According to the South Bend NBC affiliate Gary Gray will miss the entire upcomming season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

I saw it on the ESPN ticker... wow, I don't know if that confirms it or denies it.

Its a shame, he was one of the best defensive recruits in the class. He looked like he'd at least push the guys ahead of him, with a shot to line up on special teams.

seems correct, hence the reason espn has it as a story on the bottom of the screen. Its not like he wouldve started this year any way, right?

A) It does set his learning curve back.

B) The thing that separated USC from ND in 2005 was depth. Our #1 could go toe to toe their #1 feasibly, but after that the comparisons end. Thats why they reload, whereas we rebuild when Tyrone's only good recruiting class departs. And don't think that guys play better when talented guys are breathing down their neck.

So, I guess my feelings are, he probably wouldn't have started from day one, but he'd definitely keep guys from resting on their laurels.

CW also mentioned it in his presser. I don't know how true it is, but one of the boards said that the shoulder injury was not new, that it was an old high school injury, so maybe they figured that the broken arm might cause him to redshirt this year anyway, so now is a good time to clear up all of Gray's medical issues. In any case, it is a loss to the D because I thought Gray was the best ND recruit at the AAA game, and I think he would have made a immediate positive contribution to the Defense, even in a part time role.

That stinks. I felt bad for him when I saw him on the sidelines with the arm cast during the BG game.

no shit!! GREAT post... I said many times our best ten players were better than their ten best players... but their depth FAR out shined us the last two years... by WIDE margins...

Yeah it's definitely a previous injury from high school, from what I've heard. Besides, if it was from spring practice, I'm almost sure we would've heard about it.

In spring he broke his arm, so it does sound like some sort of injury not from the broken arm.

You can't have a medical redshirt unless you play a game or two and the injury happens during the season. He's not eligable for a medical redshirt he can use the regular redshirt like everyone else.

this kind of stinks. I was looking forward too seeing him and clausen out there. I know that he probably won't of started but he would have seen some time this year. let just hope he sits and learns out this year and come back next and will be ready too step in.
