I'm so disappointed in the bland, safe approach they're taking with this remake. They could've made a difference by calling it "Racially Mixed Trans Bois Can't Jump" and centered it around a racially ambiguous transgender homeless person who's been trod upon by White Supremacy and the patriarchy who finally decides to transition to being their inner woman and shows they can throw down on the court with everyone. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It could've been the bold, brave film we all need to change the world.

You are thinking Juwanna Mann - ranked #2 on ACamp's all time list behind WMCJ.

I actually went to school with a girl named Jawanna. I won't give her actual last name, but it was something along the lines of Screws, Quick, Fuchs, Dick, etc. She spent every day of her life in HS hearing, "You wanna ****?" Many, many years later after my divorce, we became reaquainted through our HS's FB page and ended up dating for a few months in 2009. Apparently she did.

Boggles my mind why a parent would place their kid in a position of mockery for their name choice.

Fort Wayne had a former Mayor by the name of Harry Baals. Back about 10 years ago, the city had a naming contest for the new governmental center. Yup, you guessed it, the top vote-getter was Harry Baals Governmental Center. LOL. Of course they picked an alternate name.

Trust me, we all had that same thought in HS. Her parents were a bit out of touch and set her up for disaster in more ways than one. They were 100% certain that she was going to become a nun, so they never bothered teaching her about sex, guys, romance, the realities of life outside a convent, etc. Just TOTALLY left her unprepared for the real world. She had no interest in being a nun and when she went off to college, things got interesting. She was absolutely clueless about guys, sex, and all the rest. She told me that when she lost her virginity in college at the age of 20, she didn't even know that's what that was and what had actually happened. I doubt her parents ever made the connection between Jawanna/"Ya wanna" and their last name. It just went over their heads, I'm sure.

I had to laugh at the following article from Deadspin (who else?)

The gist of the article is that America has failed Griner and that her arrest in Russia for drug possession is not her fault (it never is). It's America's fault for not making the WNBA pay her more so she wouldn't have to play overseas in the WNBA's off season, and thus be subject to the drug laws of foreign countries.

Certainly is the “victim take” in this article…….pretty funny indeed! Maybe I’m wrong but I would guess the WNBA bases their player salaries on market value and is related to the league/team revenues. If that’s not enough for a player then they can surely scout out other opportunities to make more money. Wherever a player does that, they will still need to be aware of their venue’s laws/rules. Seems like common sense to me.

Would it be nice for WNBA players to make enough to not play overseas? Absolutely. However, that isn't the issue here. The issue is her having an illegal substance in that country. We can all argue that marijuana (and it's byproducts) should be legal until blue in the face, but it isn't in all countries. Add to this that there are some countries with extreme penalties, and you have her situation.

I'll likely never visit Dubai, but if I did, I would make sure to REALLY follow the strict laws they have there. I don't want to be in prison for 25 years because I had a beer in a place I shouldn't.

This is bizarre as hell. No details on exactly how a 5 year old was able to beat a teacher. Kids going to be a problem unless he gets some serious help.

Florida teacher beaten and hospitalized after attack by 5-year-old student, police say

The victim could "blink and breathe regularly" but was not able to "vocally respond" following beating at Pines Lakes Elementary School in Pembroke Pines.

March 7, 2022, 11:27 AM EST
By David K. Li
A south Florida teacher was taken to the hospital last week after she was attacked by a 5-year-old student, leaving her "dazed" and "unresponsive," authorities said.

The unidentified instructor was found by first responders “sitting on the ground against the wall" and "appearing to be in a faint state" at Pines Lakes Elementary School, about 15 miles southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale, according to a heavily redacted Pembroke Pines Police Department incident report.

The victim was "clearly weak and dazed," able to "blink and breathe regularly but at no point was able to vocally respond or show signs of a response," the report said.
The troubling incident started when a 5-year-old had to be removed from class for “throwing things around” and “flipping the chairs,” police said.

The youngster was taken to an empty “cool down” room, where the attack on the teacher allegedly took place, police said. The teacher was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Her young alleged attacker was charged with "aggravated assault with hands, fist and feet," authorities said.

A police spokeswoman on Monday told NBC News she did know know the instructor's condition and a representative for the teachers union could not be immediately reached for comment. Broward County Public Schools officials referred all questions about the beating to police.
The district, though, did share a message that Principal Susan Sasse sent to parents and staff, acknowledging there had been "an incident that occurred in school" which required "a staff member to be transported to a local medical facility" on Wednesday last week.

"At all times during the incident, our campus was secured," Sasse reported. "As always, the health, safety and well being of our students and staff continues to be my highest priority."
The school has nearly 800 students, who range in age from pre-kindergarten through the fifth grade.

As a teacher one thing that is always on my mind is being attacked by a student and my reaction to it. Working in a juvenile justice facility for the last 7 years, we are trained on how to properly defend ourselves and restrain a resident. However, that doesn't always work by the book either. While I've never had to intervene yet, I have seen state staff on top of a young male in the prone position (a no-no) because of the way they fell. Technically it's wrong, but until you can get them in the correct restraint, it is what it is, as long as there is "good faith' so to speak that we are attempting to get in the right holds, and eventually get to them.

This sounds like a young child who clearly had a horrible meltdown. I feel for the teacher, because of the incident and many of the unknowns. Was she the only adult in the room with the child when they were removed? If so, I could really see a hesitance to physically stop them for fears after the incident. Are there cameras in the room? Is there proper training for these outbursts, including restraint training?

