What I find even funnier is all the Republican talk over the years of personal freedom and states rights and this current govt is shitting on both of them. Those were 2 of the bigs things that I actually agreed with conservatives about and I don’t hear almost any of them standing up and condemning these actions.
That’s because they are full of shit. They are too cowardly to say aloud, “I just hate brown people” offering the most discombobulated rationale for every action they support.

Which third world countries? Which war zones.

Be specific, not hyperbolic.
Well, I'm not usually one to argue others' points for them, but since you asked...

Third world countries with the highest homicide rates: Turks (103 per 100k), Haiti (62), Jamaica (49), Ecuador (45), South Africa (43)

#10 worst is Honduras at 31 per 100k.

Cities mentioned by IrishWayDomer:
St Louis all (54), East St Louis (112)

Chicago all (13), Greater Grand Crossing (124), Englewood (93), Fuller Park (90), Washington Park (81),

Minneapolis all (18), Phillips (25), Hawthorne (22), Near North (21)

So, you tell me: what does the homicide rate tell you about those cities?

Bluto, what gives you that idea?

Is it that Project 2025 thing nobody had ever heard of that was just 900 pages of drivel that wasn't totally serious now being implemented piece by piece that is giving it away?

Or something else?

The government is shutdown. This is our chance, We the People, to just put in a new one while they're gone. This is it. This is our shot. With a little luck, Stephen Miller is sleeping in his coffin and we can just wheel it over to Alexandria, VA so when he wakes up he's there in time to vote for their election next month.

Leave a trail of Reese Pieces for John Fetterman to follow right back to Pennsylvania. Just like E.T.

Get 'em all out.
A black, Supreme Court justice voting in favor of the use of racial profiling is hands down the craziest thing I have ever seen.

Some real life Clayton Bigsby level shit right there.

You did not do specific cities, you cited entire countries.

Based on a quick web search Cape Town has a homicide rate of 70 per 100k.

America is exceptionally violent for a first world country across the board.

Trying to turn this into a rural vs urban thing is stupid and misleading. Based on research I’ve seen rural areas are much more violent per capita.

Also, based on the latest stats I saw States with stricter gun laws have significantly lower rates of death related to guns per capita.

This entire discussion also begs the question as to what is it that the US is or is not doing that makes it the most violent developed nation in the world?

Personally I don’t think it has to do with a lack of prayer/Ten Commandments (which news flash have nothing to do with Christ) or any of the other ridiculous right wing talking points that are usually offered up.

That's what IrishWay said. He compared cities to entire countries. Just being specific to his post.

I didn't try to do anything. I just followed what was posted.

Partially true. According to US government data:

State gun laws have a moderate correlation value r ~ 0.3 - 0.45.

Of the 10 cities with the highest gun homicide rates in the US, 4 of the cities are in states that rank top 10 in gun control, and 3 are in states that rank in bottom 10 in gun control. 2 are in states with moderately high gun control laws.

The highest correlations are:

Socioeconomic factors (poverty, unemployment): 0.55 - 0.65

Population density: 0.45 - 0.55

Race: 0.4 - 0.5

For the record, I am fully in favor of tighter gun control but against banning guns.

Conservatives policies fuck the poor while liberal policies fuck Whites, which means we can expect poor Whites to get very, very angry over time.
Man this is stupud.

The liberal policies of the new deal created the “white” middle class.

Conservative policies beginning with Reagan have torpedoed it.

Why not list the two most violent cities in America? Last year, Birmingham, Ala., led the way with a 58 per 100,000 rate and had its most murders in 9 decades. Jackson, Miss. has a per capita murder rate that is 10 times the national average.

I don’t think any American city is comparable to a “war zone”. Go to Gaza. That’s a war zone. Saying Chicago of wherever is comparable to that is stupid.

Shitholes? Sure. I’ve been to plenty of conservative shitholes though. Bakersfield, Ca being up there.

Again, America is exceptionally violent when compared to its first world peers.

Fair enough.

Tells me that Chicago and Minneapolis aren’t anywhere close to being third world countries. Remember, it wasn’t specified parts of the city so let’s remain on topic.

Yeah, St. Louis is wild. But, I’m pretty sure we know why Chicago and Minneapolis were mentioned. Blue cities + Blue states. When Hoss rolls into Indianapolis, do you think he’ll realize that its homicide rate is almost double Chicago’s? Let’s save the “well if you go into XYZ block!”, because we both know that he’s not even sniffing that part of town.

Because IrishWay didn't mention those cities. He specifically mentioned STL, CHI, and Minny. People questioned his statement, Toronto asked for specifics, so I provided the data related to that discussion.

As a whole, I agree.

