So Purdue dropped the series with ND today. That makes four series dropped this year to my understanding.

And over and over the media (and the playoff committee) continue to ridicule ND for its cupcake schedule. But what do you expect when the good teams (not calling Purdue good by any stretch) duck ND to avoid the additional loss? Meanwhile the media says nothing about any team not named ND's cupcake teams on their schedule.

Just seems like they are shoehorning ND into a conference at any means necessary. I understand and support ND being Independent and think it is honestly good for the sport to have independent teams (IMO Miami should be independent) traveling around the country adding a non regional game to a schedule. They do it at HS at the highest level and it adds a lot to the game.

So if ND gets held out of the playoffs due to 2 losses because they dont play anyone (in the eyes of the media), that will set the future plan. Everyone else can lose 2 game and get in as long as you arent ND. An example being Miami who has played absolutely no one, nearly lost to terrible teams, and is still going to the playoffs with a win or a loss to ND.
You don’t need a conspiracy to explain entirely rational behavior. There’s increasingly no upside to playing ND for teams in super conferences. It hurts their playoff odds and distracts from competing for their conference, especially after the first few weeks.

Correct but it does paint ND in a worse light schedule wise. When the big(ger) teams drop off, you replace with what you can find and lately, it has been low middle level competition. Then you have the playoff committee and media saying that you play no one so you dont deserve rankings nor a playoff slot

As Prister stated, there’s now no doubt the Committee is hell bent on punishing ND for their independenc. Keep in mind. 70% of last year’s committee returned this year in the same capacit. So the bias & the talking points were already baked in.

Meanwhile IU can beat every team on their schedule by a FG or in double OT, lose to the only team with a pulse (when they had a QB) and they are still the darling.
To winners, go the spoils. Don’t like it, quit pissing down your leg in big regular season games.

LOL, good gravy, man, walk back from the ledge. If we go 11-1, we will be a top-4 seed.

The reason we will be a top four seed in this scenario is to secure first round hosting revenue for a conference team. Tickets alone are $20M+ of revenue, ripple effects of season ticket sales and donations are easily double that.. Easy to imagine a $50M net benefit to a school for hosting a playoff game before you even get into the local economic impact. SEC took down three of them last year (Ole Miss, TAMU, Oklahoma and Oregon) - even when they lose they $win$.

16 team football conferences with no championship game are nothing more than a scheduling coalition. Would love to see ND promoting independence and entice a few programs to stop subsidizing Rutgers and Arkansas.

I figured out why Bama is ranked #5. It has little to do with resume and everything to do with their remaining schedule. They play at LSU Saturday. I would put a large bet on LSU winning that game, even if it takes heavy SEC ref involvement. Then Bama plays @Vandy, Chatanooga, and Auburn. Bama will still be in position to make it with 3 losses and LSU will pop up in the top 12 with looming matchups with Texas and Tenn. This ensures 3 out of those 4 teams make the playoffs and gives the SEC the 5 teams they are looking for.

Put in an agreement with the Big 10 or the SEC that says ND plays their schedule and those games count as conference games for their traditional teams but ND can't play in the conference championship and maintains their independence.

None of these conferences are interested unless that get ND money. ND should hold out until their NBC deal is over. Then make ESPN pay them a gazillion dollars for media rights. Suddenly, ND's independence won't be a bad thing.

The last two seasons we would've benefited from being in a conference.
Next year we do not.

With 24 teams, the need to join has passed unless we go 9-3 or worse.
My conspiracy is that they don't mind Notre Dame missing the playoffs, as it would encourage Notre Dame to support the 24 team playoff. I guess it is kind of a heads I win, tails you lose thing with the CFP structure and any team that get left out, from ESPNs POV.
