Does freeman think the only issue is needing a coach to coach better allowing us to execute these conservative play calls vs a stacked box much better? I mean, freeman clearly knew we had a game plan vs clemson to not utilize PA at all. To have a game plan where Faison doesn't play until the second half. Our best frichan WR wasn't playing until the second half. Either freeman is responsible and knew or should have corrected.

According to II..... If its true about MF having Parker run what he wants to run, while not allowing JP to run his own shit, y'all need to quit criticizing him so much.

I remember the introductory press conference. He was unapologetically sincere, genuine and raw. You don't see that too much anymore in the profession. He's likeable and you want him to do well -- you just wish he cut his teeth somewhere else prior to being named the ND head coach.

What freeman knows is that if you run the ball well and have a good D you are almost guaranteed a win. What he doesn't realize is in 2023, teams sell out more to stop the run and there's much better athletes on the DL/LB to stop run than when he played. Sometimes you need to throw the ball to set up the run, a concept he hasn't learned.

We did not run the ball well at all vs Duke, louisville, Clemson. Games on the road where they loaded the box.

The last 7 for sure. Wimbush a running QB, then Book a QB who wouldn't throw it downfield. Then obvious the last 2 where WRs weren't that great and QB play wasn't great. Coan did well going to a quick passing game offense.

Well if all this is true, we got the wrong guy at the helm and it is what it is. He won't last long, beating up on the teams 80% of the board could coach to a win.

Agreed. But I don't believe he would attempt to impose his will over an OC with any credibility. A guy like Andy Ludwig wasn't about to come take offensive micro-management from a 1st time, defensive HC.

On Monday someone is going to ask what offensive philosophy he wants to build to and have run (that is if there's a change at OC before then).

A safe answer is one that maximizes our teams strengths. The right answer is one that is multi dimensional and can throw the ball all over the field when needed to win, but can also pound it, force teams to defend the run, play action for explosive plays, and run it when the opposition knows it to close out games.

Will lose a lot of my faith in Freeman if this is the case. I don't expect the HC to have zero input, but handcuffing an OC when you have zero offensive experience would be absolutely insane.

Who knows? I do vividly remember in the Duke highlight tape that GP asked MF what he wanted to run here (the Estime TD run). I remember IB and I believe Hit and Hussle criticized the call (as they saw that ND was playing for the field goal - and Shrader was shaky at best at that time).

I highly doubt MF is overly involved in the play calling; maybe they just defer to him in pivotal moments? Only the people in the locker room truly know.

Yeah, i would be dumbfounded if freeman is why our offense is so bad right now. I just assumed his lack of offensive knowledge is why he can't help Parker, but if it's his lack of offensive knowledge is forcing parker to be stupid, oh boy.

I agree, and this new angle to look at things makes a ton of sense. Probably why Tommy bolted, I would have too after Freeman had that meeting with me.

100% right on the duke play. So stupid with 30 seconds to set up for a near 50 yard fg to win it when you are losing, not tied.

No kidding, ask Ohio St. They were moving the ball on the last drive against Georgia in the playoffs and once they got to a 50 yarder they killed the ball, dude missed it.

Totally different circumstances.
He was down 2 scores in the 4th when he went for it on his own 35.
Bad decision then, just like it was a bad decision to play for a 50 yard FG down 1.

We had 4 more possessions to score points AFTER going for it then, and we were only down 11. Insane.

You know what odds are of completing 4th and 11? like 25%, but I assume way worse for a team averaging about 30% on 3rd down conversions of any distance.

I just want to know what exactly caused the sudden change in philosophy?

In the early portion of the season, Notre Dame was aggressive and maintained a “go,go,go” philosophy and really pushed the ball down the field — notably very late in the 2nd quarter against Navy, TSU, and NC State. What would they do with 1 minute left before halftime and receiving the ball on its own 20? They were going pedal to metal and pushing the ball 80 yards down the field.

Why did that attitude or philosophy stop? What caused it to stop? The offense, in my opinion, noticeably changed around that time, and just went uber-conservative.

my only thought is losing thomas, colzie, and having greathouse injured they didn't have all the WRs up to speed on the plays/responsibilities of all the other positions to keep running what they would want to run.

The counter to the above is we went uber conservative vs ohio state when everyone was healthy but colzie.
