Takes the surprise away, but then again they haven't helped much anyway. I just hope our record is good enough going into the USC game to make it a big deal. Even if ND has lost a few, beating USC would be huge next year.

That's really all I care about........beating SC. With all the hype they're getting, a win against them this year would be a successful year in my opinion.

John David Booty is on my Myspace friend list. I posted asking him about the green jerseys and reggie bu$h. My lousy made up persona has infiltrated USC.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- When Notre Dame faces USC this fall there will be no surprise, the Irish will be wearing green.

Coach Charlie Weis made the announcement Friday, saying the team would wear green jerseys to honor the 1977 team. Weis was a senior at Notre Dame when the 11th-ranked Irish wore their normal blue jerseys for warmups, then donned green for the game and defeated No. 5 USC 49-19 en route to the national championship.

Weis has said that was the game he remembered best from his college days.

Since then, the green jerseys have been met with mixed results. The Irish wore green in victories over USC in 1983 and 1985 _ although in 1985 they wore blue in the first half then switched to green for the second half.

Lou Holtz had the Irish wear green twice: in a 39-28 win over Florida in the 1992 Sugar Bowl and a 41-24 loss to Colorado in the 1995 Fiesta Bowl. The Irish also wore green in a 35-28 loss to Georgia Tech in the 1999 Gator Bowl and in a 14-7 loss to Boston College in 2002 after the Irish started the season 8-0.

The Irish wore green against USC in 2005, when Matt Leinart led the top-ranked Trojans to a 34-31 victory with a touchdown in the closing seconds. The Irish also wore green in a 41-9 victory over Army this past November.

John Heisler, Notre Dame's senior associate athletic director, said this was the first time in recent memory where the Irish announced in advance they would wear green for a game.

The Irish have used different shades of green for their uniforms. Weis said the uniforms for the Oct. 20 game against USC will be designed to replicate those worn by the '77 team.

I don't have a problem with it given that this will be the year of the 20th anniversary. But the "new" ones are going to be gross. I think ND's current greens are the best out of al of them.

If we can beat USC and win a bowl game this, then we will be doing well for replacing a lot of starters.

I think someone at ND finally realized how much the fans love the green jerseys and that they can market the hell out of them. The "special"-ness of the green jerseys is forever lost now. Could be worse I suppose...they could have developed an official black "alternate" jersey.

i bought a samardizja jersey on ebay that adidas made that is black with gold numbers, its pretty sweet, but as far as i know the team has never worn them. Still pretty cool looking though.

I never want ND to wear black jerseys. If adidas wants to make them, and then just sell them as an alternate that;s fine, but I don't think the team should ever wear them in a game, and the same goes for the gold in my opinion.

no rumors out of close sources though...only guesses based on the ebay items.....which is good IMO. I'd be pissed if they ever wore black jerseys. Don't really like the gold ones either. I prefer the navy blue jerseys with Weis Green being pulled out every so often (i.e. not every damn season)....though I loved seeing them wearing green at the Army game. Whoever it was that said they pop, was right on. In person that combo is awesome.

I wouldn't mind the Gold ones every few years to be honest, but black would def. sit wrong... oh, and ACamp knows how well the official greens 'pop' ;)

well, the specialness affect is certainly gone. and i don't really like all these varying shades of green. and i think announcing ahead of time kinda defeats the purpose. but oh well. all the more jerseys to sell. i guess in the long run, it really shouldn't matter what color jersey you're wearing if you're a good team.

Nice! I'm holding out on the 7 for a bit.

I have a green #10, a blue #5 (for Allen!), and a white #9. My son has a green #83 and my fiance has a white #7. One of the stores here had a few #7s months ago. I can't even remember who had #7 recently (besides Clasusen of course).
