Beautiful words spoken by a legend. What country on earth would take tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of Americans who needed all the services (subsidized by taxpayer dollars) I listed above? Did I miss a quote where Reagan said America is in debt to all the world's poor? Did he say our nation's immigration laws shouldn't be enforced?

And not a word of it penetrates your fear of an "other".
Did he say our nation's immigration laws shouldn't be enforced?
You want before or after he provided amnesty?

Also, we are enforcing our immigration laws. Do you not understand the difference between someone that requests asylum and someone that sneaks across the border?

I know a country that would gladly welcome 73,000 Americans that needed all those services 2022 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration - Canada.ca

We're projecting to admit 77K in refugees alone in 2023. I think our leadership would bend over backwards to add any American to our population. Literally the perfect immigrant candidate.

Man, don't bring up refugees. There are already plenty that cannot or will not differentiate between asylum seekers and people that just want to live here. Throwing refugees into it is just going to confuse things more.

I have a couple clients that are as Canadian Conservative as you can imagine that are begging for more immigrants so they can staff there expanded offices. Literally any level of education is needed and wanted. I don't even think it's a political issue, people see a different skin colour or accent and instantly hate them.

I would say "other" rather than a different skin color* or accent, but your overall point is valid.

My conservative uncle was a local farmer in Kansas and he used to talk about how the migrant workers were the only ones worth a damn and the guys that the DoL made him hire were very hit or miss.

C'mon Toronto, that's a misrepresentation of attitudes and what's happening. Seems that every time the issue comes up, those of you on the left start talking about how Conservatives hate immigrants. Unfortunately, you leave out an important word: ILLEGAL. We're all aware that immigration was vital to our country, that we're all descended from immigrants, and we're fine with allowing a reasonable level of LEGAL immigration, plus allowing those legitimately seeking asylum. Nobody is against that. The issue is the millions who've flooded across the border illegally in flagrant disregard for our laws, and often caused major financial, logistical, medical, infrastructure, social, and cultural problems for border towns and states, and those being coached on how to apply for asylum when they don't actually qualify.

Lumping that sort of illegal immigration in with legal immigration is disingenuous, and attempting to portray it as a hating people of different skin color is very inaccurate. It's the difference between 4 people being invited to your house for dinner and 50 people invading your house against your will.

I was purely speaking about legal immigration and the point Leppy made about no country would be willing to accept 77K Americans. The point he made was that no country would accept all those people, and I don't think that's accurate because an American would be have an incredibly easy time acclimatizing to life up here and we would love to have as many as we can get. Literally just hired two Americans to come work up here and they were incredible candidates.

I'm not sure any country has an illegal immigration policy that promotes a mass border crossing. I think that some people (not you) look at people of different skin colour that are immigrants assume those people are either there illegally or not worthy of being a citizen. Those people lessen the value of those that want to strengthen legal border procedures because they usually tag along some racist tropes when people have legitimate security etc. concerns.

Most conservatives respect legal immigrants. I know I do.

They come here with nothing and contribute and build.

How, exactly, do you think we fed ourselves decades ago before millions of illegal aliens flooded our borders over the past few decades? I'll explain to you. Migrant workers with work visas came here, did the work, made more money in a few months than they could make in a year back home, then went home. Next season, they did it all again. Amazingly, we somehow managed to get all the crops planted and harvested, all the food processed, and all the construction work done without several million people breaking all our immigration laws and coming here illegally and staying.

Asylum seeker = legal immigrant.

This is understood right?
I'm assuming it's safe to say that the 1.2 million known "gotaways" in the first 12 months of Biden's Presidency weren't asylum seekers. I'm assuming that the 98 people on the terror watch list that were apprehended in FY22 weren't asylum seekers.

There needs to be a plan that is agreed upon by both the Democrats and Republicans to decide what level of legal immigration we want. Regardless of what level that is, the border has to be secured.

I'm asked because it's an important distinction.

I refuse to lump asylum seekers in with people that cross the border illegally or overstay their visa. It frames the entire conversation under a false pretense, enabling some to pretend the people being shipped to sanctuary states/cities are breaking the law.

They are not illegal immigrants. They are seeking asylum. Illegal immigrants get sent back, asylum seekers do not. This distinction will continue to matter.

You guys continue to use the term "immigrant" and fail to distinguish between legal and illegal lmaaooooooooo. And that has absolutely nothing to do with the federal government enforcing the laws on our books.

I disagree with your premise, but I'll play along if you can. Assuming your premise is 100% accurate, there's no justification for allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into the country every year and it's economically ubsustainable.

Then you should do some homework on what qualifies as seeking asylum. Hint: being poor isn't one of them.

And...not all illegals are sent back. Thousands sneak past our border on a daily basis.

Lol, why? It's not my job to determine qualification.

They all go through an interview with someone from DHS. At that time, a determination is made about whether or not their asylum request gets a court date.

Well no shit. I'm not talking about people that don't get caught.

Because you're painting a picture that everyone at our border is seeking asylum and that isn't accurate. And a quick google search will tell you what the qualifications are for asylum.

The line to get an interview and court hearing would stretch from El Paso to Cape Horn.

The ones that are being shipped to sanctuary cities are seeking asylum. The ones that get released with a court date are seeking asylum. I'm trying to make sure they are excluded from discussions about illegal immigration. Primarily, because they are not in the country illegally.

So regardless of their citizenship status we need hundreds of thousands of migrants or the country is gonna starve? Nah, not buying that one.

Let's assume one male worker is illegal and gets paid $20/ hour. He's contributing but he's off the books. What you're leaving out is his family he brought with him. In most cases, family healthcare will be subsidized as well as education for the children. This is not sustainable long term for the country.

And before I get the racist label, it doesn't matter if the guy is from Guatemala or the Netherlands. Math is 100% color blind.

He seems completely unaware that we fed ourselves just fine before millions of illegals flooded our country. I wonder how he thinks the rest of the world feeds itself without millions of illegal farm workers?

What don’t you understand? They still pay taxes on everything they buy. I’m not leaving out anything. Haha. The women AND men work.

Show me it’s unsustainable. Undocumented workers are 3 fucking percent at most of the country’s total population. 😂. How many white peoples in this country are on welfare and subsidized healthcare?

This is going to sound incredibly dumb - when you go to the doctor, what type of identification do you have to give them? I'm assuming for a subsidized program you have to register with an agency to qualify? If it's a free clinic, I'm guessing they have a check in system with a database to track your info so that if you come back they have your file on hand. This all sounds prohibitive to illegal immigrants.

I took a quick look at California's process to apply for a subsidized healthcare insurance plan, they required two forms of ID. Proof of income and proof of residency. Either option would require the person to have paid a form of tax (ie paying for the very service they are trying to use).

If the family is going through with applying for the subsidized health care, then they would also be paying into the taxes for education.

Obviously the poorest will receive the most direct benefits when it comes to subsidized healthcare/education, but for the country as a whole it is extremely beneficial to have a healthy/educated society. The funding sustainability might be more of a revisiting of tax rates.

Taking time away from searching the web for war porn?

See the below examples, none of the immigrants mentioned below are "illegal"

This should happen with everyone of the released immigrants. Drop them in Schumers neighborhood.

LOL at DC calling for the National Guard over 4,000 illegal immigrants at their doorstep. What are these cities closer to the southern border supposed to do?

GOLD. Democrats won’t understand their failure until it is in their face.

You seem pretty upset about all the rich white liberals who tossed 50 illegal immigrants from the vineyard to another part of the state and no longer their problem. Very virtuous of you.
