Uh, he came to the U.S. at age 8 and although living here illegally as a B-2 visa overstay, he wasn't born a criminal illegal in Nigeria. He was shielded from deportation by the Biden administration which granted him “deferred action” status in 2022, followed by the Trump administration granting it to him again in October 2025, which is set to expire two years from then (Oct 2027).

He had additionally applied for employment authorization based on deferred action, which remains pending. The NYT article doesn't even mention him being an immigrant and it sounds like a typical nightclub fight among drunk young men that ended in tragedy. So I don't see your point in calling out his technical visa overstay status. It could have been any drunk young man in the ruckus who lost control and committed an act of violence which now needs to be punished.

I'm sure it'll work out just fine for Canada, just like it has for France, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, and so on. What could go wrong?

The almost complete lack of rate change even after 10 years is just shameful. This is a group of people who are, in general, making no net contribution to society. In fact, it appears they're a net drain. So much for assimilation, building a better life, contributing to society, or anything else positive. What exactly, other than contributing to getting MN more House seats, are they contributing or making better in Minnesota? Do their neighbors enjoy all the gang problems, theft, having to support them, what?
