Hard game to watch because of my bias (a 'Cuse loss can't help them recruit)
According to the rule book, if the player does anything that brings attention to himself after the TD, it is considered unsportsmanlike conduct. It was actually the right call by the ref. Saluting can be considered bring attention to oneself. Blame KSU WR for that one.
I disagree bro. I thought it was a horsesh!t call. Spirit of the rule, time it happened, context, etc etc etc.
If you watched the entire game, there was a TON of celebrating by the Syracuse players. Just a few plays earlier a Syracuse player tackled the QB and brought WAY more attention to himself that a friggin salute to the crowd. Hell, the funniest play of the game came when a Syracuse DB got burned deep, but the KSU QB underthrew his receiver allowing the DB to catch him and knock the ball away. He celebrated big time...to the point that he pulled up with an injury when he stepped wrong!!! We were laughing our asses off!
Now, you tell me...how is saluting the crowd any different than what those other knuckleheads were doing ALL GAME LONG??? If the refs had been calling it by the book the entire game, then I understand. But what the KCU player did was MILD in comparison to what players all across the country do all the time (especially at USC; and wait until you see Miami tomorrow).
Pathetic call.
If anyone is watching the Music City Bowl and just saw Gerald Jones catch that TD and then celebrate, that makes what the KSU reciever did look like less than nothing.
That was a terrible call through and through.
It's a shame the refs decided the outcome of the game
The refs did not decide the outcome of this game. I just saw the highlight on ESPN. On the two point conversion the receiver was open, the QB had plenty of time and just flat out missed him. Make even a decent throw there, and the refs had nothing to do with the outcome of the game.
Disagree sir. When your talking about one chance to put the ball in the endzone, 15 yards makes a huge difference. Play calling is a lot different and it is much easier to execute. Just saying bro...
I know what you're saying, and I agree that it made it much more difficult. But none of that changes the fact that they called a play where the receiver was open, and the QB just flat out missed him on the throw. A 15 yard FG is much easier to make than a 30 yarder. But you still blame the kicker, if he misses a 30 yarder where the snap and hold were perfect, and there was no pressure.
No comparison, the point is that the refs made a lousy call, which put KU at a huge disadvantage. The ref should have not made that call.
