Hey guys and gals, I am going to be in Columbus one day as it's a good halfway point to Myrtle Beach. We need to stop because the boys (3&5) would never take the whole drive. I guess my main question would be what is (are) the best one or two things to do in Columbus for a family with kids ages 3&5? If you want to throw in a kid friendly restaurant that serves a good local beer that would be awesome too. Thanks in advance.

I was going to say if you take IrishTP's advice and stop at COSI, which is definitely a cool place for the kids and the family, you could have lunch at the first Wendy's restaurant across the street from there....but it looks like they had to close it down a few years ago.

Thanks ulukin, my oldest thought COSI looked awesome on the website so that is definitely going to be on the agenda. I can't believe the first Wendy's would close down, don't people enjoy a good Baconator around there??? Thanks to you and everyone else for the information, my wife wanted to spend forever looking for stuff online but I knew you guys would be better. Thanks again everyone.

Yeah, it was always a nice place to stop for lunch if you were in that area downtown. According to their website, I guess business downtown was slow at that Wendy's, and there was going to be a high cost to renovate the place, so they just opted to move any historical items to their Dublin headquarters and shut the place down. I'm a sucker for locations like that, I've been to the first KFC in Corbin, KY as well and a few others.

Can you imagine how hoppin' downtown would be if Wendy's, The Limited, and Bob Evans moved their headquarters there? Oh lawd.

I guess COSI is going to get parts of the zoo? That's some pretty brilliant teaming up.

I just remember in 3rd or 4th grade we took a field trip to COSI. They had a breast cancer setup there so you could feel what a breast feels like.....Needless to say all of us guys in the class spent half our time at that display and the helium tank part haha.

Last night I met GKIrish and a few of his friends out. All were really cool guys.

I think the bar we went to was called High Pint? Awesome bar, really big. Then we went to Club Sway which was pretty intense, lol.

Of course, we ended the night with a shot in the name of IrishPat. Good time!

Not sure I like where this joke is going (even though I participated) so I will say that I had never been there before and someone knew the DJ so we went.

Wait, what exactly are you admitting to 'participating' in?

I wasnt trying to joke about sexual orientation or anything. I have been told that place is considered a place where the gay community frequents. I havent been there, but it looks like a poppin place everytime Ive been by it.

On a drunken foray in college we ended up at a local club known for its "homosexual clientele." This is exactly how the County Prosecutor was quoted in the paper. We went with an open mind, in our Halloween costumes. We were the splash sensation of the evening. Couldn't buy a drink, but our glasses were never empty. Two of the four were outstanding members of the school's championship basketball team, at 7'0" and 6'9" they stood out in the crowd, never mind they were dressed as the Jolly Green Giant and the Tinman, and the third of our fourth was a great tennis player. He was a little guy. Went as the Hamburgler.

He was the only one that didn't have a great time. He felt a little uncomfortable. He had a fairy princess trying to start a conversation with him all night. (He was the biggest womanizer of the bunch, guy was legendary. We all found it mirthful.) We had a great time, never had a problem from that day forward with anyone because of their "sexuality." Just never made it an issue.

The rest of the evening was a blur. The next time I ran into them they told me they had been called to the AD's office. He told them reports had come in. They explained that he was going on about their visibility in the community, etc., and that he was working into it. I asked them what they did to get out of it, because I would have heard if anything serious had happened, and they started laughing. One told me the other said that we spent part of the night partying with the AD's son who was a regular there. Ended the conversation apparently. And so it goes . . .

The gay bars in Columbus ate pretty cool, I've been to a few with my roommate for events. There's one where a particular drag queen frequents that is a little too much, but I've never had a bad time at the one next to Haiku.

My roommate actually led an effort to get known gay porn recruiters banned from these bars, apparently Columbus is one of the biggest cities for recruiters to fly to and offer dudes money to basically ruin their lives. It was a uniquely humanitarian movement I found myself slightly involved in senior year haha

It was pretty sweet. Felt like the clubs I'm used to in NYC. Good music and girls making out in the back. Not the kind of environment I prefer when I'm trying to get hammered as drinks are expensive but still fun.

I just moved to Columbus recently as well and still haven't found the perfect bar. I somehow got convinced to pay a $10 cover at sway though a couple weeks ago. I lasted maybe 15 minutes.

What kind of bar are you looking for

Something with a large indoor bar area that people can sit at if they want as well as a sizable outdoor patio/bar. Music that's you can easily talk over. Cheap beers and games of some sort(golden tee, buck hunter, etc.) are always a plus.

Winking lizard, Gallo's Tap Room on Bethel

Gallo's has shuffle board, a couple pool tables and golden tee plus a couple dart boards you can use before it gets busy. They sponsored my softball team for years, had some good times there.

Yep there's two of them, one on Bethel, one at 270 and 23.

As I remember there were five, three in Columbus and of the originals, two left in the Cleveland area. There used to be one right in the Twinsburg - Macedonia area, and I know that's gone. But I cannot remember all the rest, nor the exact current locations. But you can google them.

I'm looking to play as much indoor, pick up basketball as possible. I've done this forever, but the days of hopping across the street to my University every other night of the week are sadly gone.

If anyone has any idea where there's men's league where randoms can sign up or go to play semi-organized basketball, please let me know.

Also, looking to play some poker, but I'm not ready to go to a casino weekly. I'm tough, but not that tough.

Any info on hoops, hollar!
