We used to keep our Husky crated during the day when we were at class/work, and again overnight.
She was too energetic to leave to her own devices when she was young (I'm not talking standard "husky energetic," I'm talking "got the cokehead of the litter" energetic). She hated it, and was smart enough to stick her snout through the bars and lift the locking mechanism, so we found her outside of the crate a few times when we would get home.
We started zip-tying the door to the upper and lower frames so even if she got it unlocked, it still had no way to open.
But, once we moved into our new (now old) place, we gave her a trial run of roaming the house during the day and at night. That little bit of freedom did a lot to mellow her out, and most of the bad behavior that we would crate her for had been corrected.
She hated the crate, but it worked, and I guess it made her realize that she needs to appreciate the freedom and behave now that she has it lol
