This thread needed to be resurrected. I had a 10" Wusthof scimitar kitchen knife that we never used, so I wanted to re-work it and make it a little more of a zombie apocalypse blade.

First I cut off the synthetic handle and fashioned a new handle out of a piece of birch I had in my yard scrap.

Then I distressed the shiny blade using muratic acid and 2000 grit sandpaper and also varnished the handle with some Danish oil.

I then wrapped the base of the handle with some leather strip I used from an old belt. I also put a 9mm shell casing as a brass insert on the heel of the handle.

The knife has zero practical uses, but I am pretty happy with my first effort on a project like this.

9" stiletto with honey horn handles. The square button took a long time to get perfect fit.

9" GC CO manual italian stiletto converted to a dual action automatic. This was my first conversion. the scales are brown horn with white streaks. The knife was rusty and had cracked plastic handles when I found it, so I thought it was a good donor knife for this type of project.

My cousin just became a master knife maker or something like that. I have several of his knives. He sells them for 400-2000 dollars each. Now I know very little about knives. But how us this even possible? What makes it better than a buck???

Just finished making this leverlock automatic. scales made from solid tip honey horn - everything else is stainless steel. One of my favorite knives!

Both, but just started getting into making complete knives...I am not a master or pro by any means. But, it is fun to go from chunks of metal to something that opens with the push of a thumb

Thats awesome. To be honest, I have probably 40+ knives and not one AO. I'm more of a hard user/ fixed blade guy. That being said, I have always wanted one and don't have anything fully custom.

Let me know if you ever start taking orders.

So, once again, I know this isn't really a knife, but the OP mentioned "blade afficianados" and a wood planer has a blade, so I thought it fit here.

This is one of the pieces I love to restore and clean up when they have fallen in to a bad condition. Many tool restoration experts hate it when you clean off the grit, grime, patina, and dirt, but I love it when a good tool is returned to some of its original glory. So if you are one of those that wants to keep a tool in its given state, then I'm sorry, but this is they way I like to do them.

That was insane. His nickname must be the hammer for all the strikes he made. That video should come with the knife. Great to see such passion and patience for such items. I’ve made guitars and surfboards from scratch but not for selling. Resin smells really good making the surfboards. Very creative guy.
