Do you really think he'll play or is it just Kelly coach speak? For some reason i think Kelly is just saying that to keep him engaged. I have a hard time believing he isn't playing at all now if he really is gonna be relied on against some opponents later on.

I have to agree. I expected Councell, and maybe Randolph and Deeb, at least to rotate in on short yardage downs. But those guys aren't playing at all. It is kinda hard to believe that the coaches will really have the guts to go with a guy who hasn't played all year except on special teams over the guys who have played us to 3-0.

But I could be wrong. It certainly makes sense in theory to play Councell against power rushing teams.

You could very well be right, but I wouldn't make that leap just because he's turned to acupuncture. Dry needling is a "main-stream" form of rehab treatment now and doesn't necessarily reflect the long-term prognosis of a patient. It's actually very effective at pain management in a variety of scenarios so I wouldn't assume that a turn to less traditional practices means he won't return.

I agree it's not a long term prognosis but if his leg is fully healed and he is having to manage pain or facilitate muscle health with acupuncture this leads me to believe that it is a last resort to achieve optimal health. Personal experience for me leads me to make this assumption. Many broken bone injuries that cause severe trauma to the adjoining muscles and nerves can have poorly functioning nerve/ muscles long after the broken bones have healed. This is what I think is happening based on the nature of his injury. His was severe and not one that is easy to come back from, let alone while doing his academic duties as well. I hope he does. I am just very skeptical about it happening this year.

I agree it does make since in theory bigger bodied players against bigger power teams, but I think the trust factor with playing guys who haven't been playing over rules that especially since trust in what Kelly believes he will get out of a player seems to overshadow any possible physical advantages the player may possess. But who knows come Stanford he/they may come trotting out on the field but i kinda doubt it.

I have a problem buying that trust factor since it's Councell. It's not like he hasn't seen any action. He was a regular last year.

In a different defensive scheme.

That being said, he still played, whereas the 2 guys starting ahead of him weren't playing at that position. Hell, J-Wall was on the other side of the ball. I think his injuries are what is keeping him from playing. Perhaps he hasn't fully recovered or just doesn't look the same. Can't seem to find any other reason to NOT play a 6'5 250 pound pass rusher/run stuffer.

Really sucks for Baratti. I think it was about this time last year he was tweeting about being out for 2013 with a shoulder surgery. That's gotta be frustrating.

I'd guess we'll see Grace next year. The injury didn't shred any tendons or ligaments if i remember correctly. But sounds like if he can get running etc. it'd be way towards the season's end.

This.

I'll refer to Hollywood, but wasn't his leg broken in 3 places vs ASU last year?
