I love hearing about Western history (being a history grad myself), but come on now. That's just a plain boldfaced ignorant lie.

No one is trying to diminish the unholy, horrid treatment of Native Americans by the US government or by white settlers. The point was that only in relation to a couple-few Oklahoma landruns, there's only a tenuous direct connection to genocide of OK's indigenous peoples.

Good gawd we're a little touchy. I bet you're great at parties.

I don't think they are distinguishing the trail of tears and the Oklahoma land runs

Trail of Tears, around 1830
Oklahoma Land Run, 1889

They are two separate events.

So........do we have anyone going to the game?

I'll be there! Going with my wife, my best friend and his wife. We live about 3 hours from Norman (in Pryor, OK). We are heading down Friday after work and I want to get there early Saturday. However, I am at the mercy of my buddy and his wife (not ND fans, Vol fans, grew up in Tennessee).

I'm curious how ND fans will be received at the game. I grew up in South Bend and have lived in Oklahoma for nearly 10 years now. Not many ND fans here, nor do most Okie's care for ND. Some I've talked to can appreciate their history and what they have meant to college football. Most love to see the Irish lose. So you can imagine my ten years here have not been the most exciting in terms of college football.

I've been to a few games in Norman to watch OU play Tulsa, Texas A&M and Baylor in the early to mid 2000's. The Boomer Sooner song gets real old, especially if they are racking up points and first downs. A lot like USC's song their band plays on first downs.

Should be fun regardless

People respect the matchup and the magnitude of the game. Don't act like aggy, and you'll probably find yourself with free beer.

I have actually enjoyed the three OU games I've been too. And did find the fans to be a lot of fun and for the most part respectful to the opposing team fans. Every fan base has it idiots who insist on causing trouble, ND, OU, every team. The only place I have been where I din't feel welcome was Purdue. With that said, I really enjoy talking with other fan bases, especially knowledgeable ones about their team/conference.

As for me, there will be no problems. I enjoy the college atmosphere too much to waste my time on the 5% of idiots who are looking to stir up trouble. Thanks OUMallen

Yeah, I was just about to say that there is a LOT of "Notre Lame" stuff. Which is, ahem, kinda lame. Have to expect more from these future leaders of America.

Kind of sick of the ESPN lines. Fowler, "will Notre Dame be unmasked by OU"? "Will they be exposed for who they really are"? ESPN is no different than Fox News or MSNBC with their blatant bias, in this case against ND and for the $EC. I want the Irish to win even more now and I didn't think that was possible. FESPN.

Is it normal for the top 4 teams to be profiled so much for NC discussion? It seems like in the past it was normally top 5. Is it because ND is 5 that it's restricted to 4, or am I just paranoid about my team may not be getting the shine it should get in the top 5....

Exactly. I have a feeling that if say LSU was #5 all the talk would be about the top 5. I also get the feeling that if we were ranked #4 all the talk would be about the top 3. Oh f**k Chris Fowler for bringing up us just barely beating BYU.

IDK, but we can't really complain about a lack of coverage. ND has been mentioned far more often on ESPN the last few days than any other college football team.

ND won't get respect until they win a NC...if tonight goes our way it'll be pointed out that ksu beat em and we still haven't played a truly elite team. Every week we hear "if nd wins they will earn our respect" but all it does when we win is allow the talking heads to bad mouth our opponents for losing to an "overrated" nd, saying all our wins were against teams having "off years". Get used to it because respect is not coming...maybe not even if we have the crystal football at the end of the year in our trophy case.

Screw them, we know who nd is....and we know nd is for real!

I think you're paranoid and grossly overstating the issue. In fairness, people that have talked about ND as being overrated the last decade have been right. This year, I think the ESPN-types have been pretty complimentary regarding Notre Dame, and if they win tonight I will challenge you to find someone who seriously tries to devalue it by saying Oklahoma really isn't any good (not including Mark May, who is only doing schtick and isn't serious).

So at the risk of talking them up more...they've decided to make the BCS rankings into a top 4 discussion rather than the usual mid season top 5 discussion. Meanwhile making attempts to devalue our record by bringing up the BYU score in a discussion about Oregon St. and throwing in a jab every time our win over Stanford is mentioned....Paranoia is a beyotch.

Just wait and see...they devalued Michigan and Stanford and every other game we have played. They will devalue this one as well. Not everyone, but with a win you'll still hear the word "overrated". I'm not worried though because I could care less about their opinion.
