Lasik Surgery

Anyone have any luck getting this done for ~$2,000? I seem to hear stories of people getting it for between $2,000 - $2,500, but I've had no such luck.

We moved 3 weeks ago, so we're getting a lot of coupons in the mail. One was advertising Lasik for $295. I figured what the hell, I know it won't actually be that price, but doesn't hurt to get a free consultation. I walked out being an "excellent candidate for Lasik", with no abnormalities or stigmatisms, and my quote was $3,457 total.

What the hell? We can't afford this at this time, but now that I really would like to get it done. Any one find any ways to get it cheaper? Hello Canada? My insurance will not cover any of this.

I got mine done just about a year ago, after years of wearing contacts, I all of a sudden was allergic to the material I guess, so I really had no choice. But yea Insurance is pretty useless on it but I found a groupon and got it done for about 16-1700 altogether. It was a great decision I love it.

I could use my HSA, but we're having our first child end of July, so I want to save it for that.

Part of the reason I'm being so cost conscious.

I got mine done just about a year ago, after years of wearing contacts, I all of a sudden was allergic to the material I guess, so I really had no choice. For both eyes? I ask because I see most offer an attractive price and it's "per eye". To be clear, the $3,400 I was quoted is for both eyes.

If so, what city or state do you live in if you don't mind me asking?

Also - how did you know which groupon was legit? I ask because there are like a dozen offering it for a stupid discount, like between $100 and $300 total. And I know that's going to turn out just like my first experience -- go in, find out it's actually not even close to the true cost.

folks in Europe usually head east for stuff like this at the fraction of the price - Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria etc. Whats the equivalent in US? Heading down to Mexico?

I've heard you can get it done in Canada for ~$1,000. That's a trip though, and you'd have to actually go back if you wanted your post-op follow up, so you don't really end up saving unless you live close by Canada.

It was total not per eye, yea the per eye thing can get you but this was total. I would pick a place with solid reviews and then look for them on groupon. I live in Chicago and got mine done here.

I think I ended up paying $3500 for mine but I went with a world renowned surgeon, I didn't think someone messing with my eyes was a good idea to skimp on. Anyways, I just applied and did the care credit thing and got 24 months no interest. It's easily the greatest thing I've ever done for myself. I've never had any issues, I could see perfect after my nap they ask you to take after surgery.

I would wait if you can't afford a well known eye surgeon with plenty of great reviews. This is your sight we're talking about! Mine cost around $3,000.

I got Lasik 8yrs ago (Bloomberg Eye Center) and it was the best decision I ever made as well. Haven't had one problem since the first day. Vision is still 20/20 and I was practically blind.

$1,000 on new furniture
$1,400 on new patio set
$500 home theater system (previous owner had wired walls so it was either do this right away or have ugly, exposed wire in 4 corners of living room)
$700 new TV
$400 in refinishing deck.

So she's basically put us on a spending limit hard core, and with a baby coming I sort of get it, but at the same time we have the money and I freaking hate putting contacts in first thing I do every day, then having to do the same at end of day. It's just no way to live.

Then I read your posts about how it's life changing and I just get sad.

Just do it and tell her it was a medical emergency. What's she going to do, return it for a refund?
