Tried to watch a couple of episodes. Loved the nudity, LOVED the midget, but just couldn't follow the 83 story-lines. I know that everybody says it's an incredible show, but it's just not my cup of tea, personally speaking.

Now, I agree wholeheartedly about the wire. I went through all 5 seasons twice through DirectTV 101, and I'd watch it all again tomorrow. It is just an absolutely outstanding show, from the acting, the writing, the stories...everything.I used to think the Sopranos was the GOAT, but honestly, The Wire is even better, by a wide margin actually. (I'm starting Breaking Bad soon)...

Yeah I agree that there are what 39 storylines in the series and it got bigger this past season but they are slowly "killing" off the storylines and I think it will start to condense itself.

For the most part it has to have lots of storylines because everyone is aying for the throne then they have some storylines on the side like Starks daughter and such.

I watched the first three episodes when they first aired.
Decided I couldn't wait to find out what happens and read every book before season 1 ended.

Season 1 was a masterpiece.
Season two was rushed and a bit jumbled.
They really need to make each season 13+ episodes to truly give them justice.

Oveall, I love the series and I love the books even more....but...my problems with the tv show are also that it is even more convoluted trying to put such a large novel into 10 episodes. They need to make more. And it takes so damn long until the next season comes, and then its only ten frigging episodes.

My problems with the novels are it takes so damn long for him to put out the next one that, since there are so many storylines, I have to go to wikipedia to remember some of the characters and whether I like them or not.

that martin better make sure he finishes all those books...he is no spring chicken and if he dies before finishing the series it will be a nightmare for all his fans.
pressure from publisher is really on. the irony is that he is so involved with the HBO series last couple years (scripts) it has prevented him from finishing up all the damn books.

Great show, better books. I started reading after season 1 and am now about 2/3 through the third book. GRRM is a prick, great author, total prick.

Wanna know who Jon's parents are!?!1one

Tempted to spoil the sh!t out of this thread, but I'll hold back.

Ha my damn cousin threw some book info my way spoiling some pretty big events. Sucks that I know what happens to such and such but it is pretty cool knowing it.

My buddy started reading the books and he too said that it is a whole new/better experience than the show. I said once I get my kindle I will buy the ebooks and start reading.

I really appreciate GOT, gratuitous use of boobies and bums (Ros :drool:) . Tyrion Lannister (The Imp) pretty much steals every scene he is in.

I no longer have a HBO trial subscription so it will be a bit of a wait until I can watch Season 2 on BLURay.

lol that info has not yet been revealed, even in the books, right? I've read all 5 but I read them so fast that I almost don't remember them, so I may have missed something. Someone relayed a message-board theory to me that I find delicious, if far-fetched. Whiskey, if you don't mind, PM me your theory. I'd be curious to know if it's the same one.

Great, great show. Keeps you interested. The Imp is my favorite character.

I just hope it doesn't get TOO crazy, as many shows do when they start straying too far from the books/storylines or they start running outta ideas. As one of the others on here said, shows can get too muddled.

Although it's one of my favorites, I still like Boardwalk Empire better. Not that it's that much better, but i"m into the mob type stories. It has the making of another Sopranos.

read an article on how the books prices in kindle store went from like 7 to 9.00 each before the HBO series and are now up to 15.99each...taking advantage of the hype/popularity? what say you all? you ok with this?

I wouldn't worry about that. The content of Martin's 5 existing books has given them far more excellent coherent storylines than they could ever hope to cram into a series. They're already having to condense his plot and do away with characters. My only real concern is that Martin will die before completing the series. He's 64 years old and over-weight; I'm not prepared for another Robert Jordan.

The demand is there, so why not? Then again, I've paid for every book in hard cover the moment they hit the shelves, so maybe I'm not a good example.

Game of Thrones is amazing and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) is a phenomenal character.

They mention briefly who Snow's mother is.

Really nothing else to say except that it is amazing.

Also, The Wire is absolutely outstanding.

They have the scene where Cat and Ned are in bed and they talk about Ashara Dayne....

Ah, you're right. Have you read the books? Don't want to spoil anything for you.

Every one...and I just sent you a PM about it. I donno if that was in the show or if I'm remembering the books. I'm on another reread right now because of some topics on westeros.org. He hints and leaves so many clues it's a blast trying to piece things together.

Wait so do you think Ashara Dayne is really Jon's mother? I thought that was misdirection.

Mon frere I can't get into all of this. Read the books, there are hints for many scenarios to play out. It's like crack-cocaine in book format. I could tell you a lot of very very very interesting aspects which are hinted and suggested in the books that you'll only pick up in rereads or through discussions with others. Read all five books and head over to westeros.org.

Success story of a Notre Dame education...being able to purchase books on hard back right when they come out and not give a damn on the price ;)

One day I will be there....one day

Apparently the show is about to start costing a lot more due to the increase in its fantasy elements. Any of you who read the books could perhaps shed some light on this.

Everything gets bigger and the CGI elements are becoming a burden since it costs a hell of a lot. Larger battles and the more into the books you go the more the fantasy elements come out. I can think of a few things that you just won't be able to emulate without CGI in the coming books.

Lol, mgriff, I've read all of the books. I don't think Ashara Dayne is the mother; I was just wondering what you thought. I'll check you out on the other site though if you prefer.

I found this recently:
Game of Thrones’ Alfie Allen on Theon’s Finale Speech, His Daddy Issues, and George R.R. Martin’s Love of Lily Allen -- Vulture
The actor who plays Theon, Alfie Allen, knows the secret! He says it "involves a bit of a Luke Skywalker situation." I believe that supports my favorite theory.

I'm glad to know from that that Martin is willing to share secrets about how the books will end. I'd hate for the HBO producers to box themselves into a corner because they don't know the ending of the story they've started telling. Looks like there's no reason to be worried about that.

Go to westeros.org, but you may get angry that things get revealed. I figured maybe one or two of the theories out myself, but I've been informed on the vast majority of the theories from others on the site discussing content and coming to conclusions. He leaves sooooo much info to be pieced together and figured out, but he also is a fan of misdirection, so nothing is certain but there are some very strong theories on there. I would look for a variable title on there which is Jon Snow's parentage, and the Heresy threads, all 23 of them which will take you a loooooooong time to read.

I think HBO extended their contract to incorporate seasons 3 & 4.....so are the next two seasons of this guaranteed to air?...then if the price is to steep they cancel it or do they give GoT a smaller budget so seasons after 3 & 4 won't be as heavy with all the special effects??

They picked up seasons three and four, but I think that will just be A Storm of Swords since it is so vast and so much content you can't just skip over. Book five will be murderous on the budget. I have no idea how they will do it. I dont' even think it's possible.

Also, Season Three is filming already and it premieres March 31st.

Good grief that is a hell of a long time away and I really hope they increase the episodes per season if possible. Good thing I'm into True Blood and Boardwalk to keep me busy. All this talk about The Wire makes me want to give it try and see how it is.