Remember, it wasn’t specified parts of the city so let’s remain on topic.

I'm squarely on topic, nice try though.

If a person makes a holistic statement, it includes, by definition, the individual parts that comprise the whole. This is objectively true.

Yeah, St. Louis is wild.

So do you agree with IrishWay that StL is either like a 3rd world country, a warzone, or a shithole?

Have you ever been to the city?

But, I’m pretty sure we know why Chicago and Minneapolis were mentioned. Blue cities + Blue states.

I don't know why he mentioned them. I don't like to assume intentions. I only analyze what was actually said.

I can't say that for certain because I don't know the guy. I don't like to assume.

I've voted Democrat since I became eligible in 1993. I have no problem with FDR. I'm also not talking about the 80's. My issues are with the direction the party and, more importantly, related culture have taken as of late.

As to Reagan, whether we like him or not, he was one of the most popular presidents in history in terms of electoral count, and that's largely because the sense that liberals were starting to favor non-Whites was starting to take hold in his time. That sense has only grown dramatically over the past 45 years.

Again, why are you comparing country wide statistics to city statistics? You're less likely to be killed in areas of much lower population density, obviously. That's skewing the numbers. If you want to compare someplace like Haiti you should be using Port-au-Prince's murder rate which is more like 140 per 100k.

State gun laws can only do so much when you have people pouring them in from other shithole states like Mississippi. The majority of gun violence in places like Chicago are committed with weapons from outside the state.

Spot the difference, since sixstar can't.

What are you on? I never claimed the cities are 3rd world. Did you not read my post where I agreed with Toronto?

Re-read my posts.

Again, why are you comparing country wide statistics to city statistics?

I'm not. IrishWay did. Toronto asked for specifics. I provided the data literally linked to IrishWay's statements. It was never my comparison. Go back and read.

State gun laws can only do so much when you have people pouring them in from other shithole states like Mississippi.

So, you believe that the state of Mississippi is a shithole? Why?

What is your criteria for a state to be a shithole?

What other states are shitholes and why?

The majority of gun violence in places like Chicago are committed with weapons from outside the state.

This is true. Chicagoans rely on illegal means to obtain firearms due to stricter gun controls. The gun controls have not eliminated gun violence, but they have increased illegal gun purchases.

Banning guns will make it harder for people to get guns, but it will never fully eliminate access to guns.

What is your point?

The conservatives on the Supreme Court just collectively shrugged their shoulders on using racial profiling by law enforcement.

That’s not nothing.

This is a bad faith argument.

Yes, the supreme Court decision would be illegal if it were hyperbolically used exclusively for racial profiling. But it's not, and to believe otherwise is willful ignorance for sake of party allegiance.

Realistically, the majority of illegal immigrants that entered the US under the last administration were Hispanic, and so that is who ICE is targeting. They are trying to sidestep unnecessary bureaucracy that would take longer to build up evidence in obvious cases of illegal immigration. This ruling provides ICE greater flexibility to rapidly identify illegal immigrants.

Unfortunately, this means law abiding latino citizens might face discrimination. It sucks when good citizens are impacted by the bad decisions of a few, we can all agree on that, yeah?

Ironically, conservatives’ opposition to gun control which “punishes good citizens for bad actors” is similar to the criticism here, where law-abiding latinos face discrimination due to illegal immigration.

Does it allow racial profiling? Yes (and that's bad). But is it logical since most illegal immigrants were Hispanic? Also yes. It's messy and gray. And moderates like myself see both sides.

Does it mean conservatives hate brown people? Only if you are delusional.

This decision is definitely controversial, but three things are certain:

1) this decision is at least logically defensible
2) this does not mean that the six justices hate brown people
3) the behavior of six people does not represent the beliefs of 75 million people

The court doesn't shrug, but it granted a stay on a lower court's preliminary injunction preventing immigration officers from hanging out where illegal immigrants hang out, which translates to, "Let's hold off for a bit on holding off for a bit."

Get back on topic fellas, you’re ruining my favorite Irish envy thread…
It starts with a slight fever and dryness of the throat. When the virus penetrates the red blood cells, the victim becomes dizzy, begins to experience an itchy rash, then the poison goes to work on the central nervous system, severe muscle spasms followed by the inevitable drooling. At this point, the entire digestive system collapses accompanied by uncontrollable flatulence, until finally, the poor bastard is reduced to a quivering wasted piece of jelly.

So you voted for the white grievance party. Got it. So on brand.
I have no idea what "white grievance party" is supposed to mean. Ds are the party with a grievance against Whites. Rs are the party of Whites with a grievance. But yeah, for 32 years, I've been voting for the party that increasingly has a grievance against Whites. That's likely to change.
