Oh man, this brings back a story... my buddy had a collection for days, knifes and swords.. he had everything from odd ball fantasy swords to Legit Claymores and Ninja and so on, all mounted on his walls.... he moved in with his now wife, got a storage shed, and couldn't afford the shed anymore... dude was too proud to ask us for help and he lost ALL OF IT. I was so mad at him when I heard... "Dude! You couldn't have given me the damn Claymore and I would have paid six months for you!"

Myself?? All I have a handful of Swiss army and one standard US Army knife I got years ago… very standard, with holster.

Perhaps this is off-topic, or perhaps not, anyway, I really like to cook. Really great cooking knives and clevers get me excited, but I don't have any photos to post, or names for that matter. If anyone knows of any, post 'em up.

Somebody scored a sick "Storage War". Wonder how much it went for?

I have a small collection of different knives and hatchets. Lots of Benchmade.

That breaks my heart... I've got a growing collection myself. Love the Swiss Army series, a must own.

I would be interested in this as well. Need to upgrade my kitchen cutlery, and while I know a quality carry knife steel I'm not sure how that translates to the kitchen.

yeah, I thought about that too... I assumed Shake wasn't interested in my cutlery, but I have two pretty boss sets, one Cut Co (Cost a small fortune) and the other was a nice wedding gift that included everything you would expect.

I own a set of CutCo too but I am wondering what is better out there. They are good, but I really don't enjoy the handle grips of the set I have.

Need. Specific. Models.

haha... i'm at work, so its hard to remember. I know for sure that I have a griptillion and the backbacker (this one is awesome and one of their cheapest models). The one I use the most is the Benchmade Salmon Filet knife. Great blade!

That backpacker looks kick ass.

I have like 4-5 grips, mini and full size. My fav is the Doug Ritter Griptillian I have with custom Kevin Wilkins scales (handles). I got it from some dude on eBay for a fraction of what it would cost to import the handles from Germany. Dude didn't know what he had.

Yeah, I really like knives.

I cook a shitload. And love doing it. A good knife really does make an enormous difference.

I don't really know names and brands either. But one thing I seem to have found is that buying knives at places like Williams-Sonoma and high end retailers is good. Could you get a similar knife for say, $50-$70, instead of the $100-$200 you'll spend there? Probably so. But I don't know enough about them to say where. Another plus on getting them from high end retailers is that they'll almost always sharpen them for free, give demos, give useful advice etc.

And a way I've found of not paying the premium price for knives is asking for them for gifts, asking for hand-me-downs from parents and grandparents, buying them used, etc. It's a good way to get a couple good ones if you don't have the scratch to spend on brand spankin' new ones. And let's be honest, regardless of income, who wants to spend hundreds (and even into thousands) of dollars on knives?

It may be worth it to set up a company on your own or do a little work for a buddy who owns a restaurant/food truck/catering service and buy cutlery and cooking ware for business purposes as a business expense.

I have a Wustoff Cutlery set. My favorite is the Santoku. Great utility blade. Very happy with them as I love to cook.

I also am at work but this is really close to what I have for a field knife:

I haven't ever looked there for knives but will have to now. Sadly, the closest store is 100 miles away.

It's not so much a want after a while... More of a NEED.

And the difference is in steel, heat treat, fit and finish etc.

There are worlds of difference in how two different blades are made, resulting in what kind of edge you can put on them, now long they hold that edge, corrosion resistance, etc.

For real.

But I'm single though. So I gots to feeds myself.

But being able to cook (well) can help land serious tail. A lot of chicks' panties will get mighty wet for dudes that can cook.

Please don't listen to Hog. Never buy from retailers. Do your due diligence and buy online, either eBay or from a dealer like knifecenter.com or bladehq.com. Most have free shipping and you'll save a ton.

Retailers are great for "trying things on", but IMO that's about it.

Spyderco makes a kitchen set I believe.

A couple episodes ago on Mountain Men, that Tom Oar dude in Montana was making a stone knife (I forget what kind of rock he ended up using). It was pretty cool. He claimed the stone knife was better for skinning animals and such. I'm not much of a hunter myself. Is this true? His end product looked pretty small-- handle and blade. Seemed hard for me to believe that at least that particular knife would be better than a store-bought steel blade.
