If Klopp is really looking for a striker, Timo Werner might be a better fit. And cheaper.

Lacazette has his heart set on Athleti but because of their transfer ban he can't go there just yet.

Werner has been linked alot. Leipzig's squad is about to be vultured.

Lots of rumors that Patrick Roberts is indeed staying at Celtic, full purchase.

Kolasinac to Arsenal:
Arsenal makes it official with versatile left-sided Schalke man | ProSoccerTalk

Great signing for them or anyone, imo. I thought he might make sense for LFC, but it never materialized.

I'm delighted with VVD and Salah, assuming the deals go through. Still very concerned about the fullbacks, since apparently LFC dropped pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon because he wasn't committed to leaving London (the parallels between Liverpool and Notre Dame recruiting continue to amaze). Andy Robertson of Hull now? Great young player, but not as splashy a target as I'd hoped.

Report yesterday surfaced that they're targeting Ghoulam from Napoli now. If that's true, it's a great choice. Definitely a player I rate.

Would Klopp switch to a back three? Gives you a lot of options.

Kolasinac was probably the best left back in the Bundesliga last year. To get him on a free is pretty massive. I'm curious why he would go to Arsenal when they don't have Champions League, though.

Who is Liverpool selling? FSG has been normally pretty stingy, operating more like Spurs who don't take huge losses in the transfer windows. How much is Pool spending?

I get taking advantage of Klopp + Champions League but realistically they will be in a very tough pod coming out CL playoffs and if they don't advance past the group stages the payout is like £18 million. Nothing earth shattering.

I know Klopp said they have the money but obliterating their transfer fee record by almost double AND giving VanDyke the highest ever wages at the club is crazy. We looking at £100 million just for VanDyke and Salah? Hoo boy, good luck!

They're going to need depth, so they may not be in a hurry to sell a lot of players. Best guesses would be Sturridge, Moreno, Lucas and Sakho. Some young guys go on loan again. They may want to consider keeping Sturridge, Moreno and Lucas even as squad players. What landed them fourth and out of domestic cups by January was not having depth to withstand injuries.

They don't set the market. You rate a player, you go get him. Especially now that they have Champions League to offer. Van Dijk is pretty good on the ball and in the air. They got Matip for free, so if that's your center half duo, you're doing pretty well.

I just read a Liverpool FC fan thread (somewhat more civilized than a Notre Dame football thread, but it had its moments), and something dawned on me: The vast majority of those people are ho-hum on Lallana, often relegating him to the bench for the coming season. Firmino also typically gets their ax.

I'm boggled about both, but particularly about Lallana, who continually is part of the Liverpool scores (whether one or two passes back.) England apparently agreed with me, having named him to their squad. Klopp apparently agrees. What's in their heads?

These people are projecting Mane, Coutinho, Salah, and then a variety of mysteries occur in the final two attacking choices --- but in only about a quarter of them does Lallana appear. Can folks here enlighten me?

They are, at least, delirious about Van Dijk, and most bench Lovran and keep Matip on the pitch. Huge bitchings ensue about Henderson vs Can, and generally about James Milner. I believe that I've only seen one prospective line-up that my amateur eye would agree with.

Coutinho will drop to a center mid role. Front three would likely be Salah-Firmino-Mane in front of him. Does Lallana drop into the midfield? Possible. They're going to need options with all the matches they will play.

Henderson should be back. They need to lock up Can to a long term deal.

Yeah, that first half was the most entertaining half of soccer I've seen all year. Both sides were really going for it, and there was so much quality on both sides. I was just in awe of the skill at times, especially on the Juve goal. Absolute stunner. Then the wheels came off for Juve in the second half, and that took the fun out of it for me. Real is just so unlikable.

Isco was fantastic, it's true. It's funny, a few years ago when Raheem Sterling was still with my Reds, but after the Man City rumors had started, I specifically remember saying to my buddy, "Let Sterling go if he wants, but he should keep in mind that Rodgers has featured him and will continue to do so, whereas at Man City he'll just be Isco," meaning a young talented guy who nevertheless doesn't play that much in the meaningful matches. My prediction was correct as to Ras, but the analogy has turned out to be all wrong because Isco has turned into an absolute stud.

I mean raz was probably one of our five best players this year, so I wouldn't agree with your assessment whatsoever. He might take on more of the old isco role next year tho, with all the attacking talent that we might have assembled at that point.

James Milner does what is asked of him. He's a great piece to have. I think he had the third most minutes on the squad last year. Clyne was up there too. They need fullback coverage. Klopp's system demands a lot from the fullbacks. Milner had never played there before and played virtually every minute of the season there. It's one thing for people to bitch, but in the end, he crossed the finish line pretty fatigued. It's a fact.

He's a tremendous asset because he can fill different roles at different times. Great leadership intangibles too. He helped hold things together while Henderson was out. If they seriously want to contend for a title next year, however, they need an upgrade at left back. That's nothing against Milner. Just a reality when you look at their squad as it is now.

Clyne, Lambert, Lovren, Lallana Mane, soon to be VVD. LOL

That's just to Liverpool. They have a great academy. Maybe not like Ajax or Barcelona, but they have produced great players over the years.

Matt Targett and James Ward Prowse are two to keep an eye on.

Yeah I had the impression he was starting to get dropped more and more often second half of the year, especially after Gabriel Jesus came back healthy. As I review his appearances,

Raheem Sterling Player Profile - ESPN FC

I think my assessment was basically correct, although of course he still played a lot of football this year, more than I realized, in fact.

RaS really needs to get his finishing together. If he does that, it'll be hard to overtake him.

Sold off. I didn't really think it mattered. The money spends the same.

True, I just saw that first list and it was youth players, then went to guys like VVD and VW, who were bought and sold...

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/german-tax-inquiry-could-force-southampton-sale-jn3f6ctkk

Saints are also pissed about Van Dijk's alleged "recruitment" to Liverpool.

Irony that this is a GERMAN tax inquiry. Klopp knows people in high places, I guess.

Rumors Sanchez is headed to City.

trying real hard not to get my hopes up, but the reporter who is saying this was A. with Pep yesterday and B. supposedly broke news on G Jesus, Sane, Stones and Nolito last year.

Wow... sounds like Liverpool has completely pulled out any interest of VVD and publicly apologized to Southampton! WUT?
