Cubs Fans...

The last time I attended a Chicago Cubs game, Ernie Banks was still playing shortstop, before his move to first base. Transportation cost to the game was a Chicago Transit Authority token(thirteen cents). Often the price of admission would stay in our pants - a relative cop or Andy Frane usher would wave us through a gate. With early attendance, we would acquire at least one scuffed baseball from batting/fielding practice. At the start of the game, we would sit in box seats, until late arrivals, purchased tickets in hand, would call for an usher to shag our asses to general admission. The brand of baseball the Chicago Cubs were playing, at the time, was not worth the price of admission. This assessment still holds true today. Back then, it would take a player like Willie Mays to make the game interesting for Cub fans. Playing a shallow center field, Willie would race to the wall for a ball over his head, loosing his cap, to make a basket catch of a routine fly ball. For how many years have the Chicago Cubs failed to play .500 baseball? If you have nothing better to do with your time, and money, go attend a Chicago Cubs baseball game.

I have been to a Cubs baseball game both recently and in the past and will again in the future. You seem to be out of touch with what the Cubs are currently doing as an organization and I have no clue what your purpose was in posting.

I'd rather buy a cubbies ticket than to read another one of your douchebag posts.

I wish I could have that 30 seconds of my life back.

Literally just went to a Cubs game yesterday, while the team isn't all that great this season it is still a great experience. Tuesday night, 55 degrees to start the game, and 20 games under .500 and the stands were packed. You couldn't find a single person in the bleachers who wasn't having a good time.

Amen! So sick of these so called Cub fans who think the last 100 years of history has anything to do with the present. What Epstein and Hoyer are doing with this organization is light years ahead of anything the Cubs have done the last 40 or so years. Yes we all knew they were going to be very bad for at least three to four years after Epstein took over. Why is that a surprise?

All these bandwagon Cub fans will be right back on the bus in 2016 or so after the everyday lineup includes Alcantra, Castro, Baez, Bryant, Soler, Almora, Russell etc and whatever the rotation is with Scherzer, Lester, Turner etc.........

Me and my buddies were just discussing that the other day. It's going to be absolutely amazing once we get everyone up and playing everyday and sign some pitchers but the bandwagon fans are going to be extremely obnoxious. Case in point, went to game yesterday and saw a guy wearing a Baez jersey and then went on to call him Jose Beez the whole the game.

Just found out via Facebook that a guy I grew up with caught, or wound up with, Baez's first Wrigley home run. Security tracked him down on Waveland and he got to trade the ball for an autographed bat. He has a picture too but I wouldn't feel right posting it without his permission.

That's pretty sweet, happy for him

He's good at pitching.

Bosio is apparently really good.

I really like the coaching staff in place right now. Although I think Renteria is more of a placeholder for someone else more established when the time comes that the team is ready to compete.

Renteria is there for development. Who knows if he'll still be around after next year.

Makes sense. He has been on the 40 man all season and is having his best stint in the minors.
It's too bad Almora seems to be a step behind most of these guys.

Jorge Soler homers in debut for Chicago Cubs - ESPN Chicago

Soler, 22, connected on a 2-1 pitch from Latos in the second inning with the bases empty, hitting the ball onto the netting above the Reds bullpen in center field at the Great American Ball Park. Soler also had a single and 2 RBIs.

Second baseman Javier Baez hit a go-ahead homer in the 12th inning of his debut Aug. 5, a 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.

Baez has homered seven times in 21 games but is batting only .198. He went 1-for-5 with a 2-RBI double against the Reds.

I made sure to watch that at bat live. He pulverized that ball. But he also worked the count a bit before that and had an RBI single (also smashed) later in the game. This kid is could be the real deal.

Yeah, I love Soler as a prospect. He hits for average, hits for power, shows solid plate discipline, good defense, and (unlike basically every other Cubs position prospect) doesn't have issues with Ks. He just needs to stay healthy and he will be a good one, IMO.

You're right about the Ks. That's going to be a frustration at times. Even Bryant (arguably the best hitter in the system) strikes out once a game.

But jeez...there's so much run production from these guys.

If the Cubs can land Lester or Scherzer this offseason, I think they're a playoff team for sure next season.

I can not tell you what I would do to have the Cubs in the playoffs next season.

Lester > Scherzer IMO

I'm cautiously optimistic as well. However, whenever I get to excited, I just remember how good I thought Junior Lake was last year. The key will be how well these rookies can adjust, because I can guarantee you that the league will.
