Totally fair criticism, but I started following the sport around 2010, and in my opinion (as a city fan) this is by far the best overall situation Arsenal have ever been in since 2010.

It is hard to swallow the lack of trophy success with Arteta, because it is incredibly important.
However, if I'm an Arsenal fan I have to be feeling very optimistic going into next season if they can finally solve the striker situation this transfer season. I mean this squad with Isak would be incredibly formidable for example.

I think I saw DraftKings has them as the betting favorite right now even before they likely get a striker this transfer season.

On the other foot, I know its incredibly unlikely but Arsenal is not assured Champions League football next season just yet when you look at thier remaining schedule and how bunched up the top 6-7 are.
It's probably like 92% or higher they finish top 5, but I was a little surprised when I looked at it after the loss to Bournemouth how close everything truly is.

The teams sitting 15th and 16th in the English Premier League are going to play for a Europa League Final.

Mikel Arteta said yesterday Arsenal are the best team in the Champions League, but they're out. Very interesting.

I have no doubt this is a ploy to misdirect heat away from the players onto him, and it's a solid tactic, because nobody can be this fucking delusional and entitled.

Re: youth sports. The parents are the problem. Let your kids have fun playing sports. No need to push them up some sort of perceived ladder. At the end of the day, chances a very low it will ever pay the bills anyway.

Yes and no. A lot of times there are no other options than club sports, especially if your kids are good. It’s very annoying but you end up going down that road because rec leagues are all but gone for many sports/ages.

I'm right in the thick of it too. I've been coaching my oldest son for the last 4 years and now my youngest. I'm as guilty as anyone but we parents of the last 2 generations have built this environment of tiered pay to play youth sports. We have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Yeah, don’t disagree that parents today are stuck dealing with a system they didn’t create. Came from bad choices in the past, most likely from a bunch of Boomers. They’re usually to blame from my experience.

Interesting discussion on youth soccer...i grew up in our amateur soccer club and played over 40 years ago...at that time, there were primarily ethnic clubs...you had our Polish clubs AAC Eagles, Wisla etc...you had the German clubs Schwaben AC, Green White (my neighbors dad and uncle started it and he himself played at Indiana during the Championship years)...you had Italian club Maroons, the Liths, United Serbs, Pampas the Argentinian club...now, its like 100s of clubs trying to make money off kids...its sickening. We try to keep our dues low to cover costs and still people dont appreciate it. They equate more money=better club...lol

I don't know if this speaks to the strength of the English Premier League or that Europa League is shit. Maybe it's a bit of both. Both of them have been out of the domestic races for months. They've probably gone all in for this cup competition and have focused sorely on those Thursday matches.

Man United and Spurs have not been able to get much in the league each week for love or money. They're terrible. One of the worst Man United teams in our lifetimes for certain. Likely THE worst in the PL era (for some folks life in English Football started in 1992). Regardless of what Spurs do in that final, they're probably going to have a new manager next year.

Then you have Chelsea also in the final of the Conference League. They currently sit fifth in the Premier League table.

Seems hard to argue that England is one of if not the best league in the world. You've got to be on it week in and week out, especially when you're playing away.

I think you are right.

My 9 year old has been in club soccer now since before Covid. Being that my wife played in college and coaches varsity high school, these teams expect a lot from my daughter. Mind you, she's 9. I don't think we have the benefit of politics, but being that she is a coach's kid, she can get the benefit of the doubt from time to time. The expectations far outweigh any benefits, though.

She is currently being coached by a woman who played in the Big East and her daughter is on the team. Her daughter misses a lot of training due to other commitments and while she doesn't start, she's on the A tier team and gets plenty of minutes in games.

It's all exhausting. I work 40 hours a week and each day when I'm done I'm in the car driving kids to sports. Everything I did K-12 in the 80s and 90s was through school. It seems far more expensive and time consuming today. I am trying to savor the time because it's going fast and I know it will be over soon, but in the moment it is difficult to enjoy for various reasons. Two big ones being it consumes a lot of time and money I wish I had more of.

Bologna, Newcastle and Palace winning domestic cups in the same season is pretty remarkable. I think that's two centuries of drought among them ended.

Juventus, Real Madrid and Manchester City not winning anything is pretty surprising.

I have always liked Sonny as a player and person. For him to win a trophy at Spurs the same year Kane finally gets one at Bayern seems pretty fitting.

What's really great about yesterday is that Tottenham ended a 17 year trophy drought at the expense of Manchester United. That's worth drinking up and then some.

If Real Betis does the Lord's work and beats Chelsea next week, it'll put a bow on a pretty nice season in England coupled with Real Madrid and Juventus both winning nothing, too.

World Football healed itself this season as far as I'm concerned. Cheers.

I've liked him since he was at Leverkusen.

His contract is up in a year and he'll be 33. I don't know where the road will take him next but I hope he plays in Europe somewhere.
