same here... it seems he gone.

Gray will now without question be back next year... as if he wasn't gonna be anyway...

BK will also be on the phone with each and every four star and up DB in the country who can get through admissions and say... "Do you have a fax?... I'd love to send you a depth chart."

I have read he never fully recovered from his knee injury in High School. Too bad, he was highly rated by ESPN.

now think about what will happen against four and five wide sets if one of our remaining four corners gets hurt from now til then...

Ugh. Scary thought. It's going to be a safety, most likely Slaughter, who will be moved to CB. Banks wasn't expected to contribute at all, so if we avoid 2 injuries it won't affect us should he decide to transfer. But hopefully he'll stay.

E.J Banks off team?

E.J Banks off team?

Saw this on the Four Horsemen Lounge at Irish Illustrated. I do not have a premium account on Rivals so the reason is unknown to me, at least.

If true, this is yet another blow to the secondary, at which we're getting woefully thin.

Oh my I hope not! That would be a huge blow. I know over the weekend he was sitting out of practices, thought it was do to an injury.

Apparent academics issues if true, but supposedly Lo Wood moved ahead of him coming into camp.

I refrain from posting a lot of the rumors that come about in the 4HL on Rivals. However, one of the analysts said that there is concern with his academic standing. No word on whether or not he's planning on transferring. Regardless, it's not good. He was a highly touted athlete coming into ND prior to his injury. This further depletes our secondary. We'll need to make good use of his scholarship if he chooses to leave.

I thought he was going to be a good player for us. I absolutely loved the video I saw of him under his ESPN profile and on youtube. He looked good with the ball in his hands, I thought he could have easily played WR.

This is probably what Kelly was hinting at when he said a WR may try to transition to DB this season.

Defensive Back Situation for '11 Season if EJ leaves:

Robert Blanton
Gary Gray (May Graduate)
Lo Wood
Eilar Hardy
Jalen Brown
Matthias Farley

Need 1 or 2 to fill the gap

Oh man we are really getting ahead of ourself here...I'm having an anxiety attack over this.

If Gray graduates or decides to go to the NFL (Could happen if he has a big year) maybe you move Slaughter to corner and have McCarthy start at safety next year? But we are thin at safety also.

This would mean the loss of 3 DBs in an undermanned secondary before the season starts.

Wow!

Ain't it fun to be a head coach with No JUCO ability. Your players have to be home grown.

I'd bet on a WR moving over. Maybe Daniel Smith...

Kelly and Diaco like tall corners but Smith is 6-4, 208 and was listed at 4.6. He's not Bobby Taylor. Smth may move to Safety but I don't think corner.

Dion Walker is 6-3 198 and quicker (at least in HS)

Others
Roby Toma 5-9 175 So./3 5:12 (1)
Barry Gallup 5-11 190 5th
Austin Collinsworth 6-1 195 Fr
Bennett Jackson 6-0 172 Fr

Jackson is probably the quickest of the bunch.

Riddick was a RB/CB in HS but I think his switch to the slot preempts CB

During recruiting ESPN harped on Wood playing Safety in college. His lack of PT last year had me thinking he'd being moving ala Tony Driver and Burres but Kelly squashed that moving Riddick to the slot to get Wood carries.

Holtz moved Autry Denson to CB when he was a freshman - for one game.

this really sucks if it comes to be true, which it seems like it may very well be.

but if we look on a brighter side BK is a great person at putting talent in places of need, he could make an O-Lineman into a Safety if he needed

I sure hope this doesn't happen, it would really hurt our depth at defensive back. Especially after we had Boyd tranfer.

LOL... good one (despite the crappy news, I laughed). Chris Stewart as a Safety? :jawdrop:

Kelly has said that Motta will be the nickel back, at least we know he has enough confidence in the sophomore where if there's an injury to a corner, Slaughter could move and Motta could start at safety?

Motta the nickle back and not RJ Blanton? Does that mean Motta is moving up the depth charts? I would have expected Motta to be backup safety and the dime back now.

It is good to know the Slaughter could slide down to corner and either Motta or McCarthy could fill his spot at safety.

He is leaving the team but is still enrolled...if this were a case of academic ineligibility he would leave ND altogether. Is it possible EJ has failed to get medical clearance to play?

Good question. Please refresh my memory... what injury did he have before?
