- Defensive End: 1964-1966.
- Three year starter (keep in mind that, at the time Page played, Notre Dame did not allow freshmen to play varsity athletics).
- Consensus All-American, 1966.
- One of the anchors of a defense (1966 National Championship team) that gave up only 38 points all season(10 games). Played in the famous 10-10 tie game with Michigan State.
- College Football HOF inductee, 1993

- Selected in the first round (15th overall)in the 1967 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings.
- Played for the Vikings (1967-1978) and Bears (1978-1981).
- 9x Pro Bowler, 1969-1977
- member of the famed "Purple People Eaters"
- NFL MVP, 1971
- NFL Hall of Fame, 1988

- Graduated from University of Minnesota Law School, 1978 (in the midst of his NFL career)
- Page worked for a law firm in the offseason, from 1979 to 1984
- Appointed as Special Assistant Attorney General in Minnesota in 1985, and soon thereafter was promoted to Assistant Attorney General.
- Elected to Minnesota Supreme Court in 1992, 1998(highest vote getter in state history), 2004, and 2010. Reached mandatory retirement age in August of 2015.

- Founded the Page Educational Foundation, 1988. The PEF provides financial and mentoring assistance to students of color, in exchange for those students' commitment to further volunteer service in the community.
- Page and his daughter have written two children's books; one in 2013 and one in 2014. The proceeds of these books go to the PEF.

You seem to be voting no a lot. Why?

Alan Page one I actually screwed up. Manti one I voted lated and figured its probably like 99% so why not. Both obviously deserve to be in the ND football hall of fame.

Page is one of the best to ever come out of the university. That's true whether you consider only his football career or only his legal career. He's so boss that this vote is a waste of time.

Irish#1 gives his approval.

If you're considering everything (career, life contributions, etc.) Page is probably the #1 overall.

In terms of our football-playing alumni, I can't think of someone better off the top of my head.

JTLA: As near as I can tell, you have voted NO in every single one of these player polls. Are you making a symbolic gesture about the silliness of IE trying to determine who is HOF or ND Man worthy? Or are you just a ****?

don't see the point having polls for folks like Alan Page really. It's a foregone conclusion and there isn't much to debate..

But you don't think it provides some context for the rest of the discussions? For those people who became fans about the time that Brady Quinn made his first start (you know, the ones who don't know who Terry Hanratty was?), don't you think it is a good discussion to have, to let them know just how much the guys who built the ND traditions have accomplished? For Christ's sake, Tyler Eifert has been away from ND for 3 years, and people already have noimated him. No offense to Tyler, but he's done nothing to compare with what guys like Page, Duerson, Bleier, et. al, have accomplished. Plus, the guy has to be on a ballot, in order for him to be elected.

where does it end (begin) though? Angelo Bertelli not a Notre Dame man then?

Why not come up with an "omnibus" list of all the guys who we all stipulate are in, ie., a list that includes, essentially, every ND football player who is in the College Football Hall of Fame. If we get more than an objection or two regarding a specific guy on the omnibus list, you can set up a poll for him. That leaves this process -- serious or not, it's not uninteresting -- for the ones that are more debatable. It would at least clear out the underbrush of the Tim Browns, Angelo Bertellis, Johnny Lujacks, Knute Rocknes, etc.

I completely agree with this. I learned a lot about Alan Page who, I'll admit, I knew very little about. I look forward to learning more about all the legends of ND.

It begins with someone nominating a player. Hopefully the nominator does their due diligence and researches the nominee's credentials. It ends with people voting on them. I'm not saying that everyone has to measure up to Alan Page. I'm saying that Alan Page provides context to what kind of exceptional people I am looking to vote for. And if it informs people about the history and tradition of Notre Dame, then all the better?