Overall, it's just a no win not good scenario for many teachers right now.

And that's been the sticking point for them. The women BB, soccer, and etc. players complain that they make only a fraction of what their male counterparts make, which is true. The problem is that they only produce a fraction of the revenue. Hardly anyone watches the WNBA. Attendance isn't strong, even with lower ticket prices. There's only a fraction of the merchandising revenue. I certainly understand them wanting more money, but they have to find a way to produce more money first.

How are the markets overseas able to offer ~$1 milion in slaray? And these are short seasons too.

I'm genuinely curious. Is this some weird outlier, like Germans loving David Hasselhoff, that russians and some other Europeans love to watch them some womens' hoops or something?

This is, I think a cultural issue, though it redounds in politics as well.

An all volunteer US military.

It eliminates the large portion of the populace from some strange juju that takes place

You have to deal with people
of different pantones
you have to march with them
eat with them
sleep with them

How many white Americans have never had a meal with a black or brown person?
How many black and Brown Americans have never had a meal with a white person?

Massive cultural repercussions there

There is one person on this site who said "I would never live in a blue state."

Well, in the drafted military you don't get to say
"I will never serve in a "Blue" or "Red" platoon

It don't work that way.

VERBAL ABUSE Or eliminating snowflakism

The Hulka/Ermey stuff is not a fabrication, it is the daily parlance of basic training, and during Vietnam era, AIT, especially if you were at Fort Polk!

It conditions one so that if you are not self assured and an egomaniacal butthurt snowflake you get all gooey about what someone says about you.

You must GET strong personally, or you are at the mercy of the insult monkeys.

In Vietnam when you are riding on a deuce and a half to begin a dangerous mission, and a little kid is standing behind his water buffalo, which defecates at an astounding rate, and is so doing, and then the kid hollers HEY GI and pounds his palm on his closed fist, you just stay on the deuce and half, shrug and move to the drop off point. After that, really, is anybody going to be able to insult you?.

TAKING ORDERS

Drop, give me 20! You do it.
Double time. You do it.
Sit in this chair and get vaccinated. You do it.

THE ROMANTICIZATION OF WAR

Combat vets get a bonus! Free, at Government expense.

You get to see the fog of war.
You get to see the numbers, and people die and get wounded.
You get to see, if you were in my company, death by friendly fire, a gut wrenching experience that is far far worse than seeing your buddy killed by a VC
You understand what 5.5 years in the Hanoi Hilton would do to a man.

You see shit you can't unsee, like the snarky Californian in our company who went mini MyLai and shot 7 innocent gooks in plain sight, got yelled at by the sergeant, and later bragged about it out of sight of the sergeant. Assholes are always assholes, but when you give them guns.../.......We talked about shooting him when he were in the field, but never got around to it.

I don't think service is ennobling. Most wars are stupid, teenagers killing teenagers.

But there are lessons you learn, for better or worse.

And observing an America where a lot of people have never learned those lessons, is, well, strange.

The judge in the Jussie Smollett case dropped the hammer on him. The judge was clearly not pleased with Smollett and didn't mince words when he told him what he thought of his actions. He told Smollett that he'd done harm to actual victims of hate crimes and had perjured himself over and over during his trial. For that, the judge hit him with the maximum or close to it across the board, and while most expected Smollett to serve no jail time, the judge hit him with 150 days, starting immediately. Per request by his attorneys, he'll serve it in protective custody. He was still claiming he was innocent as he was led out of the courtroom to jail.

Yet it is a growth industry and has worked FOREVER.

How did Hitler rally the troops and the educated citizens

Blame the Jews.

How did the Conferacy rally the troops and assault Fort Sumter

Blame the Yankees!

The truth offers no shortcuts.

But if you can sell OR LEVERAGE

Anger

Hate

Fear

Then you will have untold riches and power.

Nobody, nobody wants to hold up a mirror and attack the #1 villain in their lives: themselves.

Smollett was trying to boost his career at the expense of race relations. He needs to serve every one of those 150 days.

Teacher needs to be fired. Teach government, but keep your personal feelings out of it.

Kids were in pre-school. There's no reason to be even trying to teach these kids anything about government to begin with. I don't like Biden, but I'd think twice about being able to send my kid back to that school if I was a parent of one of those pre-schoolers.

Shameful that kids would be brainwashed like this…….makes one wonder just how much of this type of behavior goes on related to projecting individual beliefs onto small children.

Not just small children, but up through HS. Whether it is Biden, Trump, Nixon, Roosevelt, etc., something like this should never happen.

Oscars new quota system. Wonder if there will be a quota for Republicans in Hollywood. Nevermind

Starting in 2024, producers will be required to submit a summation of the race, gender, sexual orientation, and disability status of members of their movie’s cast and crew. If a particular movie does not have enough people of color or disabled people or gays or lesbians working on the set—and what is “enough” will be determined by a knotty tangle of byzantine formularies—then that movie will no longer be eligible for an Oscar.

Yeah, that "We want him out" thing is totally inappropriate for that age group. That's not the teacher's place to be projecting her political views onto those kids. I agree with the sentiment and think Biden is an incompetent dolt, but that's not acceptable. No teacher at any level should be indoctrinating kids like that.

I think it's safe to say the golden age of movies is long gone.
