I'm quite ok with cleaning up inner cities. American citizens have a right to live there and visit without being harassed by homeless, stepping over needles, assaulted or worse. No kids belong in cities any more. You can't take your family to safely visit some of our once great cities. I watched a group of 5 tweaking out by a sewer drain at 8 am today. You can't ride a train at certain times without praying you picked the right seat. American children have a right to grow up safely in a US city.

Have some standards for American cities, my God. It's embarassing to be ok with this as our new normal.

Seriously, what cities are you visiting? I go an hour into Chicago once a month. We're a family of five. Concerts, baseball games, Navy Pier, Grant Park. There aren't crackheads crawling all over The Bean or people shooting heroin at the Picasso at the Daley Center. It's gotten considerably better since post Covid in the last few years because, surprise, the Mayor and city council have put resources community based programs and law enforcement to make things better. This isn't being talked about on Fox News, Facebook or Breitbart. It's actually not being talked about much at all ANYWHERE in any media because it doesn't get clicks nor does it fit the narrative this administration wants anyone to believe.

Drove into the city today for an appointment. It's like entering another universe coming from rural America. Masks everywhere, still. I live in a small town pretty far out from a major city and I'm not sure I've seen a mask in 2025 until today.

I miss the city about as much as I'd miss a rash on my nuts.

I live rurally now (VA horse country), but near DC and don't see many masks when I'm in the city for business, visited family in Chicago (where I'm from) 2 weeks ago and no masks, just got back from Atlanta and didn't see any masks. I go to NY and Philadelphia regularly as well and don't recall seeing masks. Pittsburgh and Raleigh-Durham, no masks. Coastal cities should be the hub of covid mask wearers but I don't see it.

You do realize Chicago is enormous, right? Parts of it are rough. Others totally fine. I lived in St. Louis City for a decade and basically same (though don't leave a backpack visible in your car pretty much anywhere, that's a rookie mistake). I spent a day in/around downtown Minneapolis last summer, it was quite nice, though I will say St. Paul was a little spooky on a Saturday.
Now I live in Boston - my entire life is in the city and my kids (11 and 15) roam around unattended all the time - I actually consider that good parenting. Teaches independence, not fear.
