I would support a "Mortal Kombat" style system, where each week the schedule is redrawn so only the undefeated teams play each other. Problem is you could only get a 7 week season out of that...would have to figure out some sort of way for 1 loss teams to reenter the tourney to make it work.

The possible 'fatality' segments during the post game shows would be intriguing...

Please do not insult us because we disagree with you and like a system you do not like.

Apologies, I was posting quickly yesterday and was just going with my gut. This topic is very dear to me as I believe it ruins one of my greatest passions and I do believe those that adovcate playoffs don't do so out of legitimacy or the like but more so out of normalcy. Maybe that states my feelings better?

8 game playoff would run everyone through a gauntlet over 5 weeks. Win three in a row over top 10 teams and you deserve to be crowned champion. 5 conference champs and 3 at large.

While I think that cheapens the regular season too much, it also encourages tougher scheduling since you can easily get in with 2 losses.

I would rather see the top two teams get a bye and the next four duke it out in the first round with a one week turnaround. Big advantage to the top 2 teams - which the deserve for having the best regular season. With one at large and five conference champs it is hard to say anyone is missing out that really deserves to be at the party.

I like this idea the best besides for conference automatic qualifiers. Most of the time it would probably work out that each conference got there champion in the playoffs. Although if you make it an automatic bid, the year a conference is down they still get an undeserving playoff spot. I think giving the two teams and one and two is a great way to keep the regular season meaningful as it is a much deserved bye.

I think that strength of schedule is a moot point as long as Div1A teams are still allowed to schedule Div1AA teams. Those games should either not count or count as half a game.

And while I will always stand by NDs never playing Div1AA teams, I believe they should craft the easiest possible schedule and just hammer teams. Place a couple tough but still winnable games and roll.

Champions should not be decided in a computer or on a ballot, they should be decided on the field. Unfortunately a ballot or computer is necessary to determine who gets to play on that field.

Or: champions don't need to be decided at all. There's no reason we need to have a consensus champion in a field of 120. If one team is clearly the best after the bowl games, they'll be consensus champions. If they're not clearly the best, who cares if one team gets a crystal football and another team gets a golden football?
