If you break our immigration laws to come here you have committed a crime, and you most certainly are a criminal in doing so. That's the definition of a criminal: someone who commits a crime. Violating our immigration laws is a crime.

Why do you think we have immigration laws? Why do you think every other country on the planet has immigration laws that say who can and can't come into their country, the conditions they must meet to do so, the process they must go through to do so, and so on. You violate those law, whether it's France, Namibia, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, or us, you've violated their laws, have committed a crime, and won't be allowed to stay. Protecting national sovereignty (that of the Vatican, in your example) by upholding the rules of law is not the same as rounding people up inhumanely at best or killing them at worst.

The Church's teachings oppose extremism (in either direction) and would absolutely not condone the actions of ICE. It's not simply "that" the US is enforcing policy. It's the "how."
