Why not make Golden head coach? Recruiting?Charisma, likeability, diversity and good looks are not enough to keep your job at ND. Man up and can your buddy as opposed to going down with the ship. Offense outside of a Pitt team that gave up has been running on fumes and leaning on the D. Golden has earned a shot at HC somewhere again and has auditioned better in two years than Freeman did in his one.
Yeah he’s not right for HC but I’d pay him$3m as DCWhy not make Golden head coach? Recruiting?
If it's true that ND won't pay HC more than some liberal professor, then overpaying on assistants is the playbook. Get a CEO type HC who can recruit (MF) and have top 3 OC and DC every single year, fitting our self-limiting "rule" and still setting up football for success.Yeah he’s not right for HC but I’d pay him$3m as DC

But naturally we do the opposite and shop from the bargain bin even for assistants.
End of the day, Rees left for more money, Elko left for more money. If these are the examples to use ND pays top dollar, it further strengthens my point. You know that it's a well known truth that Tommy Rees was one of top paid OCs here. Marcus Freeman was offered more than LSU, and Al Golden is one of highest paid DCs.
ND also matched A&M's offer to Elko before he got greedy and tried to dip a second time.
ND not paying for assistants is just not true.
No he didn't.End of the day, Rees left for more money, Elko left for more money. If these are the examples to use ND pays top dollar, it further strengthens my point.
I though LSU actually outbid ND for MF but BK got MF to sign anyway (unsure if this is particular one is fact).

It does but it doesn't fix the missed throws.Replacing Parker fixes pretty much everything.
Rees is making less at Bama? Elko took less to go to A&M?Wrong.
Can someone share Sam’s stats the last 5 games?
Duke
Louisville
Usc
Pitt
Clemson
I’d like to see how they compare to Pyne’s last year or Coan’s from the year before.
This guy somehow made the top 10 finalist list for college CFB! Guess who’s finishing #10 on that list?
Guy seems like a good fella but he’s been a total bust. Our record would. It be any worse if we started Buchner, Pyne or Angeli this year. The D has controlled our games and Hartman at best has been a game manager and in some games not that even.
He was the single biggest player in yesterdays game to attribute that loss to. What were Pynes’s stats for the Clemson game last year?
So we owe it to Sam to start him the next 3 games so he can audition for the NFL? Answer is no. You had you shot and then some and choked.
We need to know if Steve or Kenny have the alpha in them to lead us next year. We should be able to win both games while giving them both a chance to show us what they have. Can’t be any worse than the shit show Sam has treated us to.
Sam has amounted to a big tease to us delusional fans. Hope he banked some good NIL dough.
Rees is making less at Bama? Elko took less to go to A&M?
Which are you arguing?
Rees is making more money at Bama and Elko left after getting an even higher offer the moment ND matched the original. A&M wasn't messing around. ND wasn't cheap with these guys but they both left and made more. They matched what Elko was offered. He bolted anyway.
Rees left because he wanted to coach in the big time and win a natty. Same as Kelly.

You've moved the goal post. My initial post was arguing thar if ND insists a football coach cannot make more than the top paid professor, ND should play within that and pay their OC/DC *top dollar*, near what the HC gets. Bar none, top dollar, thus honoring the "less than professor" self limitation, but still getting the best offensive and defensive staff, while the HC is always at a bargain. This is a far cry from shopping at the "bargain bin" for assistants.
Clemson post game
My hunch is Parker doesn’t get demoted best I’m hoping for is a co-ocwww.irishenvy.com

Rees and Elko leaving and getting more money in doing so doesn't jive with that.
My entire point is that ND should pay the DC and OC *top dollar in the country* to counterbalance their self imposed rule.I literally quoted you saying that ND shops the bargain bin for assistants. Then I, and about 7 other posters, cited why you were wrong. After that you said ND "wasn't cheap with these guys," this completely contradicting your previous statement
I, on the hand, still maintain that ND has shown time and time again that they are willing to pay lots of money for assistants and haven't wavered from this point.
So, how is it that I have moved the goalposts? I would absolutely applaud your personal growth if you're able to internally reflect that your argument was wrong and are singing a new tune. However, short of that, it does seem that you're projecting onto me and have in fact shifted your goalposts to a new position. "I said this all encompassing and absolutist statement with no flexibility but I didn't mean that."
I have never heard that and I would be curious what "liberal professor" Notre Dame is paying more than it paid Tommy Rees or Marcus Freeman when they were our coordinators. If it's true that ND won't pay HC more than some liberal professor, then overpaying on assistants is the playbook. Me too. But it's been brought up through the years by some in the know that it's part of ND's internal commitment to not make football "bigger than academics".I have never heard that and I would be curious what "liberal professor" Notre Dame is paying more than it paid Tommy Rees or Marcus Freeman when they were our coordinators.
Point is that's not WHY he left. Which is what was claimed.Rees is making more money at Bama and Elko left after getting an even higher offer the moment ND matched the original. A&M wasn't messing around. ND wasn't cheap with these guys but they both left and made more.
Plot twist professor was secretly MAGA the whole time 🤯I have never heard that and I would be curious what "liberal professor" Notre Dame is paying more than it paid Tommy Rees or Marcus Freeman when they were our coordinators.
I just looked up their 990, which is public record, and has to list the highest paid employees. I'd link but you need a login (I read these all the time for work).Me too. But it's been brought up through the years by some in the know that it's part of ND's internal commitment to not make football "bigger than academics".
His point is not my point. My point is ND should have the top paid coordinators since they short the HC. Elko and Rees left and made more.Point is that's not WHY he left. Which is what was claimed.
I'm curious if this is true about the whole Academics over Athletics pay rumor as a Notre Dame policy. Supposedly Tommy made well over a million and Golden makes over 2. I'm not surprised that top admin and the endowment manager make more but no way any academic staff makes more. Anyone know what the deans make?I just looked up their 990, which is public record, and has to list the highest paid employees. I'd link but you need a login (I read these all the time for work).
In 2022, the most recent year available, it went like this:
A recently-retired provost named Tom Burish made $3.7M, most of it in one-time "other compensation" which is probably a retirement payout or something. He made $726K the year prior, that's probably more like his annual compensation.
After that:
Michael Donovan, the guy who manages the endowment: $3.1M
Kelly made just over $3M (assume he got paid through other, nonreported channels as well)
Brey: $2.9M
Swarbrick: $2.7M
Freeman: $2.3M (including the month he was hired as head coach. Clark Lea made $1.5M in 2021, fwiw.)
The COO of the university investment office made $1.7
Jenkins: $1.4M (what does he spend it on?)
So the people who run the money and the people who run the money-making parts of the athletic department. Which is probably as it should be.
Jenkins salary goes right to the CSC, he doesn’t keep it.I just looked up their 990, which is public record, and has to list the highest paid employees. I'd link but you need a login (I read these all the time for work).
