Let's all be very clear -- whatever you think of Freeman's shortcomings, if you simply swapped someone like Lewis for Parker ND is at worst 9-1 right now headed to 11-1. We are in hell because he was saddled with a total unqualified person to run the offense after Swarbrick/Jenkins made him take Rees as a "package deal" when he first got the job.

Year 1 - Didn't pick his OC, but at least had a smart/qualified person.
Year 2 - Had to scramble late for an OC, got stuck with a guy that wasn't even on his radar at the start of the process.

You would think that the administration would do more to help out a young, defensive minded HC than foisting a rudderless clown on him.
True,

But he also CHOSE Ludwig. Obviously we know what happened there.

Rees screwed him with leaving so late, but let’s not forget. He could of had Lewis and Klein. He could have had both. That’s a fact. But he didn’t like the style with Lewis apparently and Klein didn’t hit it off with the QBs.

Once you told them cats no, you can’t circle back.

I didn't know Lewis was an option. Were there rumors he was going to leave Colorado before he even started?

I go back and forth because I don’t know how much responsibility AND discretion should be given to a first time head coach regarding the coordinator hires. Half of me thinks the administration should handle it all to put him in the best position, the other half thinks he should be allowed to make the calls as he forms his identity as a coach and the program’s identity with him at the helm.
Right now, I sure would like Bevacqua to make a big time move for an established guy. If Freeman wants that too, great. But that’s what I think gets this program in true contention next season

He might take his demotion to heart.
(wait, I thought you meant for next year - but you meant for 23)

Ok but is the problem the WRs? Or the scheme? Cuz the WRs sucked last year too but were open all the time… they just couldn’t catch.

I’m honestly asking that, I don’t know enough about football to diagnose what is causing the issues.
Every pass is an out to the sideline. Nothing over the middle or a dump to the back. Go deep once in a while to keep the DB’s honest. It’s like Parker is afraid to make a mistake.

There's nothing good about the offense except the RBs, Deland, and Alt. It's hard to be consistently good when you have so many weaknesses

I'd include Mitch too but obviously he's not available

Even after Ludwig fell through, Loy reported that Lewis really wanted the position and was still interested but Freeman deemed his offense not a fit.
In Which...Makes Freeman a Liability.

Mainly the scheme. Very little creativity in route design. Little pre-snap motion. Basic runs. Play-calling is obvious. Tendencies aren’t varied.

Defenses can easily dissect any play. Secondaries are sitting on intermediate throws. Nobody is scared of the deep ball or play action. Defenses have been simple because they can be. They don’t fear the offense.

It’s felt that most of the big plays this year have taken Herculean efforts. MF has to move on from GP this offseason if ND has any chance at the CFP next year.

Yeah god forbid they lose a game they were favored by.... 2.5 points... on the road. The horror.

Plenty of people knew this would be a tough one. Vegas knew. It wasn't a secret.

ND will go 9-3, play for Pop Tarts, and use the bowl practices to develop WRs. Then they will win a bowl game and everyone will be enthusiastic about the WRs until they play the next team with good athleticism next fall. The only way out is a stud transfer/NIL lure.
So you’re guaranteeing 10-3? Yeah, I don’t see that after today. This offense couldn’t score in a women’s prison w/ a fistful of pardons.

What’s absolutely bonkers is this team wouldn’t be set to make the playoff even in the new format.

I would like the administration to look at this for what it is. Freeman isn't the guy. Good recruiter? Maybe - but he makes bad decisions and loses games he shouldn't.

Rees was absolute dog shit. When he left, Freeman essentially chooses someone who will do what Rees did - just a little bit worse. Don't give me the buyout. Freeman cowered after that and ran to the first person he could find.

Why wait three seasons to know Freeman doesn't have what it takes? Time for a splash hire. Not a hire they backed into.
Wait a minute. BK lost too many games to count that he shouldn’t have. Whether it was year one or 2021, there’s a long list. And he had how many years of HC experience? GTFOH

“Rees was absolute dog shit”? Are you watching the Bama/LSU game right now? He‘s matching LSU blow for blow despite having a run first QB who struggles w/ the pass. Did you watch last season when Rees took Arizona State’s current 3rd string QB and cobbled together a 9 win season? He ain’t perfect…but dog shit? He’ll likely be in the NFL in a few years.

You want to fire MF now? Who you gonna get? Better question who did you pine for after BK left?

The silver lining to this is we won’t have to watch ND get their backs blown out in a NY6 bowl 🫠
no ND needs to get that monkey off their back. 1993 (1994 bowl win) was before most of you were born. They should’ve won the Fiesta after BK bailed but Mike Elston pissed down his leg. Today, w/ all the opt outs; ND would absolutely have a shot at winning. Alas, wait until next year.

How much more redundant can ya get... Their players try to hurt our players. It was like bounty gate all over again.

Did ya see that?
I did not see that. Not saying it did or didn't happen, but also not sure the connection?

I probably should have posted that in italics. I completely agree but this current team is not capable of accomplishing that.

Yeah there is no real debate. Reese will have a long career as an oc maybe short term hc then back to oc. Bet few fcs schools would hire Jared Fogle Parker for OC. Parker probably never an OC again

I’ve been waiting all season for us to hit Price or Love on some swings and wheel routes. And we should play action a LOT more than we do.
On our second to last drive when Sam airmailed three balls downfield I think it was 3rd down one of our RBs ran a wheel route out to the left and they were WIDE OPEN. No one even remotely close to them. Naturally Hartman didn’t even look that way.

You would think that if they actually were serious about their program. Notre Dame is not. We all know that.

Sure, they would like ro win to a degree. They like the money it brings in. But they don't really see it as an important part of the University.

They treat it like a run of the mill power 5 school would treat it instead of it being, say, like it was one of the three pillars of the University.

Great. We all see what we want. In the thick of concussion gate, the lower body injuries didn't happen. Wonder why...? -No wonder.
