harrison smith also had his only contribution of the season on that play. first he was out of position and then he ends up getting in on the stick with kyle. the receiver got fkn lit up and mccarthy had some great stops today.

I've been pretty impressed with HaSmith this year but he did play pretty bad today. Good pop with McCarthy at the end of the game.

i just get really frustrated with smith. he just seems to be confused way too much. i know he has the talent but something is missing this year. it could very well be tenuta's scheme. i want to see that hit again. they really lit that kid's bush.

Harrison a bit more of a natural OLB ya think?

That kid took one hell of a good stick... First hit numbed his mind, the second shot popped the ball out. Double safety stick... it was a beautiful thing to watch... and that kid got his bell RUNG.

I think Harrison's problem is he is playing safety for the first time in a few years. Sat out freshman year, played LB last year. His tackling has been so-so. I expected more big plays out of him, and I think he'll turn the corner this season. He is one of the leading tacklers, just has no big plays so far.

I think most of expected him to step in and immediately play like Bruton. He was "light" playing OLB. His transition back to Safety hasn't been flawless.

...never want to see a kid get seriously injured....

But that hit is the type we need...that hit will be worth its weight in gold because folks coming up on the schedule will see that film, and now have something to worry about

thats the stuff that causes receivers to get alligator arms, and to hear footsteps...Keep it up boys!

I knew he was knocked out when his arms were stiff and his feet were wrapped around each other....if you have never seen that before it can be scary...I thought the victory celebration was kinda short, and went quiet kinda quick because of that player that was down

That was an incredible double hit. Dude still had his arms out in front of him laying on his back. I've seen the same thing happen with boxers when they get knocked out. They are on their back with their arms straight out and you can tell they still kind of think they are good to go, but they don't even realize they just got knocked the F out.

Harrison is adjusting but he is too good of an athlete to not be ok.

He was really light for an OLB. There was an interview with him during preseason when they asked how he will lose the weight to play safety. he said he worked his ass off to get near 220 but he would just burn it off. He played the second half of the season and the bowl just over 200

There is no good video of it, This is what happened from a crowd witness's perception. I was watching the kickoff and was focused on the kick returner. THen I heard someone talking about some guy getting jacked and then i looked found the guy who was on the ground which was McDonald. SO i didnt see the hit, but pretty soon he gets up and starts sprinting awkwardly the opposite way of the play, towards his own touchdown. He then stumbles falls over. Play is wistled dead and McDonald starts jogging over to the Washington bench, obviously has no clue where he is. Washington players all start pointing to ND's bench to get him going the right way, then they all cheer because they knocked some guy unconcious, Karma has a funny way of replaying itself huh?

whoever said "it was only a concussion" - that is serious. Any concussion is extremely serious. Symptoms can last forever and relapses can happen at any given time even a month after it happened. There was a Cubs player, Greenberg, who got hit in the head by his first MLB pitch ever and his road back was years in the making.

i truly hope they don't bring Tebow back too soon. it's not all about winning, especially when a head injury is involved. did anyone see the recent Dateline about the football player in Washington or maybe it was Oregon? high school kid came back too early from concussion and basically wheelchaired for life. a law exists now b/c of him. there was also a story about a kid who died b/c he came back too early.

Interesting article on Concussions. Charlie talked about baseline testing and McDonald and Poz not playing untilt the doctors say so.

More attention, better treatment for concussions - USATODAY.com

A spate of studies — including one commissioned by the NFL and released last week that found retired professional football players may have a higher rate than normal of Alzheimer's disease and other memory problems — have gained widespread attention in recent years. There's even a new law in Washington state, setting out conditions for how head injuries are to be dealt with in sports.

So what exactly does it take to be cleared to play after a concussion?
Bailes said the general rule is an athlete needs to be symptom-free for one week. The most common symptoms are headaches, dizziness and nausea. Victims of a concussion can also have trouble concentrating and problems with eyesight. Often the symptoms can be subtle, so it's up to the doctor to ask pointed questions and for patients to be honest about, and keenly aware of, what's going on with their bodies, Bailes said.

While a concussion victim is showing symptoms, no strenuous activity is allowed. Once the symptoms go away, Courson said, athletes at Georgia are given exertion tests to see if they remain symptom-free with a raised heart rate.
The final step toward being cleared is returning to practice without contact, which is what was planned for Tebow on Wednesday.

Even after being cleared to play, an athlete who has sustained a concussion is at greater risk for another one. That risk goes down over time. Two concussions in the span of two weeks could end a football player's season
