-Knowles, probably

Think he is regretting that decision to turn down being Al's replacement?

I'm actually free around 2 today.

Franklin's record speaks for itself, regardless of Brian Kelly. Hard to carry water for a guy who has one conference championship and an abysmal record in games that matter. He's just lost one of the more embarrassing games anyone has ever lost.

I'll take Kelly over Franklin.
How many conference wins has Kelly gotten at LSU? How many playoff wins does Kelly have? How many times when his team couldn’t make the playoffs but got a really nice consolation prize in the form of an NY6 bowl game did Kelly’s team lift up the trophy? When Kelly’s teams made the playoffs how many times did Kelly’s team’s live to play another game? Go on, I’ll wait…other posters in this thread compared Franklin to Kelly. Franklin has way more to show for his coaching career than Kelly. It sucks that Kelly’s shortcomings in big games came coaching our boys but they’re still shortcomings.

At the end of the day Franklin has a Big Ten Championship ring, a rose bowl ring, & fiesta bowl ring along with a home playoff win. Brian Kelly has a nice watch from the citrus Bowl, a trip to a nattie where he was embarrassed (fair or not that was the narrative after that game was ND & Kelly wasn’t on Saban and Bama’s level) and a plethora of minor bowl wins while they felt great to close out the year when he was our coach don’t match up to what Franklin has achieved at State Penn.
You’re entitled to your opinion even if you’re wrong. Boxing gloves to knock yourself out (I want you to be safe about it) are available for purchase on the Dick’s sporting goods website.

So Brian Kelly isn't big enough to win at Notre Dame and LSU, which makes James Franklin somehow better because he's not able to win anything worthwhile at Penn State. I think I see now.

You get a ring for winning the Pop Tarts Bowl. I think most Penn State fans would rather win a Big Ten and or National Championship than a Fiesta Bowl ring. Maybe not. They could be entirely stupid as a collective.

Honestly don't care. He made his choice and he's going to be paid a lot of money. Sincerely hope it was all worth it. 42 points to a miserable UCLA team and one of the worst losses ever by a P4 program.

That loss by U$C to Stanford in '07 was pretty bad...I think Stanford had something like 2 wins in their last 20 games, had 3 head coaches in 4 years, and USC was coming off their dynasty run and it was at home.

They both suck ass. Although Kelly never blamed travel like Franklin did.

Wasn't a problem for them last year, was it?

Beat a team far better than a coach-less, coordinator-less, 0-4 UCLA that got wasted at home against New Mexico, right?

Nothing compares to App St and scUM in my book.

And I'm not taking sides in this little spat, but BK does have a conference championship he can always reflect back on.

Makes total sense, no?

Sometimes people just need something to argue about. We've all been there. But this thread is becoming an all-timer.

The first top-10 team to lose to a team 0-4 or worse in 40 years.

These are the games that Franklin could be counted on to win, because he can't beat anyone good.

Hey, if the nicest thing anyone can say about James Franklin is he's more successful than Brian Kelly, I think there isn't much more of a point to prove.

I think Stanford was so bad that year that there wasn’t even a point spread for that game.

SC was a 41 point favorite.

Stanford was 1-3 at the time. UCLA being 0-4 and beating a Top Ten team is where this stings Franklin the most. It hasn't happened in 40 years.

As much as I dislike BK I would take him over Franklin too.

I think BKs a better coach, but Franklin has been a better identifier / developer of talent and bc of that his best teams are probably better than BKs best ND teams on a neutral field.

Franklin figured out the DC spot is vastly more important than BK treated it first. He went from Pry/Banks to Diaz to Allen to Knowles. As soon as BK started treating the DC spot seriously they’re basically the same.

Kelly won by focusing on winning the LOS ans sprinkle in some top skill and Franklin won on skill players sprinkling in some top linemen.

Neither can get the qb right

I dunno. High draft pick players does not make a winning team. I’d pick most of the late Kelly teams to beat most of the Penn State squads head-to-head, even if Penn State had better top talent.

To be fair, JF has won a playoff game, 3 NY6 games, and didn’t get boatraced in his NY6 losses.

If forced to choose between JF and BK, I’m taking JF every time.

He’s been handed some SUPER favorable NY6 games though. We all remember them getting Memphis, an alright Washington, and Utah in those wins.

Rhule's buyout is reportedly more than Franklin's.

We're talking over $100M in buyouts between the two.

Insanity.

It's the same names over and over again.

Isn't it time Jason Candle finally get into a big chair somewhere? This dude has been at Toledo for way too long. He wins games, he's a pretty good coach. Any baggage he has isn't totally out in the public.

Fran Brown at Syracuse is getting a lot of love these days, too. Pretty early in his tenure.

It's a bind for Penn State and their fans however you look at it. You have to buyout JF and then try to find someone that's on the market.
