Just blows my mind that after what MF saw from the Parker offense this past szn that he's like "Yeah, I want more of that". The dude is going to torpedo his own HC tenure w/ this f'n joke of an OC, truly astonishing.

I want MF to be THE guy, but I'm starting to think he just can't make the tough calls on staffing decisions.
The Clemson debacle (not leaning on our best offensive player in the second half) and this comment has me shook right now.

Fast forward to Week 1, 2024 where Gerard Parker is still our OC but members of IE are in copium/in threads saying he’s only listed as OC in spirit, maybe it’s a co-OC situation, maybe he’s not the one calling plays this year, etc etc.

It’s a joke. Idk what will happen. I get MF doesn’t want to throw anyone on the bus but damn if I wouldn’t like some clarity as an alumn, donor, and fan. Maybe he’s giving it to us and we’re all just in disbelief to the point of trying to find something that’s not there (hopefully not).

If this holds true, I'm officially off the Freeman train. I was willing to give this guy some major leash given how green he was. All I needed in return was a willingness and ability to grow with each season. Bringing Parker back would suggest to me that Freeman is either unwilling or unable to identify Parker as a glaring problem. Literally any 1/2 decent OC has us in a NY6 bowl game or better this season. If Freeman refuses to correct that, I'm done with him.

FWIW Luke Fickell is one of MF's main mentors... he went into a situation at Wisconsin where the power run game is their entire identity. Yet he went out and hired Longo as his OC.

MF has got to see that...

2023 offense is 13th in ESPN's opponent-adjusted efficiency metric, for what its worth. Calling it an absolute dumbster fire would be just incorrect.

I love MF. I want him to be the guy so bad. But, people aren't always who we want them to be...sigh.

So, who are we looking at as realistic options if/when we need to move on?

Rees (if he has a somewhat successful year or two as HC first)?

Candle? Toledo to ND is a huge jump.

Elko if A&M gets bored of him by then?

It wasn't efficient at all when it mattered though

Marrion seems a bit too....gimmicky? People are claiming he's transforming football and no doubt, it looks like some of his concepts have been adopted as change-of-pace/trick plays across CFB but... by his own words, it's an offense built on up tempo, 90+ plays, rapid movement built to wear out the defense.

The problem is what this does to your own defense, whether the offense is successful or not. I'm not a football coach so someone with experience feel free to explain why this would be a great hire for ND (I realize it's highly unlikely anyway).
Agree. Many of these unique offenses don't last long as teams with good defenses figure them out.

I personally think MF is going to do something. Whether Parker no longer calls play, is no longer the OC or he hires a new OC, he'll do something.

Marcus is smart enough to know he's tying his fate to his buddy. Opening game against an Elko defense next year, he better be damn sure that Parker is worth committing his job to. All I have to say.

It's old-school option run game with modern-day spread mixed in. Malzahn was his OC when he played at Tulsa under Todd Graham. The base of the concepts come from Malzahn. Marion puts his own spin on it, and it's not just randomly done on a whim. Call it gimmicky, but that's more code for different and or unorthodox than anything else. 20 years ago the stuff Meyer and Rodriguez were doing was gimmicky and it wouldn't work. Now everyone does it.

NFL guys have been taking Marion's stuff and installing it into their playbooks, not just game plans. Lincoln Riley installed a Go Go package at Oklahoma and he was supposed to be the second coming. He was quite literally HANDED that OU head coaching job.

Marion's offense requires defenses to have to be prepared for a lot, and it makes most defenses that see it slow to react. This is a young guy who can recruit and is on the cutting edge of football offense according to a lot of football people that know warehouses full of information more than any of us here. I'll take their word for it.

We could play that “Go go, go go go” song when we score touchdowns. Marion’s offensive ranking is a lot worse than our current ranking. Why do we want him?

Bingo!

ND had multiple chances to win that Clemson game and Parker completely blew it. There was no reason for Parker to completely abandon the run game in the second half.
OSU; if you just keep running the ball on the last drive ND wins that game, time runs out.

Those two issues right there are why I hate this move. Parker has shown that he's too inept to call games when it matters most against the better opponents. No improvement throughout the szn.

I'm not 100% convinced that Parker is at ND going into 2024 AND as the OC. I see these stories taking a lot of liberties in creating their headlines. Did MF actually say (I'll admit, I have read nothing today in terms of any MF pressers or quotes other than the vague one from this AM) that he plans to keep Gerad Parker as the offensive coordinator for Notre Dame in 2024?

This is a classic case of the statistics not telling the whole story tho. This isn't a middle-of-the-pack program that would be ecstatic with a statistic like that in a vacuum. Allegedly, the goal is a national championship. Can't win one of those without being able to beat top-tier teams, which this offense proved to be borderline inept against. For that reason alone, Freeman owes it to the program to upgrade the position.

the Offensive structure and ability to put people in situations to be successful were a dumpster fire, not the results.

We just had generational talent to make up for it vs lesser opponents and absolutely dominate them

Alt, Estime, Hartman are probably the best at their position since before 2010.

Teams with some ability were able to completely focus on the point where Hartman handed the ball to estime. When they could stop that, they stopped parker because he had no answer if estime couldn't run at will.

Holy hell some of you need some time away. Who realistically thought Freeman would come out today and say anything of substance? His number one goal this week is recruiting. Nothing else. Why would he create any churn in the program right now?

By the way, since when does everything a coach say at a press conference equate truth?

To be fair to Parker our wr’s were really young or hurt, not excusing the performances against the D’s with a pulse but that was true.

All the more reason you need PA and better passing concepts to help them get open.

What is the most important thing needed to have succesful PA? A good run game, what did ND have that everyone focused on, NDs run game.

Good run game, experienced QB, WRs that need help. We should have ran a ton and had a lot of creative PAs to help the WRs out.

I think if we had Washington's wide receiver groups, Parker wouldn't be able to scheme them open. It didn't help having so many injuries in an already weak group, but I don't think they ever had a chance.
