God bless those that answered the call on what is probably the defining cultural event of all our lives. It's a shame that even today those people are suffering from health issues due to the aftereffects of inhaling the debris from Ground Zero.

I, like others, experienced it through the innocence of an 8 year old boy who was confused, but it was overshadowed by the excitement of being pulled out of school early, and having classes cancelled the next day.
My mom never pulled us out of school, and never let us skip a day. But upon hearing that news that morning, all she wanted was to be with her boys.
