I have a gripe with ESPN. I know star ratings don't matter to many of you and that's fine but I wanted to take a second and show you guys something I noticed. All these rankings are according to ESPN.

ND 2011 Class

15. Aaron Lynch
36. Matthew Hegarty
42. Ishaq Williams
65. DaVaris Daniels
77. Ben Koyack
90. Stephon Tuitt
123. Anthony Rabasa

OSU 2011 Class

30. Steve Miller
46. Curtis Grant
69. Doran Grant
80. Braxton Miller
81. Ryan Shazier
106. Evan Spencer
127. Michael Bennett

That's the comparison of the classes within the ESPNU 150. Notre Dame has the upper hand player for player all the way down the line. Outside the ESPNU 150 looks like this:

ND 2011 Class (including rating)

Everett Golson 80
Ben Councell 79
Eilar Hardy 79
Troy Niklas 79
Kyle Brindza 79
George Atkinson 79
Josh Atkinson 78
Jarrett Grace 78
Tony Springmann 78
Nick Martin 78
Jalen Brown 78
Cam McDaniel 77
Brad Carrico 77
Matthias Farley 77
Connor Hanratty 76
Chase Hounshell 76

OSU 2011 Class (including rating)

Jeremy Cash 80
Jeff Heuerman 80
Nick Vannett 80
Brian Bobek 79
Kenny Hayes 79
Chase Ferris 79
Ejuan Price 79
Joel Hale 79
Devin Smith 78
Chris Carter Jr 78
Tommy Brown 78
Ron Tanner 78
Cardale Jones 78
Connor Crowell 78
DerJuan Gambrell 77
Antonio Underwood 75
Bryce Haynes 73

ND signed one more player and maintained higher rankings throughout. How in the world does Ohio State finish with the number 7 class and Notre Dame the number 9 class? Thoughts....?

ND has a -.72345 quotient. It is kinda like a double secret probation thing. No one knows about it until they spring it on you.

The guys at ESPN are clearly just projecting these players higher because they want to buy their gold pants in a couple of years. It's called networking.

ND has higher projected players. That's what I'm confused about. ND brought in better players according to ESPN's own rankings. I'm not complaining about the fact that they under valued our players... again. We brought in better players and finished with a worse class. Please let me say that I understand that rankings mean nothing to a lot of you. So you can save the "We'll settle it on the field," and "Star raings mean nothing to me" crap responses. If you don't care don't waste your time posting.

I don't know doesn't make sense. The only thing I can tell for certain is that you have entirely too much time on your hands. I think we will just have to wait and see. I'm sure everyone on here is really happy with the results of our recruiting this season. Only disappointment to me was losing Bennett to OU. I think we have a good team this year and this just builds toward the future and possibly the present.

I count 14 4-stars for OSU, and only 9 for us. Although the numerical grades are comparable, this discrepancy must give them the edge. In particular, only one of our five commits who scored a 79 got a fourth star (councell), while 4/5 of OSU's 79 commits earned a fourth.

ND's top 3 prospects all play the same position. I'm guessing class rankings are determined by not only quality of commits, but also diversity of positions and such. That's just my thought as to why they're ranked how they are.

I think this guy got it right.

Who gives a flying leap what our class ranking ends up!!!!! All we should care about is filling roster holes with highly talented kids. Did we do that??? YES!! Do we have difference makers on D?? YES!!!

So, everyone just take a deep breath and wait until spring ball starts. Last I checked, NOBODY gets an extra win or extra TD because they were ranked a spot or two higher than another team. Further, remember that these rankings do not take into account what positions of need a team fills and whether a team took too many guys at a position.

Think back to 2006 for ND. Part of the reason we were ranked so high is the fact we took 3 big name QB's. Last I checked, only ONE QB can play at a time. So, those rankings get a little muddy when you consider those 3 4-star QB's count the same a 3 4-star DL which could all be playing at the same time. So, what relax and enjoy the fact Kelly is getting it done on the recruiting trail.

I couldn't care less, but it is funny coming from the Network that consistently brings up how our classes somehow get "bumped up" ratings wise by rivals and scout just to sell subscriptions... when we all know almost all of these kids are rated before they commit to ANY school and most hardly change after

Set up a game 2 & 3 years from now (home and home series) and let it be decided on the field! If these players are any good, most should be in the 2-deep for each team by then!

Did you not read my initial post directed at people like you. If you don't give a "flying leap" what our class looks like then why post?

Here is the thing. Yes, typically the higher rated recruits are likely to play better. That being said, much of it has to do with not only the athlete, but with the system and personalities of the program they attend. It will never be the same, because the programs are different and offers too many variables. It is almost like he NFL draft, where a person blossoms in one program and struggles in another.

I guess my ancient eyes must be crossing, but in the opening post the statement about us signing one more than OSU is exactly backwards to my count [ND=16; OSU=17], as well as the line-by-line comparison of athlete number rankings. I admit to fraility on these matters but if my simple count is accurate, then the added player is all OSU needs to get the marginally higher rank. I will gladly bow to those with a better insight.
