Calling all IE vets (the animal kind):

We noticed tonight our female dog (1 year old, spayed) has been licking her private area and biting that general region tonight. I flipped her over, and noticed her vaginal area is swollen and pink, and the inside of her leg looks reddish also. I'm calling the vet tomorrow, but is there anything we can do to relieve her in the meantime?

Did you just put a picture of dog vagine on our sacred IE? Or is that Cando's mullet?

An IE first... Dog vagine... And we wonder why the site has bugs.

For real though. Two things.
1) is your other dog a dude? Neutered?
2) might be a yeast infection

Thanks for the replies, you know I work hard to help keep the bar high on IE with inane posts like this. The other dog is a neutered male.

Having a private kennel for about 20 years, I can't say I have run into this before. A rule of thumb, dogs have a lot of the same maladies as humans and a lot of the same medicines will work for dogs. If you have some type of anti-itch medication, you can use it to reduce the discomfort until you get her to the vet. The redness on the leg is probably a result of her licking and biting down there. I assume no fleas? Could be an infection or possibly mites.
