I feel bad for these kids, but, not to sound too much like a ****...they really need to not friend people they don't know or are fans of certain schools. We've heard about Irish fans attacking kids that have decommitted to us, how truly sad and pathetic. Facebook needs to be off limits for fans but the kids can really help themselves in this situation.

Tuitt, and many others, invite fans to participate in their Facebook. He has recently even asked for input on a fan page he is designing specifically based on this years recruiting class and the future.

*again I do not, and completely against, any attempt of communication with any recruit thru a social networking site*

And to add something else, I'm on my phone so if this is inappropriate pleas mod delete it, butanyone with minimal knowledge of these sites knows that when signing up it asks for contact info such as phone numbers and email adresses. Phone numbers are not required but qyuite a few people input theirs. Which now makes them public knowledge to anyone on their friends list. So the recruits that did input their phone numbers there is thousands of fans who now have that personal number

Yeah I agree its like. either
1 if you add Fans to your page....expect whats going to come and deal with it
2 Don't add fans to your page and keep it private.

Its really hard to believe that anyone would put their fone number! I mean...what are you thinking?!

Completely agree. Mine personally isn't on there. But a lot of family and friends i emailed to let them know and most had no clue that it was as easily accessable as a click or two away from your main page. And some recruits/players do have their privacy settings set so when you click on 'add as a friend' it pops up and says 'do not request as a friend unless you know personally'

Gotcha. So they put it on there not realizing how accessible it is...Thats outrageous that FB doesn't have some kind of warning about this. There shouldn't even be a place for it!

that little pop up 'do not request as a friend....' doesn't really do any good if I click "I know them" and they still accept ya know?

Stay the hell away imo. If you are some star kid and need your ego stroked then make a Fan Page and keep your personal page private.

The fact that friending high school kids is creepy should not be the only reason not to. It also could result in NCAA violations against "your" team. Following recruiting is cool if that is what you're interested in, but lets try to keep a little perspective.

Two or three years ago Kentucy had to stop recruiting a prospect because of this kind of contact.

I use it to follow recruits and players. I've stated many times that I am completely against any attempt to contact them in any way. I read their posts and thats it. Anyone who does more than that to me is crossing the line.

Yes its complete b.s. that its that accessable. And as far as the message coming up, most of the ones who have that privacy feature set have alot less followers, and should definitely filter who they allow as 'friends'.

If you welcome the fans/followers like Tuitt does than you need to accept what comes with that, but the fans/followers need to show respect and restraint. However if you are one who desires the privacy then you should not accept any random requests and the fans/followers need to respect that also.

True. They need to and SHOULD but, if we're honest, a lot won't. They'll rant and post how they please...even some ND fans sadly. So, if you keep it unprivate they better be ready for what will follow.
