I agree with you!

I guess if LSU calls him in the offseason...we should just let them have him!?!?

The D could use some TLC on their tackling and yes the scheme has changed from what Lea ran.

We are a 1 loss team and 7 games into his ND career; hard for me to complain about Freeman....

If Clark Lea became available yes.

Some of you are overreacting.

Lea's mediocre recruiting and injuries have left Freeman without much to work with.

All things considered he's done a good job so far.

Lea arguably didn't leave Lea with much to work with either, and his defenses still performed very well.
I think the team is improving, but Freeman has to improve with adjustments during games and if a formation/front isn't working he needs to cut it out. DL is one of the strengths on this team in both talent and coaching. If 3 man fronts aren't getting the job done against an opponent, quit using them.

So is this just about Hamilton not being out there? Defense looks lost at times. Poor tackling. Not impressed with Freeman.

Promote Elston, flip Marcus to special teams and recruiting.

I'm over here having VanGorder flashbacks. This is the guy everyone was hyped for?

It’s Freeman’s first season. It hasn’t been perfect, but he deserves time to prove himself. He’s lost key players on defense, and he’s new to consistently playing teams that actually have talent and good offenses. So far at ND, he has done some great things, and there are other areas he clearly needs to improve, but this dude is not BVG. There are several games that the defense has out-and-out won for us.

The damn tackling needs to be fixed ASAP though.

It is starting to seem a bit like that with dudes not knowing what they are doing.

I think the players were poorly prepared for this game, and that falls on Freeman. But I think he will learn from this. Maybe I’m wishful thinking, but I want to see his growth. He has a lot of things going for him as a coach, but I think he is quickly learning that ND is a different beast.

But how does the wait until he gets a roster full of his guys work when he is going to most likely be here only one more year

Apparently you didn't read this board tonight counselor. Marcus Freeman is obviously going to be fired very soon.

(And I'm sure IE is the kindest site you'll find)

Kelly's post- game shed some light on this:
  • Chalked up some of it to UNC having two weeks to prepare. Counter had been their #1 play all season, but they didn't run it once tonight. So the time we spent preparing for it was wasted.
  • The decision not to spy Howell was Kelly's. Said in his entire career, he's never lost a game due to the QB draw. They opted to take other stuff away.
  • Like their RPO. We apparently killed that pretty effectively. They only tried it once and that resulted in Brown's interception.

I really hate the "Just wait till he gets his own guys" argument that people use. Good coaches game plan to win with what they have, there's no waiting till next year. The guys that have to wait often don't pan out. Lea and Elko didn't need to wait years to get things implemented, they taught sound tackling, good angles, fundamentals. We're not seeing that right now. We weren't giving up 550+ yards to UNC. I wouldn't say there's a lack of talent on this team, so it has to be the coaching.

And also my point really is that unless we plan on starting a half dozen freshman next year. How is he gonna coach his guys when many believe he is more likely to be a head coach anywhere in 2024 then still our defensive coordinator.

Why do you want Freeman to coach like Lea? If the '72 Dolphins would've tried to play Buddy Ryan's 46 with their hair on fire every play... they wouldn't have been the undefeated SB Champs.

As guys learn how to play at Freeman speed and he gets guys who fit his scheme, they will produce the results Freeman is looking for. It's not easy going from a bend don't break D to disruptive, chaos D... especially without Sauce Gardner shutting down half of the field.

It's an 11-1 rebuilding season anyways. Enjoy the rebuild, they don't usually come with 11 wins.

Then again...if our defense keeps putting up this lack of production he probably won't be HCing anywhere in 2024. He probably won't be here either though

Poor tackling isn't a scheme thing though. Wide open receivers, yeah...those are missed assignments and possibly scheme problems. There's no excuse for bad fundamentals though.

Lets be honest though, if Freeman pans out he's probably gone for another job in a few years anyway. He won't really get to reap the benefit of getting his guys on the field.

Again for like the tenth time tackling is a basic skill. If he can't improve tackling in 8 games than i don't have much faith in his scheme.

And can i add for the fourth time. I don’t expect him to start 6 true freshman next year. And no one expects him to be dc in 2024 so what are we arguing about here

What about Howell running over the top of Jayson Ademilola. I mean does Howell have some secret Kyren WIlliams slipperiness?

Uh, I can't imagine what Freeman has shown so far that warrants the talk of him moving on in a year.

Freeman isn't leaving for a small gig and hasn't done enough to warrant a big HC gig.
