Having someone in mind and then getting the job aren't the same or am I crazy.

I mean, he had Ludwig in mind.
Here's Swarbrick's staff lining up the buyout funding:

There's always 2 sides to a story, and the truth is usually somewhere inbetween.
Cool but doesn't make what I'm saying false.

If he didn't have someone in mind there would be an issue. Sampson's reporting that he has someone in mind is calling a ball round.

He has a past relationship with Hartline…
Denbrock too.

Not interested in Hartline. Probably has less experience calling plays than Parker did a year ago when Parker got the job. Hartline would have to be incredibly good in order to get this job. I'm over assistant coach all star recruiter. Football minds in the booth, especially on offense, please.

I think we put too much blame/praise on the coaches. Just a quick example- why was Andy Ludwig's offense great in 2022 and terrible in 2023? He didn't forget how to coach/gameplan/call plays- he just didn't have the players to execute

Why is X. Watts so much better than DJ Brown? It's not because O'Leary ignores Brown and only coaches up Watts. Player quality/recruiting matters a ton in college football

It's 80% about the players, 20% about the coaches

Hartline isn't at the top of my wish list but I'd be intrigued with the prospect of bringing in 5-star WRs every year

ND just hired a WR coach, though. Hartline's job goes far beyond this as OC wherever he would be. Then throw in the Notre Dame factor.

They'd definitely need to reconfigure the staff a bit. He's by no means the perfect candidate but I'd rather have him than Parker

Hartline is the new Gruden in ND message boards. It's never happening.
I don't think Hartline would be a good idea if the idea is to bring in a proven guy; however, if ever there was a time to nab a guy like Hartline, this is it. Not only is he friends with Freeman, but word is he was sold a bill of goods by Day.

To a point I'd agree, except for the fact the kids aren't calling plays.

Ray Charles could see PA was the way to go with the stacked boxes we were seeing.

Reporters were asking Freeman why they weren't calling PA. I think we all remember the excuse of PA didn't change anything to protect this guy.

Freeman gets asked about PA, Parker loses play calling, and PA ends up on the call sheet and worked quite well.

Haha fair enough. I didn’t account for gross coaching incompetence
