Any coach brought in will be selected on a set of criteria BK has refined, just like he has done with recruits. There are plenty of X & O guys who know what they're doing, but can they recruit? How will they mesh with the rest of the staff? How good of a teacher are they? How do they handle the players?

I apologize if this has already been discussed. What's the general consensus on bringing back Harry Hiestand, and moving Quinn maybe to tight ends? I just don't think you can pass on HH with the success he had, but I could be wrong.

I’m pretty sure by HH returning, it would force a promotion to the OC position by someone on the staff. I’m not confident that HH, nor anyone else on the staff could take this team to that next level. It’s also a situation where Brian Kelly has recently (finally!!!) stated that he wants to place more emphasis on recruiting. HH is not believed to be too interested in recruiting.

I don't speak for everyone, but that scenario is my dream.

I understand what your saying. I assumed Tommy would bump to OC/QB or co OC/TE with Quinn. Taylor at RB. HH back at OL. Alexander at WR. I understand if HH isn't the best recruiter but does he really need to do more than point to the All Pro team and show 3 players that he coached, at one position.

I'm sorry if this has been cleared up somewhere else but why is HH getting such a bad rep is a recruiter.

In his time here I've never been disappointed with the OL haul with maybe a slight exception to his final year here but I don't think we were needing a bunch of numbers that year?

I believe we were light on #s a couple of times largely due to HH IDing who he wanted and if he didn't get them, he'd take a pass on the rest. I could be way off though... Bottom line, he's not a dog on the trail like most of this staff now.

Add the fact that Kelly puts in as little effort as any top head coach in the country

In 2015 the OL class was Trevor Ruhland, Tristen Hoge (who transferred after a year), and Tillery (who never even practiced on offense while at ND). 15 was always gonna be a small class after large 13 and 14 classes, tho they should have reevaluated after all the injuries.

Hiestand followed that class up in 2016 with Tommy Kraemer, Liam Eichenberg, and Parker Boudreaux (who transferred after a year).

So in 2 classes he basically had 4 OL, once Hoge transferred. That's really unacceptable and led partially to the line struggles last year.

Dude, the hyperbole on this is getting ridiculous. You have absolutely no idea how much effort the other 100 coaches put in. There were 2 prospects that said 2 other HC’s talked to them more and now every HC in the country does. Maybe, we should ask AJ Henning the same questions? That is unless the goal is only to make a bias slam piece and act like it’s the only information out there.

Prepare to hear everyone make similar comments for the next 3 months at least. Over on ISD it was even more unbearable (I saw one guy who kept posting every like two minutes in the thread about it, I don't even think he was responding to anyone at a certain point). Could Kelly be more involved? Sure. But I think it is over-exaggerated.

This reminds me of a certain scene from Tommy Boy -- "once during the war I visited a prostitute, and my life has been a living hell ever since."

Penn State hires Phil Trautwein (former BC OL Coach) to coach OL. He was who I was hoping BK would hire after Hiestand left.

I'm guessing he's not who you wanted to replace Hiestand. The guy who was at BC when Hiestand left was Justin Frye who was hired as OL coach for UCLA and bumped to OC.

Trautwein was in his first year after being a GA when Hiestand left.

Of course I could be wrong. Maybe you wanted Trautwein, but many people were wanting Frye and Trautwein was not a name I remember hearing at all.

He's not "hip" (trendy). No Twitter, doesn't follow recruits, old school guy. Also been rumored by the beat that he doesn't "like to travel". Basically, he's a coach first kind of guy (which is why his move to NFL made sense at the time).

To be clear, I have no idea how well HH is/was as a recruiter. I personally liked the OL classes that were brought in. However, every year our OL is supposed to be a strength (as it should be), it never really pans out. That’s including under HH. It’s like buying a new mustang and never stepping on the gas. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see him come back. He’s put some good product on the field. But, I’m not sure Tommy Rees is ready to be the guy.

Yes! Thank you. It was Frye. My bad.

Good for him, I guess, but was kind of looking forward to him being the next head coach of Notre Dame. I suppose anything can happen in three years though.

Wow I really thought he was going to the Giants, although I wonder if the media presence is a turn off.

Rhule will break the bank with a deal worth upwards of $60 million with the potential to earn more than that with success over a seven-year stretch, Schefter reported on Tuesday.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Panthers are giving former Baylor HC Matt Rhule a seven-year - seven year - deal worth $60 million that with incentives could be worth up to $70 million, per league sources.</p>— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1214583051478601728?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 7, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Was discussed at length on the II podcast and yes it is an issue and no it isn't just these 2 prospects. The fact that it's being discussed at all means that it probably is an issue.

Then give me other specific examples where we missed on a recruit because of Kelly’s lack of recruiting? Details?

Edit: I also find it funny that you didn’t come back to address your completely reckless use of hyperbole. Less than any top coach in America, haha.
