He was being held on virtually every play too, and he still got to Cousins.
All the replays they showed in the 3rd and 4th he was getting molested. Only way that guy was keeping Cousins alive.

+1 on the swagger

Great point -- I hadn't even factored-in the role that the holding penalties against MSU played on the penultimate drive...most if not all of which were provoked by Lynch.

I like hearing myself talk (according to my wife, not that she's wrong...), so I'll say it again, now that my point has been substantiated: given that we needed to prove to ourselves that we weren't going to **** games away anymore, Lynch was the player of the game tonight. He (most-likely) literally made Harrison Smith an All-American, and likely was the reason behind Blanton's pick (though not to take away credit from those guys either -- they made plays when it counted.

I suppose that, deep down, one of the reasons I'm so high on Lynch is that it's a microcosm of this team and its future -- incredibly bright with tons of talent. (When Kirk Herbstreet notices our wealth of talent, you know it's true...)

We spanked MSU coming off a heartbreaking defeat while they had two cupcakes to practice against. Un-balanced, unbalanced-Guard-eligible, fake FG, hook-and-lateral my a#$. They threw the best they practiced all summer, and we still shoved it down their throats.

Based on OSU's flacid performance tonight, I reckon that, save Wisconsin, this is the best the Big 1G has to offer and we handled them like a small toy -- we ran it down a power-running team's throat, and all from the spread!

This is, by far, the best 1-2 football team in modern BCS history (yes, I'll put them up against last year's V Tech any day).

Coming into this game we were last in TO's in the FBS, and lost by a missed FG and a hail mary with 2 seconds left. So, can you possibly imagine how we could destroy teams if we could just be even on turnovers?

I don't even want to think about what would happen if we actually won the turnover battle, but if such happened I, for one, would welcome our new Catholic overlords.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but Lous Nix was triple teamed when Aaron got that sack.

Foreshadowing?

I think yes.

Lynch had 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 6 QB hurries. No ND player had more than 5 QB hurries last season, and Aaron did it in a single game.

And Aaron did it in less than a full game. He didn't start.

The best part? USC's OL is a sieve. I can't wait for Lynch introduce himself to Barkley. Repeatedly.

The best part is USC and SU are down the road giving the freshman and Rees time for "maturation" to use Kelly's word.

Don't forget all the holding calls that were called in the 3rd and 4th... Those were all on the olineman trying to stop Lynch.

He was either being held or in the back field every play.

Lynch really is a beast. I was look wow who is that, then I saw the number. Cousins is still looking for that number.

Good call on the 1-2 comparison with VT last year. Limit turnovers and it is BCS time.

The only downside I noticed is that our defense doesn't play well when the opponents offense goes into a speed-up mode, both against Michigan and Michigan State.
Our defensive set on Blanton's interception looked like a Chinese fire drill, and we were often unprepared when the offense set rapidly. Cousins must have had a migraine trying to read that defense. I suppose this might be due to trying to get the freshmen in the right set. It also cost us a penalty for 12 men on the field once.
If I were an offensive coordinator for our opponents, I would run a hurry-up, no-huddle offense, especially if Lynch isn't in the game.
I hope the coaches can get this fixed.

Lynch and tuitt didn't even play last week because of the defensive packages that they were running. I honestly think there's a wayyyy different outcome if lynch and tuitt played last week

Over who? Kap had a pretty good game too. I doubt they will sit Ethan Johnson

i agree. I think they just get the young guys in game to get the experience for next year and so on. we have alot of depth at d-line and it's good to be able to keep them fresh.

Johnson's eligibility runs out this year. So Lynch will definitely have a clear spot providing he stays healthy and works hard.

Again, completely different schemes. The defense wasn't even the problem until the 4th. Containing a QB like Denard is COMPLETELY different than a drop-back thrower here you can just get after the QB. You have to have so much gap discipline against a guy like Denard it's not even funny. One little juke, one little misstep by Lynch, and the whole defense can breakdown. The D-Line was stout...it was the jumpballs that killed the Irish.

I got excited every time I saw the 19 on the field. I was at the game with my girlfriend and 2 or our children. My son is 10 and a MSU fan. I saw Lynch on the field early in the came, turned to my son and said just watch he's about to destroy your QB. Within 3 seconds Lynch was across the line, demolished Cousins, and he fumbled. He's a stud.

Lynch had a beastly game, but I was even more impressed with Nix. Nix just dominated the middle and played a ton of snaps.

Tuitt and Nix both required 2 blockers the entire game...

Lynch, Nix, and Tuitt. We still have 3.75 more years of this guys!
