Finally made it home. All in all everything is good. I did lose half of my backyard fence from off property trees falling on it. I also have about six trees (10-16" diameter) that have been uprooted but did not fall all the way over. They will have to come down though because they will hit the house if they do. Looks like I did get some water intrusion in the garage and I will have to replace some drywall and baseboards in the room adjoining the garage. But the roof was tight with no damage and no leaks. So yay!

Well gentlemen I am going to to unpack the truck and fire up the chainsaw.

Glad things are good all things considered. Looks like you fared better than a lot of others. Some of the vids and pics today were horrible coming out of NC.

Glad you faired as well as you did! I've been praying that you all have been safe, and will continue through restoration.

Thanks guys. As always with these unpredictable storms it can always be worse and the best thing to do is preserve life where it can be and not worry about the "loss of stuff". However I fared much better than some of my friends and acquaintances who have primary residences in Savannah, Beaufort, and Edisto Island. Edisto Island, HHI, and Savannah got hit very bad. Myrtle Beach and the Southern NC coast took a wallop too from flooding.

Gov Haley's plan worked very well and I give her a ton of kudos, especially after the previous hurricane debacles by Gov Hodges and his predecessors. Many people here are kind of upset at the lost money from evacuating what they thought was too early... well, Florida and NC both waited to evacuate and they both sustained the largest loss of life (obviously not on the level of Haiti which is over 1000 souls now). SC lost 3, 11 in NC, 9 in Florida, and four in GA.

Anyway, its obvious with hurricanes and storms that preparedness/coordination is the key and that evacuations work. AS we were leaving, we saw electrical contractors, cleaning crews,DOT employees, et all were all staged and prepared to go in. Our officers were livestreaming and geotagging dangerous conditions and road closures immediately. That preparedness limits the lives lost, and help get people back on their feet quickly in the event things don't go south very badly or their nothingburger came with onions instead of how it was ordered.

Glad your damage was minimal.

I agree with the Haley comment - it was probably very inconvenient to leave so early, but it worked and that's a good thing.

Good to hear Cack - our officers in NC were busy directing traffic for football games. Yeah ACC!
