He's been there for 10 years. Everyone seems happy with the relationship.

In reference to UNC, I don't see him as a fit.
I didn't mean in reference to UNC. Their fans would revolt.

If Chuck is looking for a new challenge that offers more opportunity to move into the P4, then it's probably time to look for some greener pastures. Fresno, Southern Miss, and Tulsa are all pretty interesting G5 opportunities with better chances to turn heads. Perhaps I am underrating Miami of Ohio's foundation for success or Chuck's midwestern-ness.

You'd think so.

Liberty is paying him $4M a year. UNC was paying Mack $5M a year. There is some logic to the move on several levels.

Also coached at Coastal Carolina (obviously) and Charleston Southern. Has ties to the Carolinas and is a known commodity there.

It certainly fits.

His career has been centralized in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. In terms of regional resume bias, Temple would be out of the comfort zone let alone Fresno, Southern Miss and Tulsa.

We'll see. I always thought he'd be a great fit for someplace like Illinois, Indiana or Purdue.

He can coach ball. No question. Some baggage due to some recruiting stuff a while back but he can coach.

He's a Tennessee native, so maybe there is an out clause there should Heupel falter down the line.

I like Chadwell a lot. That Coastal Carolina team was a great Covid memory for sure.

Wow.

He's 65 and this is going to be their worst season in 10 years. They've lost their last five bowl games after he started 11-1 in bowls, including 6 in a row after he took over for Urban.

I think we are still seeing pre NIL coaches cycling out as they become disgruntled by a system that doesn’t work and has/is ruining the sport.

If Gino leaves for an OC job, I'll take Andy Ludwig at QB coach to replace him.

It would be glorious on so many levels.

UNC should be a great job. Good school, beautiful campus and facilities, and close to a lot of talent. I’m shocked that program hasn’t done better.

It's a basketball school. Plain and simple. Their highest AP ranking was 3rd in 1948. There isn't anything terribly shocking about it when you look back at their history.

They joined the ACC in 1953 and have won it 5 times, most recently in 1980. They're probably more well known for their men's and women's soccer programs after basketball before they are for football.

When you think of Lawrence Taylor, you think NY Giants, not UNC. The fact LT is a Tar Heel goes lost on most people.

Please don’t ruin my day by bringing up anything Giants 🤣. I know the history and agree, I just really think they could be more competitive in football. It has a ton of potential with the right guy

I think you’re right……some of them just won’t be able to transition to the new era. Saban being the most notable example.

I got a few friends that are donors at Utah. They will definitely be going to their HCIW, as far as they know. It's in writing that's pretty binding. Whit's contract actually says that he stays on as a consultant and golf partner with the donors for I think close to $1 million a year if/when he leaves for a few years. There are worse retirement plans.

However, I know the donors are worried that there will be a mass exodus of recruits and players if Whit left.

Is anyone else surprised that UNC didn’t just let Brown resign? I would think someone of his stature would be given that opportunity.
This was my first thought. Mack Brown, for better or worse, has been a staple at UNC for a long time across his two tenures. While I think he's overhyped and got lucky with Vince Young when he was at Texas, he's one of UNC's best coaches all time (Which doesn't say much since they're a basketball school). Still, I'm surprised they didn't let him save face and step down rather than be fired. Reminds me a lot of Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee let him step down and take a job in the athletic department. I always figured UNC would do something similar given the history.

According to reports, UNC asked him to retire/step down and he said no. Thus, the firing.
