What is most annoying to me, is that I honestly think he'd call a different game up 11 if we were playing FSU or a top-10 team as opposed to Northwestern. I just think BK thought he had the game under wraps and pretty much paid 0 attention to the clock cause he didn't think a comeback was possible. That sounds stupid, but I swear its true.

2010: Navy, Tulsa
2011: USF, Michigan, somewhat USC
2012: Really just Bama
2013: Michigan, Pitt
2014: Northwestern, and ASU to some degree

BK has 1-2 WTF games every year

Unless, you don't think the above games are "bad"

I'd say Pitt and Purdue, not Bama, were the WTF games of 2012.

This!!! This was it.

So USC had the ball on second down with 1:30 left, versus 1:36 for us. Ball not quite as deep into Cal territory. On second down, they called a "running play" that was set up for Allen to run laterally and then go down after having wasted a little bit of time. And then they had Kessler take a loss on 3rd down. Game over, 45+ seconds off the clock for each play. Kelly could've done the same thing or just straight kneeled it giving NW the ball at their 30 with 6-10 seconds max on the clock.

Kelly will NEVER do that. So if you want him to, just come to grips with the disappointment now. He is a gambler. He takes risks. He pisses me off at times, too. But, so far, I would not trade him for another coaching search. I think he's the right guy for the job, mistakes and all.

Sure, that's a valid opinion. I vehemently disagree though. I'm fine with being a "gambler" when there is logic to gamble. When you have the W in the bag, gambling with that sure victory is absurd IMO.

I don't know why it's so hard for us to find a Chip Kelly or Patterson or Snyder or the like that can both run a disciplined/overachieving team AND be a great in game manager that doen't make statistical blunders.

For Kelly being a "gambler" he has a serious propensity to kick field goals in situations where the math says to go for it, and that's infuriating to me when he turns around and goes #YOLO running the ball when he could kneel it out.

So you think we should fire Kelly?

Not unless there is a better alternative. Are there better alternatives we could get?

I don't think so. But the definition of "better alternative" is kind of subjective to what is important to each individual, don't you think?

I don't think ND should fired Kelly but someone above needs to let it be known that losing to 4-6 NW at home is NOT acceptable.

I'm sure that is how Jack's conversation will go...very blunt, to the point.

Kelly has had better days...

He is one of the best 8, possibly 5, college football coaches in the country.

List starts with Nick Saban...everybody and their brother fill it in from there.

- Bryan Kelly

for all the BK-haters that are down on BK, count me as one that is down on Golson...ND is doomed with him as a QB, he'll get you 300+ yards on offense and make it look like he is doing well, then he'll gut you with turnover after turnover and make it impossible to win games. Golson makes coaches, and the run-game look bad, I am convinced that ND will never win big games with him in the game; he doesnt have it in his make-up. close, but no cigar.

ND is doomed because we have to deal with this guy for 2 more years...NFL? after next year? ...don't make me laugh, ND should be so lucky for him to leave after next year

Snyder, Patterson, Stoops, Briles... then a whole bunch of people you could make a case for being comparable to Kelly like Malzahn, Graham, Shaw, Mora, Sumlin, Richt, Miles, Strong, Peterson, ...

How many of those can you get?

Alright, I hear you, but you're point stopped here...

Those guys you mentioned, besides Stoops (LMAO), who is your choice?

I'll take Kelly.

Perhaps already mentioned, but maybe Kelly wanted to run the clock out by running plays as opposed to the kneel (thus the handoff to Cam) because he was deathly afraid to snap the ball to Brindza for a punt. He said post game Brindza had lost his confidence, thus the reason for the 2 pt try. Just spitballing.

That is BS.

He is just covering his ass.

It was an XP. Just block it up like you should usually. Jesus, this is 2010 all over again.

I'd take Patterson or Briles over Kelly. Patterson has shown a great eye for talent (albeit from JUCO) and that he can win at the highest level. Briles is in the Chip Kelly mold of "I'm smarter than you." Everything Briles does at Baylor he could easily do at ND... we'd win 10+ games every year.

OK, there is two with good justification. I'd take Urban over BK as well.

But we have a good coach...

I'm not sure we would be able to field a team, each year, with Briles. This year, we had the "Frozen Five". I think, with Briles, we might have the "Frozen Fifty", each and every year.

I was thinking that, but it's just hard to complain about a win at the end of a day. Especially cause those two came after Ireland trip and OU game.

Thoughts on Jim Harbaugh?

Ehhhhh... he worries me. Very easy to hate, rough around the edges. At a place like ND, he'd probably flame out.

He worries me for the simple fact he jumps around. 3 - 5 years seems to be his shelf life...then something different.

That's it? We were satisfied with our performances against Purdue, Syracuse, Navy, Stanford, and North Carolina?

I've seen exactly three games where we DIDN'T completely shit the bed in one or more facets of the game. Florida State, Rice, and Michigan. The "a win is a win" attitude around here overshadows how poorly we've played in some of our wins. Our crap showing and failure to destroy teams like Cuse should have made it clear that a game like we saw yesterday was only a matter of time.

I agree. I probably give him some leeway for close wins against average teams cause losing those games was becoming the norm from 1997-2009.

Crazy last month. 1-3 with a crap win over Navy. Very Weis-ish end to this season.

I can definitely see that but he does get results and getting results at Stanford is no easy place. The only way talking about a coach becomes a reality is if BK goes to the NFL and I just don't see that happening.

No way he leaves the NFL to coach at ND. Unless he's like ultra Catholic and into self immolation.

I completely agree. The talk was if any Harbaugh would coach at Michigan it was gonna be John and not Jim. I was just curious what some think of him.

I think Jim is perfect for a place like Stanford where they have no fans or demanding boosters or media attention... he can do his thing and get results and that's the end of it.

In a "fish bowl" type place I could see him flaming out... Michigan though would coddle him so hard it might work.

I believe I saw a report that said his wife prefers the West Coast. With Oakland shitting the bed again, I could see them matchup.
