Happy Gilmore?

Yes.

And I guarantee you there will be a jumbotron in ND stadium at some point. Administration might not want it now, but look at how College football is evolving. New jerseys, TV contracts, etc...

You think the kids who are in college now and will one day run ND will want one? I certainly think they will.

I personally hope it's sooner than later, but it will happen, just a matter of time.

Its the 21st Century people. Who cares if grandma and grandpa yell at you for standing up and cheering for your TEAM at a FOOTBALL game. This is NOT church people. If I was a recruit and went to other schools games (FL,UGA or Oregon) and then took a visit to ND to watch a game, I would be bored out of my mind. Ive been to several ND games and yes the crowd support isnt anything compared to other schools.

Yes I know, tradition, but come on old timers, its not the 60'-80's anymore. Its a new age. Whatever can make the experience at the ND games better, I am all for it. Jumbotrons and a new field would make it that much better. Believe it or not.

Imagine NFL games without Jumbotrons and astroturf. Yeah....not the same.

i will admit, having gone to games at big name schools, the video boards serve a purpose, and, if done tastefully like at UM, they would be a huge success

As long as it is nothing like the Purdue JumboTron, I'm all for it. I was at Purdue for the ND game a couple years back and their board was so obnoxious it made me not want to go back

Go to the 12:00 minute mark of Kelly's thoughts. I think he's echoing a bit of what some of us have said all along. The stadium is just too damn quiet at times at crucial moments. People sitting on their hands and sucking he life out of the house. Pretty damning when your head coach is saying it too........

WOW! A Transformer Jesus! Does he fold up to become the "Popemobile"? I was thinking more along the lines of making it look like Touchdown Jesus was holding up the Mega Jumbotron. Either way....we should both probably mention this next time we go to confession.

I think this thread can kind of go along with the "stadium additions graphic" thread as well. I personally like the classic look and feel of ND stadium...

Believe it or not, a lot of recruits do not know the true history of ND and the stadium. ND stadium as of TODAY, is way behind the current times compared to most big time football schools. Add in the 25000+ senior citizens in the crowd....it doesnt make it that appealing.

Again, this is FOOTBALL and its the 21ST CENTURY. The last time I actually FELT the crowd was in 2001. Been to many games after that. Its actually sad to be asked to sit down by an usher. We can keep the same old tradition. But why dont we add to it and make it EXCITING.

Wonder how the players feel when they look up after a big TD, and see many of thousands of people still sitting. Yeah not good.

Im done.

I will say it again. ROCKNE WAS AN INNOVATOR.

ND should be one of the first to have these things, not the last.

I have had season tickets for 20 of my 38 years on this earth, and have been going to games since i was eight.

ND stadium borders on boring.

I doubt people love ND stadium as much for it's architecture as the aura. There is nothing particularly unique about the exterior of our stadium. I truly believe that if our stadium was expanded as in the other thread, nobody would have a problem with it. However, I have a serious problem with expanding capacity to 120,000. This is foolish. There are 8000 undergrads and there are already way too many senior citizens in the crowd. With a larger stadium, first, it would be much harder to sell out, and second, it would be even less intimidating. The SEC and Michigan/OSU stadiums are intimidating because they have 40000 students. and many young alumni. We don't. 90000 should be the capacity and other than that, I love the proposed renovation.

To expound on my previous post, I get a chill going into ND stadium seeing the statues of legends, the national championship banners, and the all-americans. I also get a chill when I see the field and Touchdown Jesus to the north. The concrete exterior has nothing to do with it. The fans, rather than the architecture, create the atmosphere. I have no problem with a jumbotron, but that's as far as I'll go. It can't have any of the stupid crap that happens on most schools' jumbotrons (kissing cam, panning around the crowd for kids, hot girls, etc.). A simple, tasteful video board similar to *gag* Michigan's. However, I am totally against any markings on the field. Whether or not we join a conference, there should never be a marking on that field.

I propse a huge green shamrock on the fifty...and gold field turf.

The emblem at the center of our basketball court looks awesome. We should do something on the field that is similar.

On the second thought, I kind of like our traditional field look.

Rumor is the USC game.

not a chance. I would assume if it got approved it would be done on an off season. Otherwise it would have to already have been in the works because setting one up and installing it takes a decent amount of time.
