I came back from Pat's Cheesesteaks in South Philly about 45 mins ago. I usually go to Jim's but my buddy was adamant that we go to Pat's so I concurred because I hadnt been there in a while. It was glorious. Geno's is right across the street but I think they are weak-its all personal preference and there are more than those 2 to get a good cheese steak . Pat's line is typically longer and those who dont feel like waiting usually hop in Geno's line.

Anyway, the cheesesteak was glorious- Extra Whiz without.

So in my area, Philly is kown for Cheesesteaks (Pat's, Jim's, Geno's etc), Hot Roast Pork (John's), and Pretzels (Philly Soft Pretzel Factory and the corner guys) and even Camden and surrounding towns are known for something-- Panzarotti's.

What foods in your cities/area are they best known for? That way if any of us ever roll through your area, we know where to stop...

Oregon brews some of the best beer in the country

The wine is pretty delicious

The quality and freshness of the salmon is pretty amazing.

Pub culture is pretty legit. Lots of beer to choose from and tasty snacks to wash them down.

Ramps. The West Virginia Rampfests are legend. The stinking onion permeates skin, clothes, and the air for counties around. The government's P-4 containment personnel from Fort Detrick, MD have visited in hopes of developing new weaponry. West Virginia continues to lead the nation in outward migration. Wild ... and wonderful. [no wonder WVUs receivers continue to get separation so easily].

Don't think we are known for it but if you are every in columbia city, in go to Big Gs and ask for a "heart attack on a plate"! It is a massive omelet packed with all the meats and veggies then completely covered (and I mean covered!) In the same gravy as bisquits and gravy. Served with toast on a plate that is about 8"x16" and there isn't a empty spot on it!

About a decade ago there was a truck stop type breakfast etc joint which was looking for a gimmick. The owner decided to advertise a four-egg omelet. For a brief while this ploy seemed to be successful. Then there was a scare about egg safety and the report said that perhaps one out of four eggs had salmonella. The truck-stop immediately got a visit from a lower-level employee of the FDA saying that he would have to drop the four-egg omelet from the menu.

The owner protested that he didn't get his eggs from the area cited in the study. The FDA agent said that did not make any difference as currently eggs were in danger. The owner asked if he could continue to make his three egg omelets. The employee said that was OK. Four eggs was the danger area.

The owner then said: what if I throw away one out of every four eggs and make the omelets out of the others. The FDA employee said that it wasn't clear, but that might be alright.

It is rumored that this person studied statistics under Tom-at-Easton.

I was born and raised in Curwensville, Pennsylvania...
Where the individually wrapped cheese slice was invented!

The only notable restaurant in our area is in the next town down river, Clearfield, Pennsylvania...home of Denny's Beer Barrel Pub...Denny's is home to the world's largest commercially available hamburger. It's been featured on the Food Network and the Travel Channel numerous times...they serve alot more than burgers. Their hot wings are pretty well known, as is their American Irish food menu.
The food honestly isn't fantastic though haha.
The world record thing seems to be the main attraction.
Don't get me wrong it's a tasty meal, but I've had better.

I'm from the Finger Lakes region in New York and there are a ton of wineries around here. All sorts of tours that you can take and you can easily burn a whole day. It's a really beautiful area and it makes for a very relazing day. If anyones in the area you should check it out

Since the food culture in Tallahassee is terrible, I'll talk about Duluth, Minnesota.

My favorite pizza ever is Sammy's Pizza. It's Chicago thin crust in squares.

I love Kendall's smoked fish shop in Knife River. According to Andrew Zimmern of bizzare foods, it is the best smoked fish in the world. My best friend owns the shop. Everyone should watch that episode (the Minnesota episode of Bizzare Food).

I live in Georgia which seems to be the fried food capital of the universe. Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Okra, Fried Catfish, Fried Chicken. If you don't like it Fried, Atlanta is also a great city to get some pulled pork BBQ, BBQ ribs, and Chili. Healthy living and southern food dont seem to work together.

Well here in Michigan, we have a little place out on the lake called "Lindy's" they make the BEST pizza EVER.

In South Bend I love La Esperanza, it is authentic mexican food and they have the most AWESOME pineapple margaritas. Mexican is my favorite kind of food. When I would go to Huntsville I loved going to Casablanca's for mexican food.

OK ACamp. You never cease to amaze me with your oddness. As I have mentioned many time before, I am a gypsy, lived all over the country. Del Taco fake food does not even come close to Taco Bell fake food. But they be what they be.

Best Carne Asada, best Mexican food, and best prices in the country, best Barbecue, best brisket, you know it ACamp, is in El Paso Texas. State Line. Cattleman's. American Land and Cattle. Even the food network had El Paso's Cattleman's in it's top 10 steakhouses in the country. I bought a Chile Relleno plate here in Cali for 14 bucks. I bought a Mexican plate full combo in El Paso Texas when I was last there about 4 years ago at a corner restaurant for 3.99. Three times the food for less than one third the price, and better tasting. I think the price has gone up to 4.04.

So I tried Del Taco for the first time last night, and it tasted about how Taco Bell taste to me, to be honest. The other thing that I noticed though is none of the employees wore gloves. Now I don't know if that is how it is at everyone but after seeing that, kind of makes me skeptical.

Taco Bell and Del Taco are what they are, both basterdized corporate versions of Mexican food... I have found a couple truths with the two, those who grew up with Taco Bell like Taco Bell, those who grew up with both like Del Taco... (No one really grew up with JUST Del Taco so that cat. doesn't exist)... not Del Taco's fault your gypsy palette was destroyed before you experienced the truth. ;)

another plus about Del Taco you don't have to run to the nearest restroom five minutes after eating as Taco Bell tends to do to poeple...

El Paso?? lol... you forget My in laws live there and I unfortuneately have to visit that hole about two/three times a year... awful BBQ, awful Chinese (seriously can't fathom a city doing it worse), far below average Mexican (they add the "Tex" to it and screw it all up), the only places I dare eat at in El Paso anymore are the chain places like Fuddruckers, Chili's etc, which luckily they have a lot of... can't trust anything else. Though they may be on the list of worst food cities in America... I'll give them that.

P.S. Because you're dumb enough to order a 15 dollar plate of something that costs about 5 dollars all over the state doesn't make the state look bad, it makes you look bad...

;)

Chili always had spaghetti in it where I am from... I was shocked to discover that this is not the norm.

Which reminds me of your mother... OK, I'll let it go on Mother's Day. Hug your Momma for me, but I'll get back to you on this maybe tomorrow.

ACamp, your oddness continues to amaze me. Thank God you don't work with average to above average kids. El Paso and New Mexico is the LAW of Mexican food. Well, so is Mexico... The crap we get in Cali, and apparently the crap you grew up with, is expensive CRAP. Heck, I had better Mexican food in D.C. than any of the crap I find in Cali.

Neutered has never had Cali Mexican... period.

no one would call it crap if they had... and El Paso does not do New Mexican, at least not well enough to mention... so i'd say he never had either of those as well...

also, difference in price between restraunts in Texas and Cali is not much... gorcery stores is another matter, but fast food and restraunts is basically no difference... Neutered is jsut mad because he can't find anyone out here who takes him seriously enough to give him reg. prices.

:)
