Hoping for a dissection and reimagining of NDs O during the bye week. Needs to be improved.

BTW, who the heck are these O analysts? Initial glance is no worthwhile experience.

Listening to USC media, they're applauding their defense's performance. But I think it's mostly because ND's offense sucks. They've made four straight defenses look good

Let me ask you all this... Does this guy have any play calling / scheming skills? Was he the guy really behind Tampa's Brady-led 2021 SB win? Does he have a lot of baggage? Why is no one touching him? I'm just wondering -- Here you have a SB-winning former OC who is begging to get back to work? Now, I'm not saying he's the longer term solution - Hopefully MFMF and new AD go after a new OC or co-OC of some sort post Bowl game, but is there ND or college game precedent for a guy to come in mid season as a special Analyst to help out and then be done after the season? Could he offer any tangible help?

For a second I thought this was about Charlie Weis

OSU and Duke have good defenses at least. Louisville's is mid, USC's is awful. Averaging 4.5 yards per play against the Cardinals (Iowa is averaging 4.4 YPP on the year) and 5.1 yards per play against the Trojans (Pitt is averaging 5.1 YPP on the year) is a level of incompetence that is hard to believe.

I'll say the offense's performance against USC wasn't good, but play calling didn't really contribute to it.

I felt Parker called a pretty good game overall.

The big issue against USC was Sam Hartman.

He just did not play well AT ALL. It's not like it was last week vs. Louisville, where Parker was super predictable and kept trying to do the same thing over and over again and getting the same result. Parker was aggressive and tried to attack USC's vulnerable defense. I look to a perfect instance, the opening drive of the 2nd half. I loved what Parker was trying to do. Everyone expected ND to try and run the ball, and grind the clock out to avoid Caleb Williams from trying to play hero ball.

Instead Parker gets aggressive and schemes up passes. In particular, he schemed a play where Holden Staes was WIDE OPEN. Easy 30+ yard play right there. Well done. One problem. Hartman completely misses Staes and instead tries to fit a hard pass into a tight window to Evans for a much smaller gain. Doesn't work.

That kind of thing happened way too many times last night. Hartman hasn't played well in weeks, and this may have been his worst game. At least before, I felt Hartman was struggling and Parker wasn't doing him any favors. Last night, Parker tried to get him right and called a good game to do so, but Hartman flat out couldn't get it done. It was an unacceptable performance from a 6th year QB. He should see that play better than anybody on the field.

Last night was all on execution, particularly from QB.

The execution wasn't good enough. The play calling wasn't good enough. Both are true in this case IMO.

They have some time to make improvements if they don’t after the bye ole GP should probably be concerned.

We need this week off. Rest the guys, get every one healthier, and try to build some confidence.

Geraldine Barker sounds like the name of a lady who can bake a delicious apple pie but doesn't give her husband any hair pie and shushes little kids in church.

Agree. I played the game back last night and while it wasn't some Bill Walsh creativity, it was better than the previous two weeks. A couple of those three and outs weren't because of the play called, but the failure to execute due to a bad pass by Sam or dropped balls. There were a couple of outside runs that failed because the line failed to seal the pursuit. There's room for improvement with Parker, but this was on the players more than Parker.

You know your team is screwed when the offense takes the field and all you can think to yourself as a fan is "Hold 'em."

It's simply never a good idea hiring coordinators who coached legends.

Charlie Weis, Adam Gase, Nathaniel Hackett, Josh McDaniel...the list is long. These guys look great because they have all-timers leading their offenses -- not because of some skill they bring as coordinators.

I wouldn't come anywhere NEAR Leftwich. Not only is he not a good fit scheme-wise (very traditional pro style/West Coast offense), but there's no indication that he can be anything more than a sidekick to a legend. Never coached in college, doesn't appear to want to (he'd jump at the first NFL offer)...just no thanks.

There are very valid points on both sides. The most frustrating thing for me is how predictable Gerad is...run in middle, run in middle, throw...

I wanted to see him spread out more so there are more running lanes in the middle, which he seems to favor for whatever reason...we have some speed in the RB core and it was poorly utilized yesterday. That is one of the most frustrating things to me is how they keep running into loaded boxes...ugh

More passes on 1st down...you finally have one of the best veteran QBs in college football (and the best ND has seen in over 10 years) and you are not fully utilizing him. The 3rd down conversion rate has been horrendous as has been the play calling. Too many pass plays where its called for behind the 1st down marker and lo and behold we don't make up the yards.

I dont understand the fascination with Faison when you have 2 decent TEs on the squad either.

I think these two statements go against one another. Faison is that unpredictable, speed guy that we were all hoping Dylan Edwards (albeit different positions) would have been. Bringing him into the fold creates some sparkle to the offense.

The depth situation at WR they came into and the injuries they suffered to start the season have not helped matters at all. I want to see Thomas get back so that maybe they can open things up a little bit more.

Parker has his own faults, but the situation with the WR roster comes down to Kelly/Rees/Del coming back to bite them in the ass a bit. Greathouse, Flores and Faison have done fantastic as true freshman and James should be coming along. These dudes should absolutely shine next year after a season in the program and a spring to really refine themselves.

They ran 49 plays to USC's 74.

That's trash. That's not even the Tresselball that these goofballs want.

It's 2023. There is creative, fun, effective offense everywhere in college football. Spend the offseason taking a few visits.
