CW's press conference is set today for 12 noon eastern. I'm trying to get the live feed up, and I'll give updates if possible. Anybody who watches it or hears anything, feel free to chime in...

- Won't give up play calling duties for a long time, mostly because of his confidence in his defensive staff. This year he will once again focus most of duties on the offensive side of the ball, because he feels great strides have been made in special teams as well as the defense.

- Not going to talk about the running game and how good they will be because they need to show it, not talk about it. Wants to get to 4.6 yards per game or better, because that's what BCS teams do.

- Seems to be in a good mood, joking around.

- Not worried about the ranking of #23, it's all subjectivity after the top 10...

- On Jimmy Clausen: He says he wants to most improve on the TD to INT ratio, and he says that he truly believes that he will. Said he's improved a lot. Says JC will be a much better leader, and has been this new season, because he feels much more comfortable in what he is doing on the field, and has less to worry about. Believes he is now showing great leadership.

- Says the moves on the O-Line have been in the works for a long time behind the scenes that people see. Trevor being hurt in the spring is why Wenger still played center. Olson will be the starting center (I think I heard him say that...having a bit of a problem with my connection)

- Talked about how good the receivers can be. Tate gets open w/ speed, Floyd with his body. Talked about how JC, on his own, flew out Floyd, Rudolph and others (connections issues), and created a real bond with them.

- On why they are good recruiters: He gives credit to the staff, who have put a great net over the nation and have built great relationships with schools across the country. He emails recruits every other day, as he is hamstrung by not being able to visit recruits during most parts of the year.

- Constant theme of presser is "show me, don't tell me." He's talking about himself, his players, his staff, the entire program.

- On Tenuta and the defense: Lots of youth and athleticism, which brings a lot of uncertainty. Excited about KLM, who has bulked up and it sounds like he's set to start (??? connection), and Ethan JOhnson who is up to 285, and says Iam WIlliams has never been in such great shape.

- AA is the first RB, period. Hughes, Gray, and even a bit of Aldridge all want a piece of AA's carries. (CW really loves AA!!!)

- On Trevor, he really likes his athleticism for his size and that he gives them the best line.

- The ONE reason he thinks ND will be better this year? EXPERIENCE!!!

- END OF PRESSER...

Some people just have no priorities.

I know, right? I've been unemployed since March. They want to offer me the position, just have to clear the corporate red tape. Should have an offer next week! Everyone say a prayer for me!!

I think we'll all be pleasantly suprised by the defense this year. I mean we got Walls back, and we finally have some depth(not much playing time, but depth nonetheless). Factor in Manti the man-child, and this could be a great defense. It all depends on the line, but I think we'll have the best defensive line we've had in several years.

I may have totally missed this, and it is a bit off subject(CW talking about the youth of the D)...but wondering if anything has been said about Teo taking a leave after this season for a 'mission'? Is that still the plan or hasn't it been talked about!?

I don't recall anything definitive being announced other than ND would accomodate a mission. I assume it's a personal thing and not something that will be covered in a weekly press conference until Charlie casually mentions at the Spring Practice Wrapup or Preseason Camp PC that "Manti Te'o is not enrolled for the next semester". Considering the Student Privacy Act I wouldn't expect that school to say anything more than that. It would be up to the student athlete to elaborate, if he chose to.

I asked Chris Badger's brother in Chris's Profile Thread to expand on a "mission" for we non Mormons. He repiled:

The choice to go on a mission is completely voluntary. Of course young males are "urged" by their church leaders to go. It's almost kind of like a right of passage. That being said however, a significant number of young males choose not to go for various reasons and their standing in the church and community is not affected. Steve Young, a very prominent Mormon, did not go on a mission and instead chose to play college football all 4 years and then play in the NFL.

If one does want to go on a mission they must go through an application process and be interviewed by their local church leader. They put a "starting date" on the application indicating when they are available to start (for example "June 2009"). Church headquaters will then send them a letter indicating where they will be going and what date they will be starting. Missionaries do not receive any financial compensation for the work and actually pay their own way. Again, the potential missionary intiates the process and notifys when he is available.

Bo McNally is a saftey for Stanford and I actually played against him in High School - Timpview won :). He played all four years at Stanford and did not go on a mission. He is a great kid and a strong member in the church. I don't know what is situation is now but he could be gonig on a mission after he graduates or he might not.
