Wasn't this game one of the only times a team went up in the rankings after a loss?

IIRC, we went up after this game, and the OT loss to Nebraska.

I honestly don't know how an ND fan could say that is one of their favorite games. I almost punched my roommate in the face after he started laughing when Leinart scored. One of the worst feelings after a game I have ever had.

I don't know if this is my favorite game, but the fact that it's been removed from SC's record, and we were the better team that day in all honesty, I enjoyed the game. It's not my favorite though. The stadium was so loud, and there was so much energy it was wild. When the seconds hit "0" the first time, I thought I had witnessed one of the greatest games ever played. It should have remained that way, because honestly no ref has the authority to decide when to no longer enforce a rule, especially during a live game. If it's in the rule book, it should still be enforced! We were the better team, and we got robbed. Brady didn't need Darius Walker to punch his TD in to the endzone, he got in on his own. Leinart got stuffed. Such a crock.

I think my favorite game was that '08 game against Michigan when it was raining cats and dogs, water cascading down the stadium steps, and we didn't care. They couldn't hold onto the ball for crap, and it was beautiful. The highlights are still up on Youtube, I watch them for a laugh from time to time.

Where did anyone mention this was one of their favorite games?

Take off your green glasses and just recognize how great a game it was. It was one of the best games in the entire history of the sport... and also probably my least favorite because we were on the wrong end of it.

It really is worth a watch.

+1

The loudest I have EVER heard ND stadium....through the TV at least. I'm sure people there could vouch also.

I would put last years Stanford game up against any game for the 'Loud crowd' award! That place was moving! The electricity and sound was breath taking!! When we stopped them and when TJ made that catch... HOLY shniikies!!

It was good, but still didn't match this USC game.

'05 game was a great one. I still get chills when I see Zibby run back that punt.

To your point, this was a fantastic back and forth clash on the grandest stage in college football. There are several things I recall from that day with one of those being unbelieveably hung over from the previous nights festivities. I tried to wake up for gameday made it to the bathroom only to call up some dinosaurs and returned to my cave with the thought of hoping to awake by noon. I made it to the living room just in time for the beloved Irish emerging from the tunnel clad in gold and green. Hangover be damned I went beserk. Adrenaline set in, a little hair of the dog, and it was GAMETIME.

Why this will never be a game I will never, ever re-watch is that it was the closest thing I felt to the empty, gut wrenching, anguish caused after '93 BC. For that alone it will never be a game I consider great.

Go Irish!! Lets put a whoopin on the SkunkBears.

Me and my cousin danced around the living room hugging like little school girls only to have the blanket yanked out from under foot....agreed with above that this loss personally is a sad...sad second to the 2011 loss to UM

I'm pretty sure the Bush Push rule is no longer in effect. Is this true?

My first post on this site was a thread I created the night following UM 2011. I didn't know how to deal.

Couldn't agree more...for days I had this pit in my stomach that I just couldn't shake, felt like I had been dumped or something. Truly heartbroken after that 2011 loss, thanks for bringing up painful memories lol

The 2005 Notre Dame vs USC was the greatest football game I've ever watched. There is a great highlight video on YouTube of it and I watch it once in a while.

My wife is an usher near the tunnel and she said she's never seen or heard the stadium as electrifying than that game. She said the entire game you couldn't hear the person next to her.
