Here Comes Hurricane Harvey!

Last year's thread opened with Hurricane Hermine.

Harvey's in the Gulf of Mexico off the middle coast of Texas. The Category 3 Hurricane Harvey covers the Mexico Basin from the Yucatan Peninsula and Campeche Bay north to the Texas-Louisana Shelf.

The National Hurricane Center's 4:00 pm advisory advises:
On the forecast track, Harvey will make landfall on the middle Texas coast tonight or early Saturday. Harvey is then likely to meander near or just inland of the middle Texas coast through the weekend.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from the
center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140
miles (220 km). A station at Aransas Pass, Texas, recently
reported a sustained wind 56 mph and a gust to 71 mph.

Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations of
15 to 30 inches and isolated maximum amounts of 40 inches over the
middle and upper Texas coast through next Wednesday
. During the same
time period Harvey is expected to produce total rain accumulations
of 5 to 15 inches in far south Texas and the Texas Hill Country over
through southwest and central Louisiana. Rainfall of this magnitude
will cause catastrophic and life-threatening flooding.

Hurricane Harvey threatens fuel prices, oil refineries | Fox Business

Two refineries in Corpus Christi have already closed, according to Reuters. Valero (VLO), whose refineries include locations in Corpus Christi and nearby Three Rivers, said Thursday it is monitoring the storm and will make decisions about refinery operations at a later time. Citgo and Koch Industries subsidiary Flint Hill Resources, which also have refineries in Corpus Christi, didn’t immediately respond to questions on their status.

Phillips 66 (PSX) said its operations in Sweeny, Texas, are experiencing no storm-related disruptions as of Thursday afternoon.

I'm also supposed to help somebody move tomorrow...I really really hope I can convince my friend not to try that.

Austin has a NWS Flash Flood Warning for the next 4 DAYS!

Good luck trying to move a mattress or box spring in heavy rains and 35 mph wind.

And the thing is that I have a separate friend willing to help with his truck. This makes no damn sense.

Harvey made landfall at 10:00 pm at San Jose Island. Cat 4, 130 mph, 938 mb/

The Weather Channel is now showing the track to go NW passing west of Victoria before turning further west to the Stockdale/Floresville area by Sunday morning with 60 mph winds.

Then it turns SE and goes back toward Corpus, Monday.

Somewhere around the Lake Corpus Cristi/Mathis area it swings East in a long arc arriving around Port LaVaca around Tuesday evening with 45 mph winds.

By Wednesday evening Harvey's around I-10 west of Houston somewhere between Sealy and Katy. It then continues on NNW with 40 mph winds.

Holding it down in Houston right now.

Where are you?

I used to live in Kingwood and the 1960 area. Our office/factory was by the Hardy Toll Road. It's dead flat there. The ditches by us used to fill quickly. In the 80's there was a standard drill in the office that when flooding was forecast, all desks, cabinets, etc, that weren't already above flood stage were put on stilts that where stored out in the factory.

We used to joke that the overpass over the Toll Road was our high ground. We could get up it but there was no place to go. Meanwhile any cars in the parking lot would have looked like the acres of school buses parked in New Orleans during Katrina.

May you still have a roof in the morning.

According to the Weather's Channel Rain Graphic you got about 2 FEET of rain coming through Wednesday. Points north of you almost up to I-10 may get as much as 2.5 Feet.

Watch out for the gators!

Those out of power in the Corpus/Victoria area face longer than usual delays in power restoration as Harvey is going to linger in the area and not clear out until Friday or Saturday delaying power crews from starting repairs.

Weather Channel forecasting 30 inches of rain WIDESPREAD in the Houston Metro area.

Roughly Katy South to Freeport, Galveston, West toward Beaumont and North to Conroe. Big area.

Scenario One has Harvey going toward San Antonio turning South back to Corpus then the swing East ON LAND to Houston.

Scenario Two has Harvey has Harvey moving South of Houston back in the Gulf re-energizing and could parallel the coach OR head north.

Mayor Turner of Houston asking people to stay off the streets through Monday.
