A mission isn't strictly limited to the standard characterization of spending a year or two away from home -- and in Te'o's case, away from football.

"It's always your choice," he said. "You have a choice to do what you want to do. But there's always consequences to every choice you make, whether it be good or bad. So whatever choice I make, there are going to be consequences. I have to be aware of what those consequences are and make sure it's in line with what the Lord wants."

Brudda, I think the Lord wants you to knock the living $hit out of every ball carrier you see on Saturdays then ask for forgivness on Sunday.

Of all the plays he was in, the one i was most impressed with was when he came in clean on a blitz, missed the tackle and was able to recover to get the tackle 6-7 yardsdownfield.

You were most impressed by a play where he allowed a runner to pick up 6 or 7 yards, when he should have had him at the line of scrimmage, or even behind it?

"I was really impressed, when Harrison Smith got burned for 6, but then tackled the guy just after he crossed the goal line." :jerkit:

Was reffering to the guys closing speed and athletic ability. I guess you can say the same about the guys who loved seeing Te'o lay out Nevadas running back even though the throw was too low for him to catch in the first place. i could have been a smart ass and said, "yeah and our guy could have had a great pick if he was in bounds". Maybe if you actually read the sentence as opposed to just looking at words on the screen

I knew what you meant, jason. I'm happy with the game, obviously. But I just can't get past the fact that Nevada's inside running game was so successful. Any BCS-worthy team that we play will exploit that, over and over and over, until we get it fixed. I liked the big hits that Teo laid on guys, too. But he isn't ready to be a starter yet, or he would be. I am more convinced of that than ever, now. The truth is that he may never pick up whatever part of his game it is that is keeping him from starting now. I'm tired of reading about potential. I want to read about (and see) some actual dominance on the field. Sorry if I seemed kind of prickish, but I am just ready to see how great the players on the field ARE, and not how great they MIGHT BE, next year, or the year after, etc.

I know what you are trying to say, but it was his first play, in the first game, in his freshman season!!! Talk about expectations!

I'm sure the D was more that willing to give up some big runs up the middle to contain Kaepernick. Probably was the game plan. D's do game plan for different offenses you know. Keep in mind against Navy, our gameplan is for the safeties to make the majority of the tackles. I was much more worried by our D continually taking awful angles at Kaepernick than our giving up big runs up the middle.

Actually, I don't think that is true. I believe linebackers are supposed to make most of the tackles against the option. That ND safties made a lot of tackles, does not mean that was the gameplan. The safties always made most of the tackles. And, T.Smith had 10 tackles last year against navy when he filled in for B.Smith.

The way I remember it, Te'o was blocked at the line of scrimmage.

That's the point..........great defenses don't "give up" anything, to stop something else, against Mid Major teams. I keep hearing, on here, about how GREAT all of the defensive players are......how every guy is a stud. Well, folks.........this is proof. It ain't so. We have a good defense, but nothing great. Maybe they can grow and come together as a unit, and be a very good defense by the end of the year. Or maybe this is what we get. If this is what we get, then we are definitely NOT "back". We might be on our way, but we ain't there yet (IF this is the best our defense is going to get).

Let's all hope that the guys continue to improve, and come together to fight as a unit.

No one should be saying our defense is great. We have a very young defense and are thin at D-line. Our Offense is BCS caliber but our defense is still a year away. We have lots of talent but withe exception of our secondary it is mostly raw talent. We have to gameplan in order to stop teams at this point but hopefully our youth can grow and be a better unit by the end of the year. The team is likely not gonna shut down every team but the hope is that our offense can score enough to make the opponent one dimensional and play to our strengths

He didn't miss the tackle! He rushed on the outside, Kap took it inside and Teo saw this and ran him down from behind from 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage, he caught him really quick for being 11 yards away.

Manti is going to be an allstar LB. You can just see his raw football talent. That play where he put that lick on the RB was a prime example. If you watch the play you'll see that Manti starts to drop back in coverage, then reads the play perfectly, times the hit perfectly and drills the bastard into the dirt.

Not bad for a freshman LB in game1 of his career.

If the Defense is a year away then ND is in trouble, since most of the Oline graduates this year.

2 out of 5 is not most of our o-line. The o line should be ok except that we will have to replace the most important position at o-line which is LT. It will be the 4th year in a row where ND has had to address the position

Anyone have any insight on how much we should see him play tomorrow? Also, would anyone be interested if I made a shirt that said "The T'eo Tribe"

Yes, he SHOULD play a whole damn lot! However, according to Charlie, Te'o won't start but he will see the field a lot more. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why...

Of all the plays he was in, the one i was most impressed with was when he came in clean on a blitz, missed the tackle and was able to recover to get the tackle 6-7 yardsdownfield.

I watched the game again. The announcer called it that way but that's not how it played out.

Te'o blitzed in an outside lane. Sergio looped around on the inside of the OL picking up Te'o on a beeline to Kaepernick. Kaepernick stepped up and broke up the middle for the LOS. This changed Brown's angle of attack. Sergio reached inside with his left arm but could not bring down the 6'6" QB. Sergio had no chance of getting his body in front of Kapernick with the bodies he had to weave through.

Kaepernick crossed the LOS then cut to his left to avoid defenders. Meanwhile Te'o had spun off his man and caught Kaepernick from behind. Quick decision and great pursuit. The announcer stated Te'o missed the tackle but it was Brown.
