So Purdue dropped the series with ND today. That makes four series dropped this year to my understanding.

And over and over the media (and the playoff committee) continue to ridicule ND for its cupcake schedule. But what do you expect when the good teams (not calling Purdue good by any stretch) duck ND to avoid the additional loss? Meanwhile the media says nothing about any team not named ND's cupcake teams on their schedule.

Just seems like they are shoehorning ND into a conference at any means necessary. I understand and support ND being Independent and think it is honestly good for the sport to have independent teams (IMO Miami should be independent) traveling around the country adding a non regional game to a schedule. They do it at HS at the highest level and it adds a lot to the game.

So if ND gets held out of the playoffs due to 2 losses because they dont play anyone (in the eyes of the media), that will set the future plan. Everyone else can lose 2 game and get in as long as you arent ND. An example being Miami who has played absolutely no one, nearly lost to terrible teams, and is still going to the playoffs with a win or a loss to ND.

I firmly believe if Notre Dame beats Miami without Toney, and we win out, the committee will still find a reason to leave us out.

The last two seasons we would've benefited from being in a conference.
Next year we do not.

With 24 teams, the need to join has passed unless we go 9-3 or worse.

Suppose this happens, and I don't believe for a moment it will, I will personally throw the first Molotov cocktail.

I shaved my head 20 years ago when Arrelious Been signed with Illinois. I give my word on this one, too.

Its a conspiracy to get ND in a conference.
Shitty coordinating of a conspiracy if Purdue drops ND but Illinois picks them up. That's like when Americanized Italians started running mob. Unorganized, disloyal, chaos, no code.

SC drops ND, BYU fills the spot. That I get. Purdue dropping ND only to see their neighbors to the west fill the void? Not smart.

That's Kevin Warren running the Big Ten.

After the BS yesterday, putting us at #11, as well as leaving us out last season, I believe anything is possible.
need some more tinfoil for your hat
we win out we will be top 3 and possibly #1 and they try and leave us out? That is the end of the committee and everyone on it will pay big time as being called bought and paid for. ESPN would in the end make a phone call to the committee and tell them to put ND in.

Keeping us out last year + USC and other teams dropping us is 100% a conspiracy (by the textbook definition) to force us to join a conference.

Leaving it as a 12 team playoff would have helped the conspirators in this regard, but there was also too much money to leave on the table by not expanding. So, they'll continue to have schools squeeze us by dropping us and/or not scheduling us.

And, although a 10-2 ND is probably always making the expanded field I'd bet all the money that a 2 loss ND is getting the worse possible seed of the 2 loss teams (and maybe even be behind the 3 loss teams) and a 1 loss ND is getting the worse possible seed of those schools (and might even be behind 2 loss teams).

Yes, and we're out at 9-3.

The way we will join a conference is if the ACC gets picked apart. We cannot have even worse schedules.

The Big Ten was blackballing us to gain support for a 24 team playoff. This has all but been acknowledged. Since they got it, I don’t think the scheduling conspiracy extends beyond that.

Meanwhile IU can beat every team on their schedule by a FG or in double OT, lose to the only team with a pulse (when they had a QB) and they are still the darling.

I don't think there's that much appetite for the Big10 or SEC to expand more. That's more pieces of pie to share and how much extra money is a league getting by adding Miami? Is it enough to offset the fact that there's now 1 more piece of pie? I have my doubts.

I think the most realistic scenarios are:

1) The "haves" get tired of having to subsidize the "have not's" that are the lower tier of the power conferences (Rutgers, et. al.) and form a super league that we are forced to join)

2) Similarly to #1 some of top schools realize that with a 24 team playoff they don't need conferences if they become "independent" and form a coalition with other independents to schedule each other and sell their rights.

Either way, I think there's at least one more seismic shift coming.

One reason they may want to expand is the more teams the more cut that they’ll get from the playoff. I believe the Big Ten, obviously wants into Florida. The SEC probably doesn’t care to expand again, but if forced to, I think they would.

The Big Ten loves to expandl

I’m indifferent about joining a conference. Because our schedule has been so poor lately that independence has become an indifference for me.

11-1, they're in.

Don't give a shit about seeding. Great teams win. You want to shut up the haters, change the narrative, win your ballgames. Don't wind up in the margin for error like BYU.

Motto this year was Leave No Doubt. BYU leaves doubt. It's all or nothing from here out.

I don't think it's a conspiracy, I think it's a lot of teams looking at what Cignetti did and how the committee works and trying to lighten up their schedules.

The more interesting scheduling conspiracy os that *if* the PCSA passes in its current form there is a group of ACC schools that are all going to leave and go Independent (Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC have already put their names on it). If that happens, I would expect Cal/Stanford to go back to the new PAC12... they hate being in ACC.

Then you're going to have a scheduling agreement between all those schools and ND in the short term, plus ND is locking in BYU for the next three years. But right now, it's not looking like the PCSA is likely to pass with the election results being what they were.

I'm also not sure -- given the public comments from Big Ten coaches, which are shocking to hear -- that the 24 team playoff "presented by ESPN" is long for this world. If it is, I wouldn't be surprised to see it move away from a committee to something else that is transparent and objective.

How often is the #11 team favored over the #1 team by 7 points. Have the committee explain that and a head to head comparison of the stats and eye test with Indiana especially the offense and QB positions. USC is going to beat Indiana just like they did to Ohio State.

`Cig is a much better coach so I would not bet on that

This is where I'm at. I think the larger conspiracy is that the super league is still very much in play. The quickest way to that end imo would be to force ND to break their deal with the ACC (by docking them for their ACC schedule, leaving them out of CFP, freezing ND out from scheduling, etc.). I believe once ND breaks their ACC deal, it may create a wave of the top ACC schools (Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC) doing the same. Once the ACC falls and their top teams come crawling to join the Big10 and the SEC and those conferences say no to keep the Rutgers, Purdues, Arkansas, etc. of their conferences, the top teams in both conferences will say, screw it, let's create this super league for the reason you say in #1 above. The top Big12 teams will have no choice but to join the super league if they can as well.
