Infraction Protocol

Due to recent events, I was wondering if current Irish Envy administration or representatives are under the direction of a protocol involving infractions in which a poster should be aware concerning the types of infractions involving what has been established as known and anticipated. My concern as a member involves said scenarios, in which I feel moderators may let emotions obscure objective decisions involving infractions. Though I have absolutle nil power nor function involving this process, I think others will agree that an established system in which a known referrence such as a template involving infractions would certainly provide structure to what I feel is a very subjective system as is in place now.

Many posters here are very passionate. My concern involves my perception of current protocol as a very subjective system, rather than an objectively based model. I, myself, have been negatively repped with a warning lately stating I would be banned if I ever used the infamous "F" word. I was emotional. Notre Dame fans are emotional. Shaq Evans is a great player. I had the world to expect from him. I felt betrayed. I'm a NOTRE DAME FAN! For crying out loud! I called him a "F-ing" quitter. Was it wrong to call him one? Maybe. But dad-gum-it. What would Rockne say? To his players he may have been politically correct. BUT I DOUBT IT!

I'm tired of politically correct. Let's call a spade a spade. And let's not ding each other for opinion.

And should we (all of us I hope, not just some of us) be liable to lose privilege over opinion, please administration, just let us know the context of which we will lose our privilege to post here. As I know it's a privilege to be here, and not a right. That being said (typed), I feel myself and others have earned enough respect to be aware of where we stand given our privilege, as Irish Envy is a great indulgence for my passionate Notre Dame fanhood...

Lastly, Go Irish! Beat Sparty!

I have received an answer in a PM from a moderator. The answer was simple but far from explicit enough to meet the scope for which I think the season so far has dictated. Would administration, if at all willing, please consider posting current regulations involving the infraction process when convenient for all to see?

I'm not at odds with a single moderator, Administrative Supervisor, nor Evil Over-seer. I only hope to improve this room's diligence through a common understanding of what's expected.

I also hope to attain a logical sense of infraction lengths per offense. A telltale death penalty scenario would also be nice along with criteria as such.

Ya i would just like to see what the written rules (if any) there are. I do not mean that in an offensive way i was just wondering what the standard is for posting infractions.

Currently, we do not have a clearly defined set of rules. Over the next few days, however, my staff and I will hash out what we believe to be necessary to maintaining Irish Envy as a smooth-running tight-knit community. As you are all part of this community, I will submit it to you to discuss what ought to be amended. At the end of this whole process, I hope to have a set of authoritative rules on which we can all agree.

For now, the primary rule is that members refrain from launching personal attacks toward other members or toward anyone from the larger Notre Dame family to which we all belong. Criticism is fine, impassioned criticism even. However, derogatory remarks which are aimed at the person will not be tolerated.

If I may suggest...as the Irishenvy leadership discuss this subject...please create a protocol for addressing/reporting personal attacks or as I like to call them Internet Tough Guys...I have choose to ignore some of these attacks towards me and yet see those same tough guys attack others.

best regards

There is a function on every post underneath the poster avatar called "Report Post." It's a little red triangle sign. This will alert the staff of a potential infraction-able post. You can also send a private message to any moderator that is currently online in addition to myself in order to expedite that process.

Simply hit the "Report Post" icon under the name of the person within the post you are questioning. It will be dealt with from there.

ACamp inspired me to change my picture as well. It's going to show up soon, I hope. It says it is changed in the CP, but BK is still showing up.

Johnny, I've been sick all day, and so I'm sorry I didn't get back to your PM. Since you brought it public, I will say this. This site, since JPham so kindly took over, has never been about smack talk, and has never been about disrespecting people of the University of Notre Dame. So IMO, you calling Shaq Evans an effing quitter deserved an infraction. It doesn't matter what Knute Rockne would have done...NONE OF US ARE KNUTE ROCKNE!

The thing you have to realize is...recruits and their families read this site. There have been many instances where this has come to our attention. For example, Chris Badger's older brother shared with us an impassioned letter he wrote to Chris when he accepted his offer to Notre Dame. And of course, we all know Mama Lynch is a contributing member.

When you tell a kid who transfers because he is desperately homesick and not going to see any playing time (have you noticed that the kid in front of him, Toma, hasn't sniffed a pass yet?) that he's an effing quitter (using more graphic language), you reflect poorly on Notre Dame fans everywhere. He quit, I'm sure he's ashamed and embarrassed...and yet you feel the need to pile on and call him names? What does that accomplish? He's gone...let him go.

(Incidentally, do you realize what a HUGE change in scenery/culture/etc that South Bend is from Inglewood, CA??? It's 2 completely different worlds, to say the least. He had a very hard time adjusting, and said as much. The he saw he wasn't going to play, and decided to leave. A simple bye and good luck is sufficient and classy enough, I would think.)

You think Mama Lynch likes to read about how quickly ND fans turn on their own once they leave? You think parents of recruits like to read that? Yeah, it's life and it happens all over, but it doesn't mean we have to be like that. Being emotional isn't an excuse for acting like an ass to 19 year-old kids. Sorry.

Having said that, I've never had a problem with you as a poster, and I doubt I ever will. But in this case, we completely disagree; I firmly believe that you were in the wrong.

If you guys like to talk s*** and degrade anything and everything that isn't perfect about Notre Dame, then NDNation is the place for you. But here, we'd like to keep things civil as much as we can.

End soapbox rant.

I respectfully disagree. A quitter is a quitter. I took my infraction like a turd. Bottom line is that its your jobs to ding me. I don't have to like it or agree. If I receive enough, I'm a goner. Right?

So in retrospect, do your (mods) jobs with class and not like dicks and we're good.

Tact- A manner of telling someone to go to hell in such a way they look forward to the trip.

If you tell me to go to hell in a classy style, I'll take my ass whoopin'.

Fair?

If you exaccerbate a situation, then you (all mods) are no better than I for being a class-less loser.

Savvy?

BTW, is an infraction a negative rep? What is an infraction? Can someone clarify that for me? All I ever received was a negative rep from a mod. (With a less than Notre Dame approach.)

So... does that mean you won't be applying for a position?

I like NDinLA, BGIF... my friendships with You, Steve and HCTI are fairly known... and I like Johnnykillz too...

but you talk about a thankless job Johnny... I know you got into it with a mod but damn man... there is no site without their volunteer work... I'd cut some slack...

Wow. Way to kill my chance for a straight answer ACamp.

Thankless or not, I'm demanding the same class or level of respect that posters are asked to show in return. Thankless or not, bottom line is that anyone with a backbone will stand up for themselves when being disciplined minus tact. Now throw emotion in the equation as a coefficient and sky is the limit.

Feel me? Whoah. Not there; play lower.

Do let it be known I love all of you guys (mods) and the jobs you do, but I lost my best Irish Envy friend. I'm loyal as all get out. I want to make sure he wasn't hung in vain. He may have earned his penalty, but I'm trying to prevent another good poster and member to be pushed to the edge of Irish Envy suicide. Remember that.
